Calzaghe's win against Hopkins looks great now i agree, he's went on to school a few top prospects.

Look at Calzaghe to Lacy, it doesn't go by physical condition solely, John McDermott looks like he's just finished a shift eating McDonalds, but could go 12 hard rounds

No losing to crud like Rahman, mccall...getting decked off Akinwande, wobbled off Briggs....lucky against Mercer and no defining fight..
His win over Hoppo has turned into a quality win added to it the win over Lacy and 10 yrs unbeaten...
Coming back and sparking both Rahman, McCall, outclassing Holyfield twice, Golota, Briggs, destroying Tyson, weren't the Holyfield fights defining? mmmmm. Dunno who Hoppo is but the Hopkins win was a close but good one for Joe, Kessler was good and Lacy

He was better when he was heavy...Day v....
Was heavier with Steward than with Correa and was better for it...
His off nights were when he was wide open like he was against Bruno, mccall........Steward tightened him up.

Don't need to watched both fights battered him twice, beat everyone of your boys that's probably why you don't like the guy.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Outclassing......you should read what it means..

came in heavy and unconditioned against Rahman, also against Vitali, which although a good win, could argue he wasnt really in shape for.
No argument he was far superiour with Steward than Correa though

Terrible, terrible shame.....I lost my Sister to an overdose.
28 years young and talented......Alcohol and drugs don't discriminate should you have a weakness for them it doesn't matter if you are educated, non-educated, rich, poor...
She was her own worst enemy like my Sister..misunderstood rather than bad... a tragic loss to her family and friends and a complete and utter tragic waste of life..
Really sorry......

He sparked Rahman but he didn't spark McCall, couldn't even put a dent in him even though he was defenceless

The second fight was far closer than the first, only a couple of rounds in it

Lost me, but yeah Lewis was miles better than Holyfield and proved it twice, best heavyweight of the past 25 years hands down, would of beat Foreman, etc as well.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Terrible, terrible shame.....I lost my Sister to an overdose.

Re: What is with these guys???
I think he won the first fight fairly comfortably but wouldn't say he outclassed him, the Vitali fight isn't relevant here Truss and you know it, it was 6 rounds and considering he won it's fairly impossible to have been outclassed over that distance.
I'm not going by the official scorecards i'm going by how I scored the fights
Fight 1: Lewis 117:111
Fight 2: Lewis 115-113

Very apt given the subject of wasted talent. Still, irrespective of what people thought of her OUTSIDE of the music and the bad choices she made, it's a sad loss. No doubt the vultures will be circling as we speakThe Galveston Giant wrote:For anyone interested Amy Winehouse had died of a suspected overdose.

No way did he lose the second fight, think the fact it was closer than the first one does cloud judgement on it, the scorecards made no sense for the fights as a pair

Thought Lewis was a clear winner v Holyfield first time round. Says plenty when even the American press thought Lewis got screwed

The scoring was all over the place, not been able to gain the fights on file so will need to look out the old videos to make a better judgement, but i believe Lewis was a clearer winner in the first fight.

Meant to say agree he wasn't outclassed......
Had Lewis a clear winner in the first fight..
Surprised he didn't commit more in both fights though!!

I never got that either, not too sure what he had to worry about and should have pressed for the stoppage, seemed to respect Holyfield a bit too much

Re: What is with these guys???
The Briggs performance combined with that is what confuses me, Briggs was a big puncher with a good reputation who at that stage posed a bigger threat than Holyfield because of it, in one of his more aggressive moods just like the Grant fight he steps it up and takes his man out with ease.

Oh if only Lewis had put his foot on the gas we might not be enduring the sad spectacle of Evander still lacing em up

Re: What is with these guys???
I've only got a few minutes left Ghosty before I have to go out....
But I'll give you my honest take on Lewis.....
I thought he was a great heavyweight 10-15 in the alltime list.......slightly above Bowe but below Holy...
I thought he was lucky in his timing but that with Steward's help earlier would have been greater and top 10....
Loses to Bowe with Correa...wins against Steward ...........
Struggles with peak Tyson because of Mike's handspeed but might have had Evander's number like Bowe had.....
Thought he retired because he thought he'd lose the rematch to Vitali...
But he'd beat Vlad and Vitali...in his prime!!!!
Think Hagler, Duran were both overrated.....too

Re: What is with these guys???
Top 5 heavyweight for me, has a better record against his rivals than Holyfield does, think he was unlucky with his timing, had the beating of Bowe, Holyfield and Tyson from the word go but was too high a risk for little reward so was shamelessly avoided until he had it all to lose rather than his opposition.
Also think he takes Vitali more seriously in a rematch and outclasses him on the way to a 7/8th round stoppage, would love to have seen him in with Wlad who would stand next to no chance of getting anything from the fight

Re: What is with these guys???
Top 5.......That's high.....
Hard call isn't it...Better career than Larry or George ???
Dempsey ludicrously high in most lists.....
Interesting call there is a case.. but I think others may have stronger ones.
Like the Rock of being higher.

Re: What is with these guys???
Varies from day to day with Foreman being the hardest to judge of all, his wins over Frazier and Norton are unequalled but does ludicrously lack top level longevity
Ali
Louis
Holmes
Foreman
Lewis
Demspey
With the places from 3-6 changing depending on my mood

Re: What is with these guys???
Oh I se you have them guys above Lewis...
You're a bit like me you give more credit to the modern fighter than most on here..
However I have Johnson 3 on my list....and the Rock top 6....
Frazier top 10 and Holy sometimes depending on what mood i'm in...
Also have jeffrie there beating Fitz (2) corbett (2) and Sharkey.....
But still you have a case...........was a great champ but I think at a good time for him...
Bowe certainly would've catapulted him in..not that it was his fault..

Re: What is with these guys???
Generally I do favour the old time fighters i'll admit but Lewis' has a very under rated title reign, most of his opposition were a darn sight better than anything either of the brothers have fought
Jeffries, Marciano, Johnson, Frazier and Liston are battling it out for the final 4 places with Holyfield and Tyson behind them

Corbett was lucky against Jackson who was thrown from a horse and carriage the week before the fight and then refused him a rematch after years of prevarication between the two.
Corbett at 2!!!! Pah!!!!

Always thought Witherspoon coulda been better if he wasn't so fleshy around the waist but Del Boy makes the Spoon look like a salad munching fitness freak by comparison.
261 at 6ft 1 is a disgrace, he deserved to lose. Fury wanted the titles, Chisora wanted the dough to eat more pastry!
