Dave Warner for Australia?
First topic message reminder :
Dave Warner is currently enjoying a very fruitful tour of Zimbabwe. He has scored 132 in the A team final vs South Africa A. He then scored a brilliant 164 vs a Zim XI in a 2 day game, which was unfortunately not a 1st class game. He then scored a brilliant 48 and 82 in the 1st A team 'Test'. Then today he scored a brilliant 211 vs a Zim side whom will be playing Bangladesh and New Zealand in Tests soon.
With the Australian middle order pretty weak at present, Watson could slip in at 3/4 and Warner could open up with his buddy Hughes, Warner could give Australia those lighting starts, which have been missing since Hayden retired.

thats not a particuarly fair comment is it relle....
i no a lot about cricket, and am passionate about the game.... its my opinon, and on what i have seen, i dont warner has the temperament to play test cricket, i might be wrong, but i can only say on what i have seen :/
I agree with you cricketfan, Warner is nothing more than a hyped up T20 player, in tests he won't have a good time of it, bit of a difference between a few pie chuckers from Zimbabwe and world class bowlers you get in test matches.
i wouldnt go that far, i just dont think he is READY for test cricket

He has scored like 700 first class runs, he hasn't even proven him self at first class cricket yet never mind tests.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Watson is from Queensland...Ipswich. He's played for Tassie, Qld and now NSW. Then there's Mitchell Johnson (Townsville). Ryan Harris born in Sydney but playing for Qld. Hauritz is also a Q'lander....hence he is playing for them in BBL.

Me too. That's the plan I'm hoping they're working towards. One tour at a time.
(What about today? I never would have guessed. Still a long way to go...)

It's always a huge job for any Aussie skipper. We say it's the 2nd most important job in Oz after PM. He sure has his work cut out for him, I agree.
If India had batted this morning...could have been in a similar situation. Jimmy will bowl well at his home ground...Swanny too!

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
if mitchell johnson fails in sri lanka surely his place will be hugely under pressure?

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Certainly not, he's the Golden Boy, he can do no wrong - even though he has cost us the Ashes twice.cricketfan90 wrote:if mitchell johnson fails in sri lanka surely his place will be hugely under pressure?

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
If Lanka prepare spin friendly tracks and play Mendis/Randiv and Herath, then Australians will have a tough time out there.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
I expect Hughes to get a few runs, there is not a single quality pacer in Lankan ranks. They have to somehow convince the Slinger to come out of test retirement. Just doesn't see that happening though.

if hughes cant score runs on the flat pitches in sri lanka then should retire....

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Sure pal, his 1st class record is World Class and he's only 22. He'll score 10,000+ Test runs.cricketfan90 wrote:if hughes cant score runs on the flat pitches in sri lanka then should retire....

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
No his original position was 5, but last season he batted at 3 - as there where rumours that he could replace Punter at 3 (which where partly true, but due to Punter's broken hand).cricketfan90 wrote:i thought khwajla opened in state cricket
For NSW, Hughes opens every time. Then the other opener could be Warner, Maddinson, Jaques and in the coming season Katich as well.

Yes, but he has hardly played for them though, due to his representative commitments.

CF
Doherty is in the odi squad.
for the tests they have picked beer and nathan lyon.lyon has impressed me whenever i have seen him bowl in the Big Bash although admittedly its a different format.i think he will be a quality spinner for aus in all 3 formats.the only thing is aus selectors must pick him in the xi and give him a long run rather than chopping and changing.

Might sound ever more biased for my beloved NSW, but Stephen O'Keefe should be the Test spinner. He's the only spinner who averages under 30 in 1st class cricket, a rather decent 52 wickets @ 24!!!

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
i think now punter has given up the captaincy, the aussies starting again and have dropped down the rankings, have nothing to lose and will probably play with freedom and start winning games again
until the ashes :P

Australia has a better record v SL than England has with Malinga playing... in all forms including T20. They should be competitive again.

surely you have to admit that ponting needs runs or he will go

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Warner doing well in the T20 against Sri Lanka. Rest of the Aussie batting not up to much - look as tho they will finish well short of Sri Lanka's total of 198.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Hardly, T20 is a game of luck, and Dilshan smoking a ton pushed the game away from us. Some strange captaincy that O'Keefe and Smith only bowling 6 of 8 overs.cricketfan90 wrote:the aussies off to an awful start to their tour of sri lanka.
We'll be more game in the ODIs and Tests.

NO. SL would smash them in ODIs
Tests would be more competitive.

How long have we been No.1 in ODIs? Seems like forever. I think once they get warmed up they'll do OK but it's early days yet.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
its gonna be tough for aussies when they have to force the rate in spinning conditions in sri lanka, they struggled in the t20 with the spin.
