Dave Warner for Australia?
First topic message reminder :
Dave Warner is currently enjoying a very fruitful tour of Zimbabwe. He has scored 132 in the A team final vs South Africa A. He then scored a brilliant 164 vs a Zim XI in a 2 day game, which was unfortunately not a 1st class game. He then scored a brilliant 48 and 82 in the 1st A team 'Test'. Then today he scored a brilliant 211 vs a Zim side whom will be playing Bangladesh and New Zealand in Tests soon.
With the Australian middle order pretty weak at present, Watson could slip in at 3/4 and Warner could open up with his buddy Hughes, Warner could give Australia those lighting starts, which have been missing since Hayden retired.

Thats precisely why I think they will struggle.cricketfan90 wrote:its gonna be tough for aussies when they have to force the rate in spinning conditions in sri lanka, they struggled in the t20 with the spin.

I think that more pitches around the world should not just be flat, they should turn

He's not a huge turner of the ball though.
England have a poorer record against spin in Sri Lanka though... in Tests, ODIs and would also struggle if they had played T20 there.

Swann is a pretty big turner of the ball when conditions suit, he always puts a crazy amount of revs on it.

Malinga is almost impossible to play... especially at home.
We have a good Test record in SL (10:5-1-4) but in ODIs SL have a slight edge.

'When conditions suit' - he has struggled in the sub-continent though.

What... are you mad?
Of course he's great for England but I'd rather we find our own new star - it could be a long wait though... but we'll unearth somebody... eventually.
Just looking at SKW's figures - 43.11 in India, 21.45 in SL.

He's very unlucky and was badly treated CF. We could have used him last year as well with all his experience. He must have rubbed somebody (selector?) up the wrong way or was simply considered too old - but I agree with you there.

He did have some injury/fitness issues... but then came back to play for the State for a while and did OK from memory. Not enough apparently.

Did you see how Warner got out? Freakish catch.
That was the start of the collapse. SL gained so much confidence from that dismissal, whilst Australia lost the plot.

Wouldn't mind seeing that catch if anyone has a link. Sounded brilliant.
Seemed like Mendis had the Australians in all sorts of knots.

For those that didn't see (coverage was on Eurosport).

My one question is whether this shoud go in the scorebook as caught Jayawardene (as I think was officially recorded) or caught Matthews, because he had clearly established control of the ball before leaving the field of play (hence being able to throw the ball in its intended direction).

Cheers for the link dh. Not as spectacular as I though (I blame cricinfo comm for that) although still very impressive. Kudos to Matthews for that.
Any comment on how Mendis seemed to have the Aussies completely bamboozled?

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
It's a really smart bit of fielding, especially when seen at full pace, but no it isn't as spectacular as the one from the T20 world cup where the fielder tipped the ball up, ran off the field, jumped and deflected it back into play before taking a clean catch (I note the rules have now been changed so that this would no longer be allowed, as the fileder was out of play during the second phase of the catch).
