Dave Warner for Australia?
First topic message reminder :
Dave Warner is currently enjoying a very fruitful tour of Zimbabwe. He has scored 132 in the A team final vs South Africa A. He then scored a brilliant 164 vs a Zim XI in a 2 day game, which was unfortunately not a 1st class game. He then scored a brilliant 48 and 82 in the 1st A team 'Test'. Then today he scored a brilliant 211 vs a Zim side whom will be playing Bangladesh and New Zealand in Tests soon.
With the Australian middle order pretty weak at present, Watson could slip in at 3/4 and Warner could open up with his buddy Hughes, Warner could give Australia those lighting starts, which have been missing since Hayden retired.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
He's a long term prospect. IMO he's not as good as Hauritz (the best spinner we got), but he could become a very good player. He needs to tighten up his batting technique and learn to spin the leg break more. In the long run he could become a fantastic player, batting at 6 and being the vital 5th bowler.cricketfan90 wrote:what about steve smith?

That maybe the case, as guys like McGrath, Warne, Gilchrist are once in a generation cricketers.
More importantly the number 1 ranking won't be dominated like it was with West Indies and Australia, as none of the current sides have great all round attacks.

He claimed that Sehwag has helped him, must have helped him clear his mind, as he used to get bogged down and then get out going for a dirty slog.cricketfan90 wrote:no doubt warner has been helped by the ipl

He's obese and can't run more than a single at any stage.
Sure he's a fans favourite, but he needs to diet.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
he is a very talented batsman, so he needs to lose some weight, he hits the ball harder than anyone, and consistnetly churns out runs..

That's true about current all round attacks - India and England are also very thin in that department. Australia will be back to it's usual No.1 position within the next couple of years with some seriously talented youngsters in the wings. To say 'i dont think the aussies will be as strong as they ever were again' is probably the most ill-informed comment I've ever read on this site...but then again 'passion' does not equal knowledge - so we could excuse you for saying that.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
i think nathan bracken was harshly treated towards the end of his career. he had 174 odi wickets, 6th highetst for australia in odi cricket, and they didnt seem to wanna stick with him

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
He had that knee injury though and was out for a long while. Also Mrs Bracken might have discouraged him

Khawaja, MJ, Hughes, Copeland, Punter are also not gonna play IPL.
Test squad for SL announced today, did you see it?
Hilfy, Bollinger, Smith not selected. Nathan Lyon (SA offie) is the surprise selection but he did do well in that recent triangular tournament in Zimbabwe and has been prominent in domestic cricket here.

Line up will be:
Hughes
Watson
Ponting
Khawaja
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Siddle
Copeland/Pattinson
Beer
We won't play two spinners, as neither are stand out. Pace is all ways the weapon of choice in the sub continent for us Aussies.
Hughes has been confirmed to play as well, Marsh could bat a 6, with Pup and Huss moving up one and Khawaja omitted.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Also Hauritz had a second shoulder op, as the 1st failed and is hoping to be fit when India come down under, I'm hoping he's fit, as Beer wouldn't be causing the Indians too much trouble!!!

i think if ponting dosent perform in this series then it could be it for him

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Sorry I made an error in my side, Ryan Harris will certainly play, so Pattinson and Copeland will be there just for experience.
I'm sure Australian selectors will give Ponting the home summer against NZ and India before ditching him. Sri Lanka is a pretty tough place to go as it is.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Harris has been very consistent since getting into test side
i still think they will use two spinnner, cos otherwise they only have michael clarke and he dosent like bowling

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
Sri Lanka are poor vs pace, so we should stick to our strength. Sri Lanka will go after Beer and Lyons and it may damage their confidence.cricketfan90 wrote:Harris has been very consistent since getting into test side

Regarding Warner, Marsh and Khawaja can both open, should Hughes or Watson get crooked - so it was a fair call.

Have you read this cf?
Warner In The Frame
I was only toying with the idea above (in a year or two perhaps)...but the selectors are maybe further down the road than I thought!

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
warner could probably end up coming in for ponting, and he could bat 3..

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
The more I think about it he would be good in there, top 3.
There was another article where he admits he needs to play more 4 day matches... I'll dig it up. (No, it was just something about captaining grade side for one and a half years... so he believes he is up for it. Also - he batted for ages in the recent tour which impressed the selectors)

See the chain/link icon just above the 'quick reply' box, shanky?
Go to where you want to place the link, click the chain icon.
In the top box - paste your link
In the bottom box - you can add what you like. This will appear as the title to the link.

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
i think that ponting showed the frustaration of captaincy and his batting form got to him in the world cup, there a couple of exmaples.
1) steve smith went for a catch with him ,and didnt hear ponting's call, cos it was so loud in india and ponting's reaction was dissrepectful and un called for
2)Also when he broke the TV
i doubt he will be in the side for much longer anyway

i also dont think Hussey will be in the side much longer, as he is getting older and older, and i think they might start looking towards youth..

If not the best cricketfan. Watson will be there for a while yet if he keeps going the way he is.
It's Phil Hughes who would have to compete with someone like Warner.

hughes shouldnt be in the squad either, there are better players than him lol

Re: Dave Warner for Australia?
No there are not. Hughes gets harshly treated for getting 'sorted out' by the Poms. He has 2 Test hundreds and 16 1st class hundreds. He's still only 22 and his 1st class average is over 50. No other opener in Australian domestic cricket has a better record(Warner averages 55+ but he's hardly played)cricketfan90 wrote:hughes shouldnt be in the squad either, there are better players than him lol

i no a lot about cricket, and am passionate about the game.... its my opinon, and on what i have seen, i dont warner has the temperament to play test cricket, i might be wrong, but i can only say on what i have seen :/
I agree with you cricketfan, Warner is nothing more than a hyped up T20 player, in tests he won't have a good time of it, bit of a difference between a few pie chuckers from Zimbabwe and world class bowlers you get in test matches.
