Re: surrey vs gloucestershire county Championship division 2
Looks like we will be giving the '7 batsmen' idea another go, which is fine by me.
Looks like The Gaffer and one of Meaker or Arafat to miss out.
If I were to decide, I would include Meaker in the hope it will help him find his way back towards his early-season form.
Hope Harinath gets some runs this time, although Gloucestershire probably won't make it easy, they aren't reknowned for producing featherbeds. (Admitedly this is from experience at Bristol, not sure what to expect at Cheltenham).

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire county Championship division 2
Gloucs are a pretty good team in the CC, they have won two of their last 3 (including against us) and thumped Kent last time out. I agree that Meaker should be given another go, this season he has only had poor figures in 2 innings in the CC (discounting the 2 overs in the 2nd innings of the last match). He is most definitely a wicket taker so hopefully he can find his form again. If the pitch looks like spin won't help then maybe a left field choice could be Arafat in place of Batty but I expect an unchanged 11 having seen the squad.

Thier bowlers seem to be in form too.
In a CB40 game right now they have Essex (with Bopara, Shah, Ten Doeschate etc.) 75/7!
On the subject of CB40, Hampshire did us a little favour yesterday by sending Northants to their second straight defeat. Although increasingly Durham are emerging as our main competitors in the group.

Looks like they 'did a Surrey'...!
Essex got up to 195, with Wright at No.11 smashing a run-a-ball 42!!

This "doing a Surrey" thing seems to have turned into a runaway virus. I thought Lancashire out-Surreyed Surrey in the Roses match last week

Anyone backing Chris Dent for a century?
A first-class high score of 98 makes me think he'll do it today!

Keep it up Tibor!
I suppose Arafat was always going to come back in for either Meaker or Dernbach, Meaker was the unlucky one I suppose - I would've picked Clive instead of Dernbach meself!
Quite glad Ansari is playing although it is a bit harsh to judge Harinath on the Midlesex game.................43-2 right let's roll these over for under 200

Why is it that everytime I hear 'drop' on the commentary, I hear 'Maynard' in the same sentence!?
Admitedly the most recent example may have been a tough one, but a certain Welshman really could do with some serious practice...

Arafat apparently probing away 'like a good surgeon' Churchy says - a possible nickname?
Although I'm not sure 'probing' is good surgical practice!
'The Surgeon' gets Gidman, A. with some good pressure bowling.

On a serious note, the Gaffer has been off the field for some time with what is reported to be a finger injury.
Haven't check Comms in a while, but if he's still off it is a worry. (An optimist might say that at least he won't open, but I'm no optimist!).
And continuing with the medical references, perhaps it might be time to turn to a 'spin doctor'!

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire county Championship division 2
Shall we have a sweep on the Gloucs 1st inns score?
They were 117-5, just before tea they're now 161-5
I was hoping for around 200, but I can see their (like everyone else who play) tail about to vigorously wag, so I'm going for 350!

Churchy mentioned that someone had recently emailed/tweeted him saying the same. Churchy's response was ''stranger things have happened''.
The Viscount now has 51 wickets for us in all first XI competitions this season (41 in the CC and 10 in the one dayers).
A tremendous achievement, particularly for someone generally regarded as just a useful squad member back in April.
As the Corporal would say, the Viscount takes the biscuit!

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire county Championship division 2
Decentish day for us in the end, I reckon.
To pick up a theme expressed before by Carrot, irritating that their last five wickets put on 50 more runs than their first five. Nonetheless, we still got them all out for less than 300. All ten wickets falling to catches (not you Tibor! ) even with, according to Churchy, a couple of drops.
It must be good for Arafat's confidence for him to pick up a fifer - can he go on and tranform things in the last two months of the season? Excellent also to see the Viscount's fine form continue as flagged in an earlier post.
I'm surpised the Brain got as many overs today as he did - mainly basing that comment on the end of play scorecard. Guess he filled in as well for the Gaffer who, I gather, was off much of the day with a bruised hand.
A small bit of to Hyphen and Davies for safely batting the last 3 overs of the day out. Particularly Davies who faced 15 of the 18 balls! Davies said at a members' forum earlier in the season that he didn't like opening in the CC due to the mentally and physically tiring demands of keeping. Hmm, looks like he's stuck with it for at least a little while ....
