A quick word of thanks to Coughtrie for dropping Ramps on 4 (bet Jon Batty wouldn't have done that )

Looking more feasible now. How pleasant to be wrong!
First 10 overs with the new ball have gone at a run at a ball, too.
Oh Surrey, how did I ever doubt you???

and thats stumps 392 for 8 shame ramps got out with only 2 overs left but i think we would have all taken him getting 141 before the game started. also arafat excellent now with the bat as well as the ball lets hope this is the turning point for him and of cause not to forget the brain going past 1,000 runs what a excellent signing he has been. so a 106 lead first target tomorrow get those 8 runs and get the full bonus points from this game you never know just how much they might count in the end.

A good summing up, JimBob.
We're clearly on top although it could have been even better. Several pluses so far but disappointed by four of the top six settling in and then getting out without a meaningful score.

Re Ramps and Coughtrie, ChrisfromStroud says that Alex Gidman says:
"We all drop catches as professional cricketers and it is part and parcel of the game."
CfS also says that Alex Gidman also says:
"Ramprakash and Marcus Trescothick are the two batsmen in county cricket, pretty much in a different league from the rest. Apart from that one error, Ramprakash played a risk-free innings that was a model for any young player because he went at his own pace and never looked in any trouble. He has been doing that for years and is deservedly held in high esteem."
CfS also wishes that Ramps gets a big fat zero in the Surrey 2nd innings.
Cfs also wishes the game gets as far as the Surrey 2nd innings...

Perverse game cricket....
Arafat looked dire most of the season and now suddenly delivers with both bat and ball. I can't remember which of us Surrey posters said basically that we never wanted to see him play again.... So, some credit to Adams for playing him instead of Meaker who seems to have gone off the boil...
Ramps - incredible! I guess these performance will be less frequent now - but even so..... Well done too to the Brain.....
Pity about Roy and Ansari and various others who didn't press on to a big score.
Many a match has been won from first inning deficit of more than 100...

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire county Championship division 2
So a very decent day in the end, fantastic for Ramps to get his form back - not that I ever doubted he would! Also great to see another great performance from Arafat with the bat this time, I admit that I was one who said I wouldn't be bothered if he didn't play for us again so to see him come out with an effort like this is great.
As for Roy, I'm much happier with him coming in at 6/7 and playing his natural game than opening. He can be a superb counter attacker but has also proved in the CB40 that he can play a more conrtrolled measured innings if the situation requires. He's only 20 and has only played about 10 FC matches so I don't think it's time to worry just yet!
cricketfan - I don't think we do, if anything we need openers but we have 3 young inexperienced batsmen in our 6 so inevitably they will sometimes fail but they are all very talented and Maynard and Hyphen have reasonable figures this year despite RHB being a makeshift opener all season.

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire county Championship division 2
Last three wickets put on 160 runs. Seems to be increasingly common in county cricket these days for the last five wickets to make their presence felt. Well do I remember watching Glos at something like 54-5 chasing 160, before the dastardly Gidman and Coughtrie spoilt it all. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself (though the 54-5 bit would be nice).

someone in the james vince kind of mould... i no that sounds stupid, but i think they need a genuine batsman, someone else who can just think about their batting and not worry about having to bowl...

Hi chaps,
Quickly logging in.
Looking good. Full bonus points. A very decent lead. And an early wicket for the Viscount (42 in the CC this season and counting).
Will things be so good when I return around tea?

Disappointing to only get 1 wicket before lunch but hopefully Yasir and Viscount can pick up a couple after the break.

or perhaps your question was rhetorical?
p.s. bit cheeky calling him "young" dernbach if you're really the age you claim on your profile

We should be able to chase anything under 250 with relative ease so they still have a long way to go. However I would like to think we can keep them to under 300 and leave ourselves needing under 200 to win, depends how the bowlers do though.

Chris to put a 'Dent' in our hopes by beating his highest score of 98? More than likely I would say given our form in the matter.

Nice to see young Dernbach (I'm 46, so I can say that) showing his tactical insights on twitter http://twitter.com/#!/Jwd_16/status/96946476252540928 Captaincy potential, for sure.

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire county Championship division 2
Reports on Twitter that Jon Lewis is joining Surrey at the end of the season. Possibly a strange signing if true as we have plenty of young talented bowlers here. Then again he would be a good non overseas replacement for Arafat and has plenty of experience which may help us finish teams off for a change!
In other news it's now 113/2 and raining. At least they're still behind but we do need a couple of wickets sharpish.

That Lewis signing makes no sense whatsoever. I'm sure he's half decent but it's a quality spinner we are crying out for.
Hang on, scrub that - Zaffar could be our answer!!

I'm with Carrotdude on this: seems like Lewis is a like-for-like replacement for Arafat, but freeing up the overseas spot. Rightly on wrongly, Adams wants one senior seamer in the team, especially for the matches where Tremlett is unavailable. Lewis's age is actually the reason why Meaker and Dunn should not be too peed off: it's just sending them a message that they're not ready to lead the attack yet, but they can earn their stripes over the next two years, knowing that Lewis is unlikely to have his contract extended past 2013.

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire county Championship division 2
One thought about the Lewis signing, I think it's the experience he brings as to why we have gone for him. Our current pace bowlers (minus Tremlett and Arafat)
Linley - 28 FC matches
Dernbach - 62 FC matches
Meaker - 24 FC matches
Dunn - 4 FC matches
Jon Lewis has played 222 FC matches.

Good policework, dude! Though Dernbach's 62 is the equivalent of almost 4 full seasons, so he ought to be in a position to lead now or soon.
