Some interesting and, IMO, puzzling selections.
Taylor as Captain shows how much the selectors rate him, and rightly so.
Has Borthwick moved ahead of Rashid in the leg-spinner stakes?
Jack Brooks' inclusion.
Steve Finn and Chris Woakes in the one-day squad, Jade Dernbach in the four-day?
Good to see Hales and Stokes called up.

But they already know everything about him that they need to know.

Bopara only made 25 in the Lions second innings and Taylor is currently 57*. Personally I think Trott will be fit for the Test match next week but if he isn't it would be interesting to see if the selectors still pick Bopara. I hope they don't.

Bairstow with his 2nd 50 in the match, following Taylor. Bopara's Test days may well be over.

unfortunately ravi might have to focus on limited overs cricket..

Seems more like the Meaker we had at the start of the season, take a wicket or 2 at the top of the order and then come in and blow the last couple away at the end. Hopefully he and Dernbach will get a couple more in the 2nd innings.

Looks like Bairstow impressed again getting 109*, Taylor just missed out on a century getting 98.

...However bowling 8 overs for 42 is more like the Meaker we have seen in the last couple of matches for Surrey!

Bairstow made 103* and Taylor was unfortunately dismissed for 98 as the game petered out into a tame draw.

looks like it out of taylor and bairstow for the place if trotty aint fit.

No way they'll pick Bairstow, they definitely like him but despite Bopara's failings he is still way ahead in the pecking order, the fact that he has played international cricket before will also help his cause. If Trott isn't fit I hope they go for Taylor (I have a sneaky feeling that they will).

was woakes in any of the lions squads?

Woakes is in the One-Day squad

Alex Hales got 78 off 51 in the T20 - good form for the one-dayers!

i wonder how long steve davies will have to keep scoring runs before he is noticed

Well he won't get near the main team atm, Prior won't be budged for tests and Kieswetter will get a run in the odi side now, and Bairstow's performance in the lions game i imagine will keep him there for a bit

bairstow looks a fantastic talent

After being completely hammered in the 2nd match of the unofficial ODI series, the Lions are going well today - 282/9 off their 50 with Taylor getting his 2nd hundred in 3 matches and Stokes with a quick 73.

Woakes and Harris have both taken an early wicket to leave SL A 7/2.

i think taylor will play test cricket by the end of next year and bairstow will be in the one day squad purely as a batsman

At the end of this year Bairstow might have to do with playing T20 only for England but in the future he will play in all 3 formats maybe even as a specialist batsman.

i cant believe the selectors put boyd rankin in the lions squads!

he was there coz finn is with the england squad.
rankin was merely making up the numbers.

so there are plenty of other bowlers that could have took his place!

Like Jack Brooks for instance, deserves his place far more than Rankin.

I wouldnt have picked Rankin.
I would have given Reece Topley or Brooks a go.
