When's the next meet-up?
If there's no date already agreed, may I suggest one after 22nd September? That's the date the dogs will be joining Mrs Mercurio in Switzerland meaning I've got no more ties to home.

Merc:
I'm up for a meet Just been checking out www.empiregolf.co.uk. There are Open comps in Southern England but by the time we reach end Sep/Oct they are predominantly Team events. Was that what you were looking for, or a more informal 606 meet, play, get completely w@nkered sort of thing?

Works for me Davie. I'm ruddy well travelling down the night before and staying over after the golf too. No more of these macho 8 hour round trips for me with a single round of golf thrown in. I say we go for 72 holes in 2 days and get completely bladdered imbetween

Re: When's the next meet-up?
Something M3/M4 corridor with decent course(s), decent accommodation and a good play-ground in which to misbehave and have a half-decent Ruby are definite pre-requisites imho. If you organise it yourself; more effort, but more flexibility, if you arrange it around an Open event, less to organise on the day, BUT a bit more rigid and formal and possibly not such a good larf....
If people want to bring the 'Ball n Chain' that could work (although some will inevitably wimp out on the nightime festivities unless your partner is ladette material methinks), which means more opportunity for me

I'm still up for it - though if it is M3/M4 corridor I wouldn't require overnight stay (and I don't eat curry though a few beers would be compulsory)

I can if the situation demands it. What about D4S and all the South East boys, bound to be up for something? Failing that Merc, Plan 'B' would be check out www.empiregolf.co.uk, see what team comps there are in half decent places and enter thee and me as a team. We then don't have to worry about organising anything, just play golf and go on the p1ss after and if anyone else wants to get their own team they can do. I'm off 17 and contributed to both the recent wins in the club matches I played in, so am well up for some team stableford type event. PM me if you want to discuss in more detail

I'm up for 'defending my title' but my missus is due to give birth to our first baby in the next few weeks, so I can't really commit to anything at the moment.

Re: When's the next meet-up?
Depending on date I may be able to partake in the festivities. I am lining a 36 holer up at Liphook on 24th Sept, D4S previously recommended it last year but ongoing matchplay commitments scuppered it then. It is for over 35s only but also 8 & under hcps. May be able to get the Friday (23rd) off and play somewhere nearby. Do any of the rest of you have Counties Cards?

Yeah I'm up for something but got a few commitments coming up. Can't do 1st week in Sept (Tassie) or first 2 weeks in Oct (Myrtle Beach) and will be playing Liphook as well (JAS, the Deerhunter will be there as well )
Apart from that, just tell me where and when

I'd have no problem doing any of the Opens but I'm not free until after the middle of the September and it looks like they've all stopped by then. If you can find one for the end of September or October, I'll be up for it.

Re: When's the next meet-up?
Merc, you have to look right down the list for each region on empire golf. Most of the singles Opens will be over by September, but I did notice quite a few team comps (2, 3 or 4 players) at various venues in late September, right into October. Would be a good laugh to enter Team606 in one of these events. We've got a fair mix of handicaps (based on those who have responded) so it's just a case of finding something suitable in terms of venue and dates. Also the team events are really reasonable in terms of entry fees. If we made it over two days we could have a comp on one day and a bounce game like we did at Old Fold Manor on the other day. Chuck a few beers and a decent Ruby in for good measure and you've got the makings of an enjoyable couple of days I reckon

Re: When's the next meet-up?
Right Merc and anyone else interested. I've done a bit of delving around on empiregolf and come up with the following potentials. I hasten to point out that I have never played any of the following courses so have no idea as to their suitability. Anyway here goes:
SOMERSET:
Isle of Wedmore Individual Stableford - Sun 25th Sept entry fee £16.00
DEVON:
Bigbury GC - 4 Ball Team event - Sun 25th Sept entry fee £96.00 per team
CORNWALL:
Bude & North Cornwall GC - 3BBB - best 2 scores Sun 2nd Oct entry fee £45.00 per team
Launceston GC - 4 man team - best 2 scores Fri 7th Oct - £56.00 per team
Trevose Golf & Country Club - 36 hole individual medal Sun 9th Oct entry fee £25.00
If anyone is interested and can make any of these dates then let Merc or me know

Weekend of 24/25th Sept is the Liphook scratch open weekend then I'm away on holiday first two weeks of October.

They do not appear to qualify under the "A3/M3/M4/M25 (S&W)" remit I gave above, so they're not ideal.
I think this is moving us towards doing our 'own' event.

Re: When's the next meet-up?
If we want to do a south and west meet then maybe we should be looking at somewhere around Swindon area? Easy access along the M4 for anyone travelling from the east or west, close enough to tempt the London based boys to come along as well.
If we talk nicely to JAS, he might be able to swing us a deal at one of the clubs in the area as that's his stomping ground.

Or how about we just get a 4ball together to play at Mannings Heath, nr Horsham, where you won't have to pay for the golf so you can spend that money on beer instead?

We could make it 36 holes.
18 in the morning on the Kingfisher Course, 18 in the afternoon on the Waterfall Course, with a spot of lunch in between.
With it being near Gatwick, you should be able to find a cheap Premier Inn/Travelodge to camp the night at.
Just need a 4th person and a date, now . . .

So we have yourself, me and MPB? Pretty sure we can talk noshanking into it, JAS if he is free as well. Possibly the Essex boys (LJ, SJ and the Ringer)as it's not too far round the M25 for them.
Of course, anyone else that could get there is obviously welcome.
I'm away first 2 weeks in October and first week in Sept, apart from that pretty much free.

Re: When's the next meet-up?
Kings this has been a busy thread today. Good spot on the Trevose one on the 9th Oct. I'll be having some of that...end of season debaucherous weekend in Newquay and a 36 holer on a top 100 course for £25 I think so!!!
Swindon area would be no problem, Wrag Barn is likely to be in better condition than Broome especially if we have a wet Autumn. If you were willing to go a wee bit further west the Players is a good track (about a mile off J18 of the m4).it had the Europro tour last week. Castle Combe and Bowood are the other classier tracks in the area.
I'll happily go with the flow for something nearer London though....the Berkshires been on my Must Play list for a while!!

I can only get a 4ball gratis onto the course at Mannings Heath, but we could look to dilute the savings if we get more than 4.

Happy to split any savings across the group if there are more than 4 of us
JAS, Trevose is a good track but it ain't no St Enodoc despite what people say. But at £25 for 36, def worth the money! Would love to join you for that one but I'll be away

What date are you thinking of Merc?
Also...to the Scottish contingent...I'm heading up late Thurs 1st Sept, staying at my daughters in Ayrshire so free for a game Fri 2nd. Travelling over to Carnoustie on the Saturday and hopefully nab a twilight on the Burnside Sat afternoon.
Keeping the following weekend at the end of the Tassie fairly flexible. I know D4s has already raised the possibility of a round somewhere Fife ish on that Saturday.

Yep I know D4S, it's about as gentle an intro to links golf as you'll find anywhere. It needs quite a stiff breeze for it to start bareing any teeth I was tempted to go there for my Trilby Tour heat but just couldn't logistically.

I like the sound of the Trilby Tour but, even allowing for all the clobber you get, £250 is quite a lot to pay when you have a handicap of 16.5 and no chance of winning.

Really? I was looking on the website and couldn't find anything about it being a handicap event so assumed it was a scratch competition (especially knowing JAS and the Assistant Pro at my place were in it).

Yep, once you pay your £50 deposit, you are guaranteed a place. I think after that it's first come first served for places at each venue so if you're not quick off the mark you might not get your preferred choice.
