Cena breaks WWE records

John Cena winning the WWE title on RAW this past Monday saw him reach his 9th reign, which surpasses the record previously held by HHH, with 8.

Additionally, he has leapfrogged Pedro Morales into 4th place in the longest combined reigns stakes.

Symptomatic of the WWE's faith in John Cena or lack of alternatives to him, either way it's a pretty hefty achievement, and secures his place in wrestling history at least until the next company favourite comes along...

I think Tomorrow will see him officially overtake Morales, what is he now a 10/11 time World Champ?

Think it's 11 now, which is far too many during a 8 year (or so) span, for me.

Being multiple champion is fine, but Bret had 5, Austin 6, HBK 4...why do so many get so many now!? (I know it's a two belt system, but even then...)

You've answered it mate, its the two belt system, with around the same amount of main eventers spread over 2 straps they often need to move the title around to keep it intresting

I don't know which side I'm on in regards to having a belt on each brand or just one overall. They both have their merits of course. But in any bygone era Cena, Edge, Orton et al would never have had the title reigns they have done.

Actually does that mean there are now three title holders with CM Punk, John Cena and Christian all being World Champions.

No point fretting, monthly PPV, MITB, EC etc etc have increased how many times the title is fought for and given cheap ways to make it change hands for storyline development.

In other sports the titles are fought over less frequently, only superstar boxers with cherry picked opponents hold titles for years and the UFC record is 8 defenses - can you imagine how often these would change hands if they all fought each other every month rather than 2-3 per year.

I think its obvious that one title with 6/7 main eventers would make the title more important than those same main eventers spread over two titles

I don't think Rey or Cena's reigns from Raw will count as legitimate reigns. With Punk having returned, he's never lost the belt, so I don't think the new 'title' will actually count as a world championship.

This is exactly how I see it and the look on Cena's face at the close of Raw confirms this IMO.

I'd hope this would be the case, I'm not so sure though, I think we might find out more newt week

Another perfect way to turn Cena heel , HHH comes out and says now Punk has return he is the real Champion so the tournament result and Cenas win dont count .

Personally dont think it will happen as i dont see Punk 'back' fulltime on tv , but its an option .

Well according to WWE.com's title history, Rey and Cena's reigns do count, but then again we can probably only take that with a pinch of salt.

They maybe in title history but then so is Ziggler .

Basically WWE.com is wiping away mitb result then ? so everyones favourite ppv for years now meens nothing as the title winner is no longer recognised , i just think there is more to come out regarding Punks title whether it meens someone turning heel , someone getting screwed there are now lots of roads the story can go down .

most likely will end with them going your contract expired after mitb therefore your no longer champ leading to a pursuit of the title by cm punk making him more lovable then ever in the iwc

Either Rey Mysterio has never been WWE champion or CM Punk isnt the champ and only had a 1 day reign. It cant be both.

Bang on. If Cena is turned heel then it must be logical within the storyline. At the present time he is acting entirely honourably.
