The single biggest event in tennis
Novak Djokovic, world number one, bendy bionic man, unbeatable galadiator of all tennis arenas, was on his way to reaching heights unprecedented, when by a cruel twist of fate, he was afflicted by the most debilitating of all show-stoppers.
Was it a career-threatening injury? NO.
Was it the death of a loved one? NOOOOOO
Was it a failed drug test following inadvertent consumption of a banned substance? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
It was something far more sinister than all of this: the dreaded 'bye'.
Of course the 'bye' is the single biggest event in this year's tennis calendar, perhaps the biggest single event in the history of tennis.
If Nole goes onto win the USO then only that 'bye' would have prevented a calendar slam.
Only the 'bye' would have stopped an unprecedented undefeated year.
Even if Nole somehow loses at the USO, we know that it would have been for one reason and one reason only - the 'bye'. You see the 'bye' didn't just result in the surrendering of the FO but it's knock on effects meant that Nole lost a crucial bit of confidence which potentially resulted in the USO loss.
If Nole does not remain at the top of the rankings for the next four years at least, then be assured that it was as a result of that 'bye', due to the crucial points lost at this year's FO.
If Nole is injured in the next few years there would only be one culprit - the 'bye', which left Nole in limbo - unsure whether to spend four days on the beach, or four days practicing.
If Nole loses to Roger again, surely the 'bye' is to blame, due to the immense mental scars 'it' inflicted.
Only the 'bye' may stop Nole from establishing himself as the GOAT.
Such is life, such is fate; cruel undeserved Karma.

Perhaps bendy byeonic man is more appropriate. Or perhaps Djokovic is more of a byeophobe.

Also, this 'bye' prevented Federer from completing a double career slam.
Fognini would have beaten Djoko, but rolled over for Fed who would then have had just enough left in the tank to beat Rafa.
So the 'bye' cost Fed his 17th GS
Bye

The 'bye' has also been linked to the Arab spring.
Something about the butterfly effect.

Indeed the 'bye' may also be responsible for Rafa's Wimbledon loss.
It goes like this: the 'bye' destroyed any hope Nole reaching the FO final, thus it took away Rafa's opportunity to play Novak on his turf - where we all know Rafa is invincible.
Hence rafa lost crucial momentum and confidence heading into Wimbledon. The rest is history.

I do question the wisdom of this article; while we're all laughing socal will probably spend two pages arguing that the bye cost Nole the French. Have any of us got the energy for that?

I'm just praying Nole doesn't get another bye at the USO: socal will melt down and the board will be spammed by conspiracy theories about how the only way they can stop him is to trip him up by not tiring him.

Indeed..
However this is a pre-emptive strike before Socal wakes up

Very funny, good job emancipator that is the spirit, at least you were able to formulate a post a little more involved than a couple of fourth grade insults and smiley faces.
