he has bowled well, it staggers me to why they didnt pick him for the 1st test

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Sreesanth does seem to enjoty playing in England, but hes not a very likeable chap. Hes part of the reason why the last tour here was played in such a hostile bad tempered fashion.
Hes justified his inclussion so far, although he may end up finding himself out of pocket for it after going for Erasmus. That catch appeal just lacked class.
Dont expect England to bowl India out cheaply when they come in and conditions arent so helpful, they have a middle order well capable of taking this game away from England if they themselves are out for less than 400. The batting depth is going to be tested here.

85/4. Let's see if Morgan can play a proper test Innings like Matty Prior did on Sunday.

KP has failed again... CF sorry but I might have to moan again about him
Morgan out as well, he's not a test batsman!
Bell and Prior to save England?

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Well I can't see England making anything like 400 ! Strauss gone now after being marooned on 32 for an age...batting has looked hard work for everyone except Pietersen.
His was the big wicket today. Don't think Morgan will thrive today...OOPS!!
That did for him already ...
Trouble with Capital T...

Morgan over Ravi 'Give me one more chance' Bopara
Hildreth over Morgan.

Bopara
Taylor next in line probably unless the selectors still like Hildreth,
need England to dig deep here

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I'd give Morgan the rest of the series, but let him know that if he keeps failing we'll be looking at other options in the winter.
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Just as well we bat down to 10 today
Might need a few from Jimmy too...
The sending England in decision looking like a very good one now ...however I have a feeling that batting won't be so easy for India either.
Certainly looks like a result well inside 5 days unless we get a lot of rain later.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
In fairness Morgan lasted 3 balls, Ravi wouldnt have done that...
Morgan in ODI cricket is brilliantly, but I've never felt he should have been anywhere near our test side

Have India replaced Englands batsmen with Pakistanis?

When was the last time that Morgan really delivered in a test match?

the idea of having morgan is in hoping the top 5 make good runs so Morgan has some freedom when he comes in, however recently this hasnt been the case and morgan has been exposed to low scores

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Yeah Morgan needs runs.
He's never totally convinced me as a Test batsman yet , but I like his strength of character and I think Flower does too. Suspect he'll get another match even if he fails in the second innings here - but he'd want to score then or they'd be tempted to try out someone else - (Taylor ? ) ahead of the winter tour.

Loosen up those bowling arms Jimmy. With a bit of luck we can still get to 200.

Morgan got two scores above 50 in his last two bats gainst Sri Lanka. His opportunities have been somewhat limited by Enghland rarely needing him to actually bat!
The series he played before that one was Pakistan, where he got a century. Off the back of that he lost his place to Collingwood for which the ECB were villified on the internets. Goes to show what we know eh.
An average of about 30 though ... he has to be under threat. If England lose this test its the obvious change to make to the batting lineup, bring in Ravi. I cant see them going leftfield and calling uyp Taylor after naming him Lions capatin.

I've already slated Strauss enough recently.
CALL UP HILDRETH! Not Ravi, please not Ravi.
This is going from bad to worse

Actually need Trebell here to declare game over ...may be the only hope of arresting the collapse

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Bell to save England? Our best, and most underrated, batsmen IMO
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I wouldnt say Bell is underrated after the last year or so, before that definitly because he wasn't as mentally strong as he is now.

Hard chance but should have taken that.
That would have been 98-7 and game over!

Don't think you can say game over, if Bell had gone and England rolled up quickly Anderson and co would be bowling in these conditions too and wouldnt be easy for the indian batters

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Okay I'll rephrase it would have been first innings over. Bell is our last chance of posting something close to respectable.
Even in these conditions its a 200-250+ first innings pitch.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Agree with Gregers. We'll need runs, we can't budget for rolling India out for 80 in the 4th innings like we did against Pakistan at Trent Bridge. 250 would be nice if we can get there, then try to bowl India out for the same.
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I'd take 200 then get India in tonight and try and get through their top order. The conditions look like they'll be much better for batting tomorrow and Dravid/Laxman/Tendulkar/Raina scares me against our attack on a good batting pitch.
Mind you, if it look like its going to be cloudy tomorrow then we need not worry so much

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
India showing why they are best in the world.
hope we enjoyed our one win as they're clearly a class above and we;re like little headless chickens when the pressure comes on as ever. The personnel changes just made them stronger.
shambles of a team batting these days.
this being Trent it'll flatten and they'll get a massive amount.. or it won't and they will hate it as much as we do. but they are stronger at batting so i suspect we're on for a hammering side 3 days here.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
You cant expect to be in with a serious chance against any team if you dont make 200 regardless of conditions. Against a middle order like Indias England will be in trouble even if they get the swing and have posted 250.
Its not that bad a pitch, England have batted poorly.

I reckon 250 in these conditions would be an excellent score. Four players have been cleaned up for just 7 runs , and two others have got to 30 and then fallen. A sign that this pitch is really tough to bat on today.
May be a bit easier later in the match , though I think there will be a fair bit for the bowlers throughout.
I fancy Jimmy and Bres would have had a bit of fun if India had batted first , but that's why they toss a coin at the start...
