Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
oh no we were utterly dire but winning the toss twice on trott in conditions where batting first was hell ewas extremely lucky.
Yes they had to convert it against our batting but that wasn't too hard the way we played for such good bowlers. Worlds best versus worlds rest.
Strauss seems very unlucky with the coin.

if they don't then they won't deserve a thing. they blew their chance last time.. they're surely too good to do that again.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Well that is utter nonsense. Clearly out, shows the flaws in the hotspot technology. Why the 3rd umpire couldn't use common sense and give that out after hearing the clear noise is beyond me.
Not a happy pixie.

just sometimes the other team are meant to win a match and it all goes their way.

Baggins, you are totally over reacting, and I have to question your cricketing knowledge after reading all of your offerings so far.
Poor poor side at times, what utter tripe. We have been unlucky with the toss, and to say we won't get near them again is garbage considering India are yet to score 300 in this series.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
you'd rather i start being level headed about them?
you'd really rather we never win another match?

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Agree. There was definitely a noise when the ball went passed the bat. Hotspot didn't show marks for bat on pad, bat on floor, ball on pad or anything. It just looked out.
England are still in this. It looks likely that India will get a first innings lead, but it is a two-innings game. We have to make sure any lead is as small as possible, and then bat well when we get a second chance.
It isn't "extremely lucky" that India won the toss twice, only a 1 in 4 chance. And then they've made the best of the conditions, full credit to them.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Mmm...controversial.
Should Laxman have gone there? Old story of if the umpire can't be sure the batsman gets the benefit of the doubt.
Just another example of how England just aren't getting the rub of the green. Not so much the decision as the fact it wasn't obvious enough to give it out.

Am I right in thinking there was a game against Aussie where they were a fair way behind and yet dug themselves out with a big second innings? if ever that were needed it's now i suspect.

Ah I see, bit of reverse psychology from treb?
Let's hope it works then, mate! We certainly aren't getting the rub of the green in this one.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Yes, Trebs usually can turn things around single-handedly... with his unique reverse jinx powers.
However, when the chips are down he has been known (only once or twice) to panic and start thinking out aloud - in non reverse-jinx mode. Needs to be careful sometimes!

@trebell:
If England don't start turning some of these almost-lbws and almost-edges into wickets you could be right.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I dont think Laxman was out if only due to the benefit of the doubt, if it was the other way against an English batsman we wouldnt be complaining!
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
yes sadly i've got to the point where i seem to curse them if i even attempt any sensible talk
so i'm stuck being a parody of myself. Thankfully most of the guys know and kind of ignore me.
No we really haven't but this one was always going to be a win for the team that won the toss. The pitch is lively but the day 1 conditions were set to be the worst in the match. Bad decisions don't help and Engs batting was technically poor but most teams would have got out cheaply on this yesterday.
I've written this one off barring a miracle. The bigger damage i think will be to englands confidence and the momentum india will gain seeing themselves proven to be best in the world (they'll write off last week as a one off).

As I predicted before the start of the series, India will lose out by refusing to accept UDRS, yesterday, Eng inning would have been wound up within 100 runs.

Can't work out why the pitch is behaving better today. Uneven bounce appears to have settled down . Not much seaming movement either and it's gone in a very small period of time.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
No Swann, so we've had the injury curse this time. it all evens out.
Stella when it's overcast i think the conditions there by the river become very very helpful.
Huge boost for India combined with Eng not seeming to have any discipline. The Indians know when to leave it.
They also showed the pitch was much greener yesterday.

You cant take the class and experience of Dravid and VVS out of the equation, they've been there seen it all before
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Morning all
Not looking too good so far is it? These two batting beautifully and having a little bit of luck when they need it too...not that they need it too often.
I thought overnight this partnership would be the key to the day - and probably the match - and unless something happens soon England will have a real struggle on their hands. (Trott bowling already is a worry!)
Laxman was probably out but just not enough evidence for Billy - so it goes. The close ones always seem to go against the team that is on the back foot don't they?
Need a Gary Pratt run out

century each will be a gift for these 2 legends who are playing at the Trentbridge for the last time, and probably an away series too.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Tendulkar makes his entrance and the question of the 100th hundred is raised again...presume he's healthier than at Lord's so I'd expect him to bat rather more confidently.
Now the two big guns are together and if England can break this before lunch they'll have regained most of the ground lost earlier today.
That was if
(Not sure Trott is the best choice to seek the desired break...

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
That should show the rest a good line and length to get something here.
maybe they can get India for a bit less than 400.
Good to see that , unlike Lords, the home crowd hugely drowned out the visitors when that wicket came. About time England felt they were at home.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
What is Trott doing out there? Thought Swann could bowl right away? Bresnan has broken through for England, VVS has yet again got to 50 and got out. Had been India's session so far, but another wicket will turn it around for England. India's lower middle order is soft, and unlike England they have a longish lower order.
