I will be happy if England close out the day without further loss.

Hats off to Stuart Broad what a series he's having! Marvelous hat-trick brought England right back into this game.
Shame Cooks gone early but as long as we don't lose another wicket England will be happy.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Cook really having a horror series...just when he had the world at his feet.
Sometimes you just get a good ball early on...as long as you don't panic or totally lose confidence a good player will come back, though 4 innings in a row is one too many ...
Bit of time off before the 3rd Test - he'll get in the nets with Gooch and tweak his technique as he did last year. He'll be back.

Cook wasnt always going to be in the same form but he has shown he can come back well so i expect a score or two from him this series.

I missed most of the day's play, but some tell me what happned to Jonathan Trott? Last time I checked, he was bowling his 70 MPH thunderbolts at Tendulkar and Dravid!!!.
So much water has flown since, but on earth has happened to Trott? cricinfo commenntary says he may be out of the game.........

Pheeewww
India waltz through these tricky late hours where ours are torturous nightmarish tension. brrrrr
I 'd suggest Broad comes up the order to below Prior. The mans on top of his game now so i'll wish for some Botham like heroics if or when they are needed from him.
Before him though england must bat solid and bat long!

What a days play that was. Well impressed with Broad today, 6 wickets and 2 dropped catches to go with his great score with the bat. Englands best player right now. Who would have thought that before this series started.

Great day's play. Fantastic bowling by Broad and he, almost single-handedly, has given us hope in this game. It will be another good day for batting tomorrow so if we can add 300 runs we have a chance. Believe

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
He fell on his shoulder whilst fielding msp3. I am not sure what the damage is but England may have to bat without him.
Its Englands turn to have injury worries during a game.

India haven't made over 300 runs yet. Make a nice 367 and declare, happy days.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
The injury list for the series going up rather too fast. Zaheer and Gambhir for India who already have been missing Virender Sehwag, and now Jonathan Trott and Chris Tremlett have joined them on the table. Graeme Swann too doesnt look completely fit.
Thanks Billy for the info on Trott. It seems unlikely he will take the field, at least that's what chrisinfo says.
If that is so, a huge setback for Englannd.
But through Broad, they have mounted a very strong comeback, and now if the batting clicks and puts 350 on the bord, and if Swann gets back to full fitness, it will be very dificult for India. Inndia just gave away all the advantage in that last session, although Cook's wicket is a bit of a relief.
Sreesanth and Sharma did bowl well, first sessionn again going to be crucial tomorrow.

The injury list is certainly building up msp3.
India will be fuming as they looked odds on for a big score. Broad has been the player of the match so far but Dravid is in there with a big shout as well.
Another century for one of the greatest ever bastmen of all time.

Cricinfo now saying that scans have revealed no bone damage to Trott and that he'll be assesed in the morning to see if might be able to bat.

Trott to come in late in the order and play a fine hand then!.
India's batting, their supposed strength, hasn't really lived up to the hype as yet in the series. They should have had a lead of at least 100-125, and they just fluffed it so spectacularly.

KPs miss was a biggie and only Broad saved us being sunk by stumps.
I think it will have to be something extraordinary by the batting tomorrow but who knows this series so far is in the midst of a weird energy a la 1981 and 2005.
Predictions for sessions let alone games are soon being turned on their heads.

Holy cow!
What. A. Match.
Just shows there is no sport like test match cricket. What a complete and utter turnaround. Just when India looked like cruising to a huge 1st innings lead, England prove once more that they're never out of it until the last ball of the last over.
Stuart Broad IS the new Ian Botham...and England's saviour (though Jimmy and Tim chipped in with important wickets).
What else is there to say? I'm speechless...but very happy...

Still worried by Cookie though. Out again without really troubling the scorers. What is wrong with the lad lately?

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Just one of those things, I think, mate. As Cook himself said in a recent interview, you need to make the most of the form whilst you have it, as there are plenty of times when it abandons you.
I believe this is just one of those times, and he will have his day again soon. He was due a few failures after his past year or so of consistently high scores!
Great bowling from broad today, a big batting effort is now required in order to set India a difficult target, though. If trott is lost to us it could prove to be pivotal.
Congratulations to Rahul Dravid, also. What a display of patience, concentration and skill. He really is an incredible batsman, built for such difficult situations, and it is no surprise that he has spent more time at the crease than any other batsman in test match history. Take a bow, sir.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Last night I said we'd get India out for under 300 and I was right! Still make India big favourites as we will have to bet a lot better than we did in the fist innings, only Prior of the batsmen really got an unplayable delivery though so some patience and determination is required. If we could possibly get to a lead of over 250 we will have a great chance but I'm not sure that will happen. Still, I have a lot more faith in this current England team than ones gone by.

I go out for a round of golf and look what happens!
Broad was brilliant, so was Dravid.
Yuvi surprised me a hell of a lot!
Hero of the day (England) - Broad
Hero of the day (India) - Dravid
Villain of the day (Either side) - Pieterson!

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I wouldn't be too liberal with the praise for Yuvraj, an absolute dolly was dropped by KP when he was on just 4, and he was beaten countless times. However, he deserves credit for riding his luck and cashing in to an extent.
I've got it 65/35 in India's favour at the moment.
Wouldn't be too harsh on KP either, despite it bein a sitter drops do happen, and since the infamous 5 drops in the 05 ashes he as been a very reliable fielder for England.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
If India go onto win in a close last innings (i.e. by a couple of wickets) then THAT drop will have cost us the game...

I agree them 60 extra runs could turn out vital.

But then, you don't now that, had KP held on, Dhoni and the others would have got out so cheaply.

Dhoni is out of form
Harbajan is Harbajan
The bottom 3 cannot score 60 odd
Hence the drop cost us

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
These things happen. The fact that Laxman was incorrectly given not out when he snicked up could also cost us just as much.
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Although, England were slightly lucky with the Harbhajan Singh LBW decision he's the type of player who can smash a quick 50, who knows what would of happened. The way Broad was bowling he could of got out a few bowls later.

Instead of the Pataudi trophy, this series should be the walking wounded series.

robbo277 wrote:Broad really is bowling well, Raina shouldering one over the slips for 4. I definitely had him dropped for the first test, glad I've been proved wrong! Could do with getting the Wall, but if not we need to keep taking wickets at the other end. Yuvraj isn't a great test batsman and we had the tail cheaply twice at Lords. Still a chance of bowling them out for 250-300 if we go well from here.
Called it. I'll take the credit as well, because I stopped watching in the evening session (had a rugby game). Send your letters of thanks to robbo277@gmail.com
If Cook could make a run in England it would be much appreciated, but we're not too far behind the game. Without Trott (and Cook going early) we'll need a couple of tons to set a winning target, but we have Strauss, Bell, KP and Prior who are all capable and Morgan, who I pray is. We've got Bresnan, Broad and Swann who can all make valuable contributions as well, but we don't want to leave too much to them.
Our batsman have to focus. They have to get themselves in, even if they are leaving/blocking everything. Then, once in, they have to cash in. There is TIME left in this game, so there is no worry re: run rates. Bat another 4 or possibly 5 sessions and we'll win. India still haven't made 300 in this series.
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Some of the England supporters wouldn't just be missing any possible opportunity to slate their big match player and best batsman Kevin Pietersen!. Tomorrow the line will be, 'other than his 2 double tons and 3 50s, and a couple of 40s, KP has been awful over the last year or so!!. He has been dropping catches from his debut onwards, and he almost fluffed Ashes 05, and although Strauss, Swann, Cook, have all dropped catches, KP is not supposed to do so at times.'
Some of them are really funny.

Ha, I have to agree with you, MSP. It really annoys me how people are so quick to criticise KP in comparison to some of the other guys.
As you say, he is our main man and we should be backing him and pleased we have him, not the other way round!

Right big day today, COME ON ENGLAND! I think a lead of 275+ might just do it so we need 318 runs. Strauss, Morgan and Bell do owe us some runs so let's hope they deliver. Sunny day today so we might be alright!
