Kudos to Dhoni.
What India did might've been within the laws of the game, but it was certainly far from sporting to run out a guy who thinks he's just hit a boundary.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Another update, reportedly from Jonathan Aggers on TMS: Strauss and Flower went to the Indian dressing room at tea and asked Dhoni if he would withdraw the appeal. And Dhoni consented. The umpires did not have a part to play in it.
So not the umpires, interesting....

Bumble saying that Ganguly wanted it overturned, think he must have said that in ESPN's studio, which is more than can be said for sky's spineless studio.

The umpires can't do anything off their own back, they can only act on the actions of either team.

I hope if a similar situation happens with England, we do the same, best sportsmanship i have seen this year, my respect for Dhoni has gone up 10 fold.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Wonder how all this will play out now in terms of team morale ? Will India (who were visibly flagging) be energized by the events? I'm betting it will help to stiffen their resolve with the bat when they get their chance. Especially Dhoni.
May not help their bowling though so they could have a big target , as Bell will want to make the most of his reprieve (would be a big anti-climax if he got out for 138)
Stuffed up my plans - I was off to bed at tea time as I've work tomorrow but all this has meant I'm going to have a short sleep ,,,once I've got relaxed enough again to retire peacefully

Big 6 for Morgan to bring up his 50 (52 off 60). Good knock by Morgan he could do with converting it though.

Nice to hear that decency and fair play prevailed and that the players were able to sort it out themselves.
Whoa! Morgan smashes a 6 to reach his 50...off only 60 balls too!

I cant believe this from Morgan and England. Very attacking and trying to build a big lead quickly. They must have their eye on the weather predictions for the next 2 days...

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I checked them this morning, I think it was sunny intervals tomorrow and rainy intervals on Tuesday, wasn't it?
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Yeah, i think that rain was expected on Tuesday with a cloudy day tomorrow. Batting may be difficult for the rest of this match so England may be making hay whilst the sun shines.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Should the cricket rules be changed, ie, run outs? If you are not going for a run you can not be out? IE Bell here and Murali on 99?

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I think that the rules are fine. Players and teams should respect sportsmanship rules when it comes to things like those.
I am glad Dhoni changed his mind but he was well within the rules not to.

Yes he was within his rights, but they were not going for a run, umpiring should be sensible not stuck in the 19th century.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Lead around 250.
Did I hear that 214 runs was highest winning 4th innings total at TB?
If so, they should still bat on through the last session and hopefully declare tomorrow morning sometime... to be sure. A 350 run lead would be sufficient, surely?
Warne reckons 300 run lead is enough...

The run rate from England today has been sensational. This is class. New ball due soon though so it may get interesting again. Englands lead now over 250.

Probably... however I don't think Gilly would have whipped off the bails - Haddin? Maybe...
Warne has just mentioned what he thinks the Aussies would have done. We are not that evil really and the Indians are the same.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
With so much time left in the game Linebreaker, we can afford to bat untill we are 450 ahead at least, or maybe 300 after that wicket , lol.

Bell gone, gloved Yuvraj to first slip - deflecting off Dhoni. Prior might have a testing time with the new ball due in 2 overs.

Brilliant innings from Bell, shame he is out as this was probably one of his best chances to get that maiden double ton.

Bell gone at last - great innings (not without controversy )
Morgan playing well now , lead over 250 and Prior in so I trust I can leave it to you chaps to supervise the rest of today , see you tomorrow , goodnight all.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I don,t want to start a new thread, but overrates, England bowled yesterday and the close of play was about 6pm, with 10 wickets, so why are India bowling 75 overs by 7 pm, Give Dhoni a suspended sentence (i was thinking a ban untill Bell came back)

Morgan gone, jaffa from kumar. Trott - now is the time for those heroics!
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Bell finally goes for 159 off 206. Sterling innings and the controversial stumping reversal only cost India 21 runs.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Crikey! Morgan follows in quick succession for 70 off 88. Another good knock and England almost there in terms of setting India a tricky target to win.
2 new batsmen in though - Prior and the injured Trott. Can these 2 take England to a declaration? Reckon Strauss will call it at 400.
I'd like to see India face 10-15 overs before close of play today.

Will a 300 lead be enough, or do we need 350/400?

defo 350-400 given how much time is left in the match and Dravid is in the Indian team

I think Dravid is due a duck, he has had a lot of luck so far, drops, play and misses, plus he bores me to death watching him.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Because the pitch is flattening out... need to consider what the Wall can do and if he gets some support from SRT and others. 350+ at least I would say.
I reckon they should bat for as long as possible. They will then have the best part of 2 days to get India all out.
