Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Never write off this Indian batting line up. They are due to click sooner or later and a big score will follow. Bat until out i say

With the way the ball is moving, England want to declare now and get India into bat.

its moving cos its a new ball, when the ball gets old it turns flat

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Brave effort from Trott but he is gone now. Will Broad and Prior make alot more runs?
Broad is in some form.

Sorry to sound like a moaner, but how terrible is Umpire Erasmus? I'm an Umpire myself, but this guy seems pretty clueless.

If you're talking about India, then their 3.4 and 5 are legends of the game. Plus they are missing both openers.peaceoff wrote:Billy, I would never write them off, but i will say they are the most overrated batting side i have ever seen.

I would'nt consider the Indian batting line up over rated. They didnt get to #1 in the world for nothing.
I honestly would have brought Broad in ahead of Bresnan

Linebreaker, no i'm not. i have been watching cricket since about 76, these are just flat track bullies, cliché, i know but they are, 3 innings so far here have they scored over 300 yet? The much maligned English batsmen have scored over 500 in most tests of late.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Broad over bresnan would have been a better decision.
Morgan had a good little cameo, should have gone on tho. Prior to counter attack here. We need a lead of 350+ minimum.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I think a lead of 350 is about right.
Yes India will have lots of time to bat, but they tend to score slowly and will be batting on a wearing pitch. They will be naturally cautious, so its not runs Enlgnad need to worry about, so much as having plenty of time to bowl them out.

Longhop, yes they are legends, and they are world class too, but imo they are overrated, put them against say. Hants in April here see if they average 50 then.

If Prior and Bresnan / Broad / Swann can see England to 400-450 Strauss should definitely declare.

Um maybe why bresnan was sent out ahead of broad in the batting line up...
Broad showed in the first innings, and the first test, he is the better test batsman.
And now I'm an Indian wum? Brilliant peaceoff. It's called having opinions.
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
According to the TMS Producer, India will already have to chase the highest ever run total to win a Test match at Trent Bridge.

Peaceoff, chill with the wum accusations.
Gregers has been a part of v2 for months and I can personally vouch that he is not a wum.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Any less than 350 and we may well struggle. There is the odd demon but with the right application (something which the Indian batsmen have in bundles), it would be achievable.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
We've still got a lot of batting so 400 isn't impossible. Bat normally until close then see where we are tomorrow, what the pitch is like, what the forecast is and either declare on arrival, have a quick thrash or just keep batting normally. Still two days left in this game, and giving India 6 sessions to chase 320 would be redundant. 5 sessions to chase 400 would be a better equation.
Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Peaceoff, since Y I Man has already said his piece, I will leave my admin hat off but just advise you to have a 5 min break, think about what you are saying and (hopefully) realise you are jumping the gun somewhat.
Let's not spoil a thread that is thoroughly enjoyable.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Right ,now that that's all cleared up.
Prior showing why he is arguably the best wicket keeper batsman in the world atm. Not that I'm biased at all...
Should we be looking to declare tonight?

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
I had missed the whole of the Bell incident. watched the aftermaths outside, came back and read through cricinfo. Then read through the comments over here.
Well, according to the laws of the game, Ian Bell was out, and only he had himself to blaim for that. Mahendra Singh Dhoni did the right thing, according to the laws of the game.
Should Dhoni have recalled the batsman? Yes. If you remember Sydney 08 the game India got Bucknored, Anil Kumble said only one team played according to the spirit of the game.
Dhoni again did the right thing there. Bell has no claim to stay back out there, but the game of cricket, and its spirit suggests may he should have, and Right call from MSD, it would have been India's jelly bean moment. I don't know what kind of reaction he's going to get back here in India, already I could see both sides of the case being strongly argued out on the roads. India better win it from that point of view.
Now on to some of the reactions over here. Some got cot in the heat of the moment, and had a lot to say, most of them got back to their senses. But there are others. Others who supported Collingwood during a similar moment, those who supported Andrew Strauss when he denied a cramping Graeme Smith a runner.
Enough said.

Just try to get as many as possible. A target of 400 (if achieved) will be near on impossible

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
You know that England hate changing batting lineups that are set in stone. Bresnan was given the no. 8 spot and there he remains. They might also think that Broad has more freedom at 9.Gregers wrote:

Msp83, I tip my hat to you. I think you've summed it all up perfectly.
Well played good sir
Regardless of how many we get, India will need at least 2 of DLT to stand-up.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
Whats the weather looking like for the next couple of days? Any chance of rain?
Even so, I think England will want the best part of 2 days to bowl at India. Would declare at lunch tomorrow at the very latest.

Re: England vs India 2nd Test debate
The forecast is for some rain on Tuesday dyre and overcast tomorrow. Batting will not get any easier. England, after being in a terrible position are now in a very strong position to go 2-0 up. Whou could have imagined that?
