I don't know about everyone else but I'm very much looking forward to seeing what Paddy Wallace and Sexton can do together. Defensively I don't see a problem with that combo. Plus, don't forget the problems that Morrison gave D'Arcy there a few seasons ago in the 6 Nations.
I attack I think they'll be very exciting, and creative.

Couldn't agree any more. I think Wallace is a much more complete player than Darcy tbh and will compliment us more. Defenceive issues will Wallace are hugely overrated IMO.

No PLEASE NO! I would be keen to see how Jones gets on at 15. If he does well, give him another warm up game, if he doesn't shine, let the idea rest!

Don't even joke pete.
Incidentally, I like the idea of a Fitz-Kearney-Trimble back 3.
Fitz's best position is 11, Kearney's is 15 and Trimble's is 14. Sure it may not have the panache of a back 3 containing Earls and Bowe but it's still pretty damn good.
Can't wait to see Kearney actually. He'll surprise a few.

He may get a bit from the bench. But Kearney is in urgent need of as much gametime as possible.

Backrow and front row are weak but I supposed that is too be expected with the leinster munster players being rested. If ryan plays well you'd expect him to go. Murray won't be going based on this selection. 10-12-13 axis looks very exciting.

Yea, i'm more than happy to look at these players in the forwards at this stage. Duno what the fuss is really.
Were people looking our strongest XV? Really? what would be the point of that at this stage.

Re: Irish Team Naming Thread
The breakdown of the subs bench is very interesting. A full front row. MOD is pointless to have there if McCarthy and Ryan and Cullen are there. I'd have rathered someone who can cover 7.
Re: Irish Team Naming Thread
Yes, and only one outside back- anyone else get the sense we might see Sexton come off in the 2nd half and Wallace move inside?

The front row isn't awful. It's weak compared to our first choice but it's not awful.
Court is finally playing in position in an Ireland jersey. Cronin deserves a start. Buckley is Buckley but we were hardly going to play Ross in this game and the other option is Hayes, who people would complain about too.
The backrow is bad though, no doubt. I haven't seen enough of McCarthy to comment other than the one time I did see him, in the Amlin I think, he was actually very good. He may even have been MOTM that night.
Leamy at 8, I suppose we had little choice.
I'd have played Wallace at 7 though, then again against England with O'Brien taking the France games. Niall Ronan is no more than fine in the Pro 12, in an international against a very good Scotland backrow. Forget it.
Backs look good though, if they get the ball. This was it for Murray I'd say, don't see him making the plane now. Which is fair enough (even if disappointing on a personal level).

Re: Irish Team Naming Thread
Backs are fine.
As predicted in fact.
The back row is a bit weird, but hey. It's week one.
2 x front rows means lots of rotation. Good imo. would not expect Hayes or Horan to travel barring injury, but injury is a real posibility.
Would have expected Fla to start.

10 Wallace
11 Kearney
12 McFadden
13 Fitzgerald
14 Trimble
15 Jones
10 Wallace
11 Kearney
12 McFadden
13 Fitzgerald
14 Trimble
15 Jones

Experimental rather than laughable, I'd say. But some strange decisions.
Was Niall Ronan even in the squad?
McCarthy has played all season in the second row, there are other 6's to look at. Kidney will learn nothing playing him out of position, except that he shouldn't pick him.
An ageing set of front row replacements, I wouldn't have them all in the same match squad. I would prefer that they were spread over different matches.
There's almost too much in the way of second strings, there will be little cohesion, especially in the pack.
I'm happy enough with the backs

That means they would expect Kearney to make 80 mins in a test match. Might also be a straight swap (edit: for Jones) and as you were.
Boss can cover the back three (just another way he is similar to TOL) that might be a factor.

Its a very weakened team, extremely in fact. But, I dont happen to think Scotland are much good. So, it will be a terrible scrap in a ghostly Murrayfield.
If pushed, I'll go for 15 17 to Scotland.
OK?

The frontrow is our second choice, they need gametime, and we can't expect healy and ross to play every single game. Mc Carthey is good imo, and leamy was always going to get gametime. The backrow isn't actually that bad if you ignore ronan and I don't think there was much choice there. Sob and wallace will cover 7 for the world cup but both have played a lot of rugby in the last year. Then with jennings injured, it was always likely to be ronan. Murray was never going to go.
