Greatest Goalkeeper of All Time?

Who in your opinion is the greatest goalkeeper of all time?

Schmeichel without doubt in my opinion. He will never be replaced.

Banks, with honorable mentions to Shilts, Tafferel, Harold Schumacher and Grobs.

Banks for me, obviously have never seen him play live but the saves you see him make on video are incredible

For me it's either Lev Yashin or Dino Zoff, but I voted Zoff in the end. My reasoning for this is that he won the World Cup as captain in 1982 as captain of Italy at the age of 40. Zoff also won six Serie A championships with Juventus and the 1968 European Championship with Italy. He is recognised not only as one of the best goalkeepers ever, but also as one of the most intelligent and level headed, a tag emphasized by his progression to the manager of the Italian national team.

I know he never played on the world stage but I think that Neville Southall definitely deserves a place on that list. He would be my choice.

Peter Schmeichel due to his consistency at the highest level for so many years. The number of one on ones which he thwarted the attacking player was amazing.

Gordon Banks without any doubt.

There's not much which can lure me off the boxing board, but I saw this and couldn't resist.

As a teenager I was a budding goalkeeper and Gordon Banks was one of my heroes. Pat Jennings was another, and while I just about remember Yashin, ( who some old timers regard as the best, ) from the '66 World Cup I'd still plump for these two as the best of the lot.

Reminds me of the old Leeds keeper, Gary Sprake, dropping a clanger at Anfield which gifted Liverpool a goal. The Kop spontaneously broke into Max Bygraves' song ' You Need Hands. '

I can only really comment on the ones I have seen - so Peter Schmeichel is the best for me. Casillas is probably the best still playing, although he has had an up and down 18 months.

Would have to be Peter Schmeichel for me, great goalkeeper.
