TaylorMade R11 driver = AWESOME!
Hi everyone,
Just thought I would let everyone know my thoughts regarding the new driver from TaylorMade.
I picked mine up on Monday after being custom fit for it and all I can say is if anyone is in the market for a new driver and you have the funds look no further than the R11! The new fujikara stiff shaft is immense and the customisation on the club head is quite simply scary. Its added another 35+ yards onto my tee shots without swining the club any harder than my old custom fit R7. I just can't believe how good this club is!
Anyone else bought one of these bad boys and if so what are your thoughts??

Tried it, not as long or solid as my Nike driver, or for that fact as long or consistent as there other offering the Burner Superfast TP. The ability to change toe sole weight so it sits up more a total waste of time for any player who hovers the club at address, and generally over priced compared to some b etter offerings e.g the new Nike Black MAchspeed Str8-Fit or the new titleist Driver.
But if it works for you well done as for 35+ yards im dubious!

Re: TaylorMade R11 driver = AWESOME!
I tried the new titleist D10 d3 and found that no better than my R7, the Ping i15 was the same but I did like the new Nike VR Pro (think thats what it was) but the R11 gave me the best results by a county mile. I was getting an extra 15mph on my swingspeed with the R11 than any of the other clubs I hit and was actually hitting the ball out of the boundaries of the driving range at Parklands where I was custom fit.
I have also noticed at my home course I'm hitting 2 less clubs into the greens following on from a good drive. I can't wait until the summer when the air is a little warmer and the ground is firmer and I can get more role.

As I said i f itworks for you thats all that matters, but i found it to gimmicking and trailing in the idstance stakes compared to my Nike, but have to say distance is not the major factor i look for in a driver

Re: TaylorMade R11 driver = AWESOME!
Just dug out an old golf mag with the review for the white headed disco stick!
Says "Taylormade claim the R11 with the right adjustment of weights can claim to add upto 3% increase in swing speed which can equate to an average of 5-7yards to your ball carry"
So my question is if your as your claiming have added 35+ yards to yours what the hell is your swing speed through impact because your numbers do not equate At all.
Likewise I have also read comments made by DJ stating he loves the look of the R11 but has only increased his distance by an average of 3 yards., and that guys has 125mph + depending on if he really goes at it or not
Luke Donald is carrying one and his stats show no change from last year in average length so what have you got that the tour pro's haven't, a bag of steroids perhaps! Or just a complex !

They'll have to change it soon. The way the eagles are dying out it will soon have to be Birdie, Seagull, Albatross.
ALBATROSS!
Or possibly a gannet on a stick.

Re: TaylorMade R11 driver = AWESOME!
The only way this story could stack up would be if his driving range was only 150 yards long, and before getting this magical white instrument his swing speed was only around 50 mph. With an extra 15mph, he could possibly add 35 yards.
Obviously this isn't the case.
Being a bit of an equipment geek, the only club I have ever known that could achieve such an increase in distance were those dodgy, illegal, pre-titanium, ceramic headed drivers from the early/mid 90's, that sent the ball in every direction apart from straight.

R11 Series
I have some Callaway woods, which I hit fairly straight with my normal swing, and a Callaway Diablo Hybrid that I hit with a fade, I occasionally forget this which is annoying, so I have bought an 18 degree R11 hybrid so that I can set up a hybrid to go straight with my normal swing. It does set up very easily and appears lighter in weight than the Callaway and gives me about the same distance. What I don't like is that the black face showsw scratches after about 10 hits and lookks quite distressed after it's now approx 200 hits on range and course, also while using it from the rough yesterday I caught the ball on the edge of the crown and a bit of the white paint went flying so the club now looks as if I have had it a couple of years instead of 4 days. One other thing that was irritating is that there was no wrench supplied and the Taylormade service centre does not know whether one should be supplied with it or not, they seem to assume you will buy the R11 range and get the wrench with the driver, fortunatelly the shop where I purchased the Hybrid donated a spare that they had.

Hmm. Not sure I can add much to the sarcasm already posted. You should probably declare to everyone your vested interested i.e. TM .

ha ha. yeah im sure. I was playing with the an old TM R7 and when I was hitting balls down the range my max swing speed with that was 96mph and was hitting around 220 yards.
Like I said in another reply I hit more than just the R11. The titleist D10 was the next highest swing speed (101mph) but nothing came close to the R11 (consistantly around the 110mph mark and 250 yards+). The pro at parklands said he had found this a common feature with people hitting the R11 driver that they were achieving a much higher swing speed than any other club.
Oh and unfortunately I'm defo not on any sort of commission with TM. I use Ping i15 irons and titleist vokey wedges so not biased towards TM at all.

If that is the case then I can only assume you were hitting harder as the session went on as your muscles warmed up. I don't think that will be the case on the course, sounds like you were really thrashing at the ball with the R11.
My normal driver swingspeed is about 95 mph and when I deliberately try to thrash one it only goes up by 3 or 4 mph. Gaining 15mph is a massive, and I mean MASSIVE, increase.
But if the club has done that for you then best of luck, hit em long and straight!

I have not been a fan of the taylormade drivers since the days of the r540. I dont know what others think but taylormade seem to offer some very poor stock shafts. This means value wise they do not compare well with some other brands, by the time you have uprated the shaft. No matter the flex of the shaft I find taylormade drivers to feel very plastic when you strike the ball.

Yeah, I agree with you on that one, they are pish. The standard REAX shaft is like a bit of wet spaghetti, never buy any club fitted with one of those. I've got the R9 but quickly changed the shaft to the Fubuki which is excellent.

I am tempted to test drive the R11 but I'm biffing my r7 superquad so sweetly at the moment I'd be loathe to change anything. However if TM could promise me that I wouldn't duck hook it into the trees off the 15th tee when 1 under gross then I might just go for one <laugh>

I have never owned a TM driver but they do seem to change the models quite often. A bit like mobile phones a few years ago, holding back the technology to make more money out of marginal improvements/added extras...

TM aim their marketing towards gullible people. Anyone who thinks a white coat of paint will make them play better deserves to be conned out of £300.

Re: TaylorMade R11 driver = AWESOME!
I don't care what colour it is, if in a custom fitting session I hit it longer and straighter than every other driver out there it could be White with pink spots and I'd still have it. That's why I currently have an R7 (when the rest of my bag is almost exclusively Ping). I wanted the Ping driver, but we tried different shafts, loft angles, offsets, just couldn't get near the performance of the R7....for me. I also tried Cleveland, callaway, Nike offering but the R7 just felt right for me and performed best.
