Experienced trio back for Wales
From Planet Rugby
Lee Byrne, Adam Jones and James Hook have been passed fit for Wales' second World Cup warm-up match against England in Cardiff on Saturday.
Byrne (knee), Adams (toe) and Hook (shoulder) missed Saturday's clash at Twickenham, which England won 23-19, but Wales Rugby Union national performance medical manager Prav Mathema confirmed that they will be in action at the Millennium Stadium this weekend.
"Both Adam and Lee where back in full training towards the end of last week and James is also now ready to take a full part," he told WalesOnline
Mathema said Richard Hibbard (shoulder) and Leigh Halfpenny (ankle) are on course to be available for Wales' last pre-World Cup match against Argentina on August 20.
"Both Leigh and Richard have come through contact screening and will be fully integrated back into training this week, with a view to being back in contention for the Pumas match," said Mathema.
However, Wales were waiting on test results regarding the fitness of Stephen Jones (calf) and Matthew Rees (neck).
"Stephen pulled out of the game at the weekend as a precaution with a tight calf, but we need to have a closer look at him in the early part of this week before we make a further judgement.
"Matthew is making normal progress after his injection, but it is also too soon to make a judgement on him," added Mathema.
Meanwhile, full-back Morgan Stoddart has undergone surgery in London on his broken leg and will return to Wales on Tuesday.
"The good news about Morgan is that he has come through surgery successfully and he will now begin his rehabilitation programme back at the Scarlets," said Mathema.
"He travels back from London tomorrow, but it is impossible at this stage to put a time frame on his recovery."

Re: Welsh injury update
Huge shame about Stoddart - I hope they don't play both Hook and Byrne, as I think if Hook plays 10 Priestland should play 15, and if Hook doesn't play then Priestland should play 10.
Be nice to see Brew playing I think.
Good news about Hibbert as he def needs a game b4 the WC, so really hope he makes the Argies game. And the same about Adam

No news on Gethin though which is weird.
To be honest, and I may be being selfish, Id prefer Brew not to go if he only gets a run against Argentinia so that the Dragons can appreciate his talents

I disagree, I think Hook and Byrne need game time far more than Priestland.
Priestland was given a big opportunity and we asked a lot of him, he fully stepped up to the mark and proved he is a valuable part of the squad.
I also am not overly concerned on whether brew plays.
We know what he can do, he isn't spectacular, he is useful though, but not high on my list of players I would want in the squad. I would prefer halfpenny. Or a player who can play more than one position than just wing.
I would though love to see Hibbard fit and playing soon. He is a good hooker and we need him.

Re: Welsh injury update
Did anyone else read the Western Fail's assessment of our full back options? For James Hook, they said that he was 'capable of doing a job at full back and doing it well.' I must have missed those games.

Re: Welsh injury update
In regards to Byrne I think getting a viable alternative at FB is more pressing than playing Byrne who has under performed but has huge amounts of experience - I mean if he was injured tomorrow and missed the 2 warm up games, you'd still take him to the WC and consider him for SA, but can you say the same for Priestland or any other FB option (and there's not many following Stoddarts injury)
I agree Hook needs game time at 10, but I think Priestland does as well (I suppose maybe if Hook starts and Preistland comes on at say 50/60 min mark then that would do)

I try and avoid the Fail Luckless, it can be funny but can be equally offensive in it's factless and contradictory comments

Does anyone know if we'll get it on BBC as it's in Wales or do we have to put up with Sky again?

Re: Welsh injury update
Oh great, another day down the pub then (if I don't manage to get the tickets I'm hoping for) listening to some more public school boy tinged drivel.

Why not go to a different pub and listen to comprehensive schoolboy drivel?Just a thought.Smirnoffpriest wrote:Oh great, another day down the pub then (if I don't manage to get the tickets I'm hoping for) listening to some more public school boy tinged drivel.

Re: Welsh injury update
I meant the commentators rather than the other people in the pub. Most English rugby pundits and some players seem to affect this public school boy twang (I know some of them are public school boys but not all).
I think most of the pubs I'd go into the patrons would be too drunk to be understood or it would be just too noisy to hear them.
