Matches Off [so far -- updated]
•Tuesday: Charlton v Reading (Carling Cup)
•Tuesday: West Ham v Aldershot (Carling Cup)
•Tuesday: Crystal Palace v Crawley Town (Carling Cup)
Looks too like the England game is in trouble because of the continuing looting and violence.
Sat: Tottenham vs Everton -- Henry Winter confirms this one is now OFF.

The England match should not have been happening in the first place. Ridiculous time for an international match with the Premiership kicking off this weekend.

Agreed. What is the point in friendlies anyway -- let alone three days before the season starts. It's like they want to urine off managers.

It's a fair point, but largely irrelevant at the moment

Sadly the answer is money.
Eng have a sponsorship agreement that requires them to play a certain number of games - I think it's with Vauxhall now (used to be Nationwide). Plus when they built Wembley they managed to rack up a sizeable debt so fixtures are needed at Wembley to recover costs.
But like others have said, the timing of this friendly was poor....

Re: Matches Off [so far -- updated]
I can see the Manchester matches being called off
due to the actions of the feral rats.
Maybe the local supporters should get together and
find those 'feral rats' and then, they will of course,
hand them over to the police.

Seems the FA are meeting this afternoon to discuss the upcoming fixtures.
What do people THINK will happen (not what you WANT to happen)
I'm sure every football fan WANTS to see the fixtures go ahead but I can see a blanket postponement of all Premier and Championship matches this weekend

Re: Matches Off [so far -- updated]
I don't think a postponement is strictly necessary, but it really depends on what they plan to do with the police over the next week or so. If they will be stretched away from vital areas by the football being played, it makes sense to wait it out.
I don't want it to come to that, I'm desperate for all football to be back on the agenda! But large crowds getting boozed up and marching through town centres is a perfect cover for scumbags to start robbing again.

City-Swansea
Liverpool-Sunderland
West Brom-United
Are likely, with West Brom the most likely. Not sure whether to change my fantasy team.

Re: Matches Off [so far -- updated]
Very quiet last night in Birmingham,West Brom and Wolverhampton from what I've heard/been told.
With our(west brom) game being on the Sunday, they might give it another day to see what the riots are like tonight.

Re: Matches Off [so far -- updated]
West Ham are away to Doncaster this weekend so fingers crossed that is clear.
It would be a real shame to have a hodge podge list of fixtures on opening day, but I see more going after the Spurs example.

Re: Matches Off [so far -- updated]
Interestingly, Sky News just showed a caption showing 4 prem matches off on Saturday - but the voice-over only mentioned Tottenham.
Hopefully just a mistake in the caption

Re: Matches Off [so far -- updated]
Dawson and Neville came out and expressed how gutted they are about not having the fixture. Not good news for Spurs who will have Europa League clogging up their fixture list already, they now need to fit in the Everton game somewhere.
