A dramatic match by England, who bowl out West Indies for a 18 run win and now need SA to beat Bangladesh, or India beat West Indies for a place in the quarters.

What a match! I was following it on Sky Sports Cricket app on my iPhone - yet another great performance from England's bowlers it seems

Re: Cricket World Cup. Day by Day
our batting is still rubbish though, at least we can depend on the bowlers who are on top form at the moment.

Re: Cricket World Cup. Day by Day
With the form that South Africa are in at the moment I would expect them to ease to victory. However, if you look at it this way:
We (England) are the only team to have defeated South Africa at this World Cup. Bangladesh beat us, sooo...
Just a pessimistic look on things! But it was a funny match on a very low scoring pitch between England and South Africa, so it was always going to be unpredictable.

Good recovery by England today. With the current lunatic international playing schedule I wonder how many of the team will be around for the next World Cup....

Re: Cricket World Cup. Day by Day
If South Africa do rest players the incoming players will want to play well to try and get a place in the team even if there looks like 1 maybe 2 possible spaces.
Even though England were not resting players look at how well Tredwell (4-48 off 10 overs) and Wright (44 and 0-18 off 4 overs) and even though Tremlett wasn't as good, many a bowlers figures have been destroyled by Gayle.

England are 173-3 off 40 overs, after winning the toss and chosing to bat first. Jonathon Trott is on 66(89) and Eoin Morgan has 42(44)

England reached 229-6 off the full 50 overs. Trott played well, but he bats too slowly, which may be the cause of that low score.

Re: Cricket World Cup. Day by Day
Trott is the anchorman. He did his job today. Morgan also but he had a lot of luck.
It's players like Straus and Bell who didn't do what they should have.
Still 230 won't be easy to get on that pitch if England bowl well.

Sri Lanka scrape home by 10 wickets.....
Perhaps if we had had a bit more cricket in the build up to this competition we would have done better....

Re: Cricket World Cup. Day by Day
England were fairly awful today, especially in bat (apart from john trott) and then not much better in the field. Sri lanka were very good though with an all round bowling attack and fearless opening batsmen.
Personally i don't think england could have had any more cricket this winter considering they started in mid november. Today was a classic case of too much cricket for the body too handle.

Mrsscotland -I agree with you (eg see my comment on the thread about Mike Yardy leaving the tour). The amount of international cricket is completely ridiculous.
Can we get a better "wink" emoticon?! The one here is a bit too subtle....

Right ho, time for the big game!
India - Pakistan world cup semi, should be a cracker!
India have won the toss and elected to bat first. "Runs on the board in a tense game," says Dhoni.
Team news: India have replaced Ashwin with Nehra, hmmm interesting call, so just the one specialist spinner for India then. Pakistan are unchanged still, resisting the option of recalling Shoaib.
What do you think? I'm a believer in the saying "bowlers win matches" and Pakistan's bowling looks the stronger outfit to me...

India have started well, but the spinners looks dangerous for Pakistan, Tendulkat lucky to survive twice in two balls there. Will India regret dropping Ashwin?

Was just thinking the same thing. Ashwin is a very good spinner and Nehra hasn't bowled well at all so far.
India desperately need Sachin to stay in and get to 100 here.

What score do you think India need to make to think "we've done enough"? Pitch looks good and Indian bowling not great so you'd think they need to be looking at 300 from here...

Re: Cricket World Cup. Day by Day
well they've ended on 260/9
Wahab Riaz bowled superbly to take five wickets, and the spinners contained the scoring well, while Umar Gul had a really bad day at the office.
By no means a poor score, but below par on this pitch I feel, especially with the stregth of their batting. Advantage Pakistan at this stage IMO

Agree, advantage Pakistan. As long as there batsmen don't lose their heads!

All over. Got Mark Nicholas commentating at the end, getting massively excited. Strange tactics from Pakistan, why did they delay the batting powerplay solong?
