Wrestling of the past Empty Wrestling of the past

Post by AberdeenSteve Sun 20 Feb 2011, 12:58 pm

I have been on this board and the old 606 for almost 6 to 7 months now. Whilst being on here I have enjoyed reading the topics and discussions that some of the older guys have gone into and spoken about the Hogan/Warrior era and the mid 1990's. However, being only 19 years old I haven't much knowledge of this period in wrestling and therefore not sure of what you guys are talking about. My knowledge begins at around the 2001 Judgement Day.

Now, I am HUGE wrestling fan and always looking to expand my knowledge in the subject and would greatly appreciate if some the guys on here could fill me in with some the best matches of the Hogan/Warrior era and then the mid 1990's that stand out in your mind from both the WWF and WCW as classics and that you would recommend I watch. Also any PPV's that stand out in your mind would be grealy appreciated too.

Hope to hear from you guys!

Like you Steve i started watching WWE religously around yr 2000.

Ive got the wrestlemania anthology which is a great set of DVD's. But without all the build up and storylines leading up to it i feel ive missed out big time.

Im sure some of the guys on here can fill you in though

I am sorry for being a little wide on the coverage I'm asking to be covered.

What periods do you recommend I search for as the better?

Personally (and this is just my opinion) I'd go for the New Generation era.
HBK and Bret Hart, Razor Ramon, Diesel, Undertaker.
The quality of wrestling on show then was for me the best.

I will be taking a look at that era, I'm a fan of Nash but never really seen much of his earlier stuff. Cheers Hero!

What years do the 'New Generation Era' come into?

Early stuff Diesel was actually immense, people regularly criticise Nash but back then he was a real great big guy, his time as enforcer for HBK and then their rivalry was really good stuff.
I’d say New Gen was 94-98 though there is obviously a crossover into the Attitude era then.

Does anyone have a website where I can watch other PPV's and matches or is YouTube my bets bet?

It depends on what style of wrestling you like if you are into good technical stuff i recomend you watch some of Dynamite kids vs Tiger mask matches,
Also a lot of the cruiserweight matches from WCW were fantastic.

My favorite period AberdeenSteve was between 89-93. You had Hogan, Warrior, Savage, Flair, Rude all in their prime. With the likes of Hart, Michaels, Taker Bulldog all on the rise & being seen as stars of the future....
But personally my favourite year was 97, the begining of the edgier storylines. Austin's rise, The formation of DX, with Michaels playing the master antagonist. The Bret Hart heel turn, culminating in the most infamous moment in the modern history of pro wrestling the Montreal Screwjob.
