Union Cane's Prediction Cup - The Final Result - Winner : alma
First topic message reminder :
I'm toying with the idea of running a knockout cup competition alongside the new Premiership / Championship Prediction Leagues, this is just a test event to iron out any potential problems with the stadia and transport network et cetera.
The idea is to use Wednesday Night Fights for the cup competition, this will mean a limited choice and a lot of unheard of fighters, so it might fall flat on its face, but if it doesn't work I'll know not to bother with it when the next season kicks off.
So, I need 16 volunteers for the test event, once we have the 16 I will do the draw and then put the fights up for you to predict.

The Final
We are going on a five day trip around the world for The Final, visiting all four corners of the globe.
The fights are as follows :
A - Sunday 4th September - Tanzania
1. Bakari Mohamed v. Ramadhani Shauri (8) - Ramadhani Shauri W PTS

Injury and illness decimated the line up (I should think), and only 3 fights survived, one of which was drawn. Alma scores an impressive 8 points, having predicted both remaining fights would end in decisions, whilst sodhat scores a solitary 1 point for predicting that Shauri would beat Mohamed. That's quite a lead after the first card, has alma got this in the bag already?
B - Monday 5th September - Dominican Republic

Anyway. As far as I'm concerned - any stoppage in less than 4 rounds is a quick stoppage - even if the fight was only scheduled for.
just because your name is in blue, it doesn't give you the right to manipulate the rules to your liking.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction Cup - The Final Result - Winner : alma
Where did you get all this "mid" nonsense from?
It's either Early or Late, with Early being the first half of the fight and Late being the second half.
To be honest, I thought I'd made that clear when I said "If you predict Early (first half) or Late (second half) for your TKO's you could get even more points" but perhaps I didn't make it clear enough.

Atef Mohamed, KO, Early
Samir, Pts, UD
Omar Magdy Mohamed, Pts, UD
My knowledge of Eygptian boxing is rusty, so I think dumb luck will take a part in this. I was tempted to put the last one down as a draw! As good a result as any!!

Are you striving for irrelevancy with this or is that a consequence of timing?

Re: Union Cane's Prediction Cup - The Final Result - Winner : alma
I know that, but they are the only fights.
This is, after all, a test event, if the fact that the only fights on Wednesdays are of such a poor calibre that nobody is interested then the whole knockout cup midweek tournament idea will be consigned to the bin.
Perhaps, as you say, its a matter of timing and in a few weeks there will be a much wider selection to choose from. We shall see.
Thanks for your continuing support.

I nearly wet myself with excitement last week. Does help if we can see the results coming in live. perhaps you should plan ahead and rather than do it every week, arrange it for when we have a phillipinno, japanese or australian card? Michaels.

It was a special moment, that's for sure. Problem with that is that if it is running alongside the Prediction Premiership there are only five weeks to play with, and if I'm starting with a round of 32 then the full five weeks are needed to get all the rounds in.

Just been looking ahead, we have both Australian and Japanese cards (provisionally 10 fights in total) for next week's Semi Finals, but for the Grand Final the week after there is only one fight. This idea may be doomed to failure.

Surely if someone doesn't submit a prediction, then their apathy rules them out. Otherwise, you end up with a re-match with someone who isn't going to predict anyway and you continue until you at least get a point (which could be a long time in my case!). Not a criticism of a fun competition run with passion by Union Crane, just an observation!!

You must be pretty hopeless to score 0 points though, if you can't manage a single point you don't deserve to go through.

Sorry! I was hoping you wouldn't see that bit. That Braintree quip still rankles.

Personally i think the word "prediction" should be replaced by the words "total pointless guesswork with no skill involved"

I don't know why you are so bitter, it's not like you were humiliatingly knocked out in the firs...

Just merely stating the obvious that there's zero skill involved.
For instance, you could give a monkey a block to hit for method of victory and the winning fighter and they'd probably fair just as well as the random guess we put out.
As that's all they are, guesses. Unless you've heard of "Atef Mohamed" you're not exactly doing anything other than just guessing.

Perhaps this should replace the other predictor league, as i can't see a divisonal ranking system working and it'd also be over inside inside the 2031289 weeks it's currently running for which has probably resulted in many participants not bothering with their predictions as they're already behind.

Sadly i'm not an avid follower of Egyptian title fights. I'm assuming the winner doesn't get a belt but gets 3 new wives and a camel?

I have never pretended that it is otherwise though have I? This is a test event, a dummy run if you will, not a spit your dummy out run, but like I've said all along, if its a pile of cack I won't do it again.
Its a bit of fun, you're a miserable sod, the two are never going to mix.
Don't know why you entered in the first place.

1. Hany Atiyo v. Mahmoud Suleiman (12) Atiyo EKO
2. Atef Mohamed v. Mohamed Izad (10) Izad EKO
3. Amuro Atiyo v. Anshraf Samir (10) Atiyo LKO
Love this:
2010-06-10 Hassan Saif debut
Sere El - Kroba Sports Club, Cairo, Egypt NC NC 2 4
referee: Mohamed Zaki | judge: Zead Debes | judge: Mike Chi
The bout was stopped in round 2 because the coaches of both boxers were fighting and throwing water at each other.

Possibly. Need to finish work, cut and roll a few pitches then get back in time. Glad you avoided the cull Union. This is the highlight of my (working) week.
