Football Manager 2012
Just a note (pinched directly from Wikipedia regarding the 2012 installment of FM. I am desperate to get a hold of this and start playing, I missed 2011 out but I fully intend to get back on this social life-sapping horse.
The next in the series of the Football Manager simulation game is set to be the 19th game released and is reported to include 800+ improvements. The new changes (of which only a few have been announced so far) include an improved 3D Match Engine, a new manager team talk system called "Tone" which will enhance your personality in the game and a different way to select the nations involved in your player database which now means that you can add or remove nations as you play.
The final version though, is yet to be finished as it will need the Summer Transfers within the game and some parts just need "finishing off".
More information from press releases is expected to come out in Autumn 2011 and the game is to come out before Christmas, but if the development stays on course it will be released (like previous versions in the series) in late October to early November 2011. A handheld version is also widely expected, but hasn't been officially announced as yet.

Pre-ordered my copy, cannot wait.
I just hope the revamped interviews and team talk systems are success. It has always been the biggest downfall in recent editions.

Is it sad that I am already looking forward to trawling through the massive list of guys available on free transfers?

Re: Football Manager 2012
PC as far as I'm aware, the last FM version that was available on Xbox from memory was 2008, think they moved away after that.
As for free transfers, well since I only ever play as teams from the bottom divisions that's my market of choice/no other choice. So not sad as far as I'm concerned.

Good man Dass, I am like you and enjoy the challenge of taking a team from the lower leagues and making them a pretty decent side. So trawling through the free transfers is usually what takes up about the first three hours of any save

Re: Football Manager 2012
My favourite game is normally taking a Conference North/South team up to the Premiership, though any league is always good fun. The other type of game I like to play is start unemployed and then play a journeyman game trying to get a big job over time, first club is normally out in Asia somewhere.
Always get bored with the bigger teams.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Yeah, I am the same with you. I always get bored with the bigger teams. I have tried the journeyman route but found myself getting annoyed with all the real players retiring and being left with the annoying looking Regens. That is the one part of the game that really annoys me
Looking forward to being able to add countries into the game as you go long. Should be brilliant!

Re: Football Manager 2012
Yes that's the bit that I'm most looking forward to, being able to properly move between the leagues freely instead of having to choose just a few right at the beginning.
Re: Football Manager 2012
Started a game as City (budget £56 million for League winners) just to play through a season and check out the game. Going to start a "proper" game when the full game comes out.
Re: Football Manager 2012
I've Started a game with arsenal, plenty of improvements needed with money to spend. First signing tevez for 20 million!! Getting loads of injuries though. My laptop is struggling with the 3d match engine, had to switch to old over head view.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Had a few minor dabbles with various teams to get a feel for the new game, have to say they have done very well with making the UI far better in many ways.
Will start my first serious game with my brother tonight, the old Conference North/South game. Each take a different division and aim for the Premiership.
The only negative I have so far is that the friendly system much like previous versions is to easy to abuse as a smaller club to make large chunks of cash.

I use Steam also but I had major problems buying it through that software on the 2009 edition and I haven't gone back to do it since. I am happy to wait a few extra days.
I have starved myself of any FM for two weeks no so eager to see what the new edition offers.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Cracking news. Have you experienced the 'improved' team talk/interview side of things yet?
I'll be doing the same and taking a small tea, to the big time. More than likely Peterhead. Now, that should be challenge

Re: Football Manager 2012
Yeah I'm a big fan of the new team talk side of things plus the addition of comments on how players are performing or are looking during a game is excellent. Tevez at City is the best example as he constantly comes up as not interested during each match after asking to be taken of the transfer list. The team talk side ain't bad but doesn't seem a huge difference for me then again I might not have delved enough into it yet.
My little brother started up a journeyman game last night first job he was offered was Peterhead which for him was a welcome change from some 2nd division Chinese side he used to get.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Have started a Newcastle game and pretty much cleared out all of the backroom staff, but I managed to reduce my wage bill and still bring in a few top quality signings. Heading off to work now but will post again later with who I bought.
Wilfried - £2.5m looks beastly though.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Already started with West Ham and not doing too badly, after 4 matches.
How does everyone view matches? I generally used to just use text (old fashioned style) but I'm looking at the 3D engine on key highlights so far -- is it worth doing?

Re: Football Manager 2012
im top of league in my arsenal game, got rid of loads of dead wood and brought in tevez, cardoza, wiese, ayew (the better one). although my start to the season was very easy. 15 games played won 13.
the team talk is better, i like the way you can define how you talk to them, theres nothing like a agressive kick up the back side at half time to get them coming out to play. worked for me, two nil down at half time at newcastle to draw.
tried getting neymar and ganso on the cheap like last game they were not having it! 25 million each and still no go.
my laptop is abit knackered and was really slow on the 3d macth engine (it did manage 2011 fine though) so i switched to the overhead view which works fine. not that much difference to me either way but if you got a computer that works well enough i would say its worth doing just to see of the great goals your team can score

I'm playing as Utd, brought in Eden Hazard (£39m), Mario Gotze (£40m) and Yann M'Vila (£30m) so far, still lost to City 2-1 in both the Community Shield and the League.

Gotze looks awesome on it, out of my budget though. Went in for hazard, but couldnt get him so went for ayew instead, he's got 11 million buy out clause. Good buy for that money

Re: Football Manager 2012
£24.95 from Shopto and delivered the day before
Only played one league game and lost 2-1 to Arsenal, played quite well though. Signed Hinkel (Free), Diame (£3.7m), Wilfried (£2.5m), Aldrete (£1.7m), Craig Dawson (£3.7m) and Maynard (£1m + Perch) for a combined £12.5m and Kevin De Bruyne joins at the end of the season for just over £3m.
Sold Smith (£1.2m), Lovenkrands (£1.7m), Best (£3.6m), Perch (P/Ex), Williamson (£3.1m) and trying to sell Raylor so I've spent less than I've received. I've also loaned out Ameobi and Ranger for £1.5m.
Annoyingly the board only give me 60% of all funds brought in so my budget is still quite low, but should be enough to bring in Eyong Enoh.

Re: Football Manager 2012
I got West Ham promoted with 37 games gone of the season. Everyone beat everyone else and we cruised it.
The board still aren't that happy though! Hard to please on this one I think.
I spent £4.6m on Sean Scannell from Palace, cracking player scoring me goals and then he got injured for four months on international duty...U21's for God's sake! I was fuming.
