Football Manager 2012
First topic message reminder :
Just a note (pinched directly from Wikipedia regarding the 2012 installment of FM. I am desperate to get a hold of this and start playing, I missed 2011 out but I fully intend to get back on this social life-sapping horse.
The next in the series of the Football Manager simulation game is set to be the 19th game released and is reported to include 800+ improvements. The new changes (of which only a few have been announced so far) include an improved 3D Match Engine, a new manager team talk system called "Tone" which will enhance your personality in the game and a different way to select the nations involved in your player database which now means that you can add or remove nations as you play.
The final version though, is yet to be finished as it will need the Summer Transfers within the game and some parts just need "finishing off".
More information from press releases is expected to come out in Autumn 2011 and the game is to come out before Christmas, but if the development stays on course it will be released (like previous versions in the series) in late October to early November 2011. A handheld version is also widely expected, but hasn't been officially announced as yet.

at home, i was freeflowing attacking football, generally using 3 up front, and away either 4-4-2, or 4-5-1

Re: Football Manager 2012
I played 4-1-4-1 and it worked a treat home and away, playing short passing football allowing creativity and on standard set up.
Need a better centre forward than Cole though, the guy misses chances for fun. Hope I get a half decent budget in the summer too, or I may be struggling.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Waiting for my copy to arrive, still on the demo at the moment with malaga. Kind of cheating though, signed loads of top players through clauses knowing full well the demo finishes in december. Signed ganso for a million up front, ten mil over 48 months, then offered 60 mil after 20 international apperances and 80 mil after 40 league apperances

Started a journeyman save. I have been placed at my first job in Wales with Aberystwyth. You can literally attract nobody to the Welsh League unless they are Welsh.
Played 5 games & won all five so far. Defence incredibly leaky but managed to sign a veteran striker who is full of goals!

Got this game guys, addicted already.
8th after 6 games with Villa, just scooped manager of the month as well for 2 wins out of 2 in the month
Lost 1-0 away to Norwich, disappointing, but through in the cup after beating QPR and managed a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on the opening day.

Top of the league with Villa after 13 games! How's that happen??
Just got knocked out of the league cup in the quarters on pens to forest though, which was disappointing.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Certainly the best FM game yet and in some ways a rival to those late 90's early 00's versions of CM. They are hard to compare as games as in many ways they play at totally different levels but that intrinsic level of fun and enjoyment is comparable.
The UI has been improved tremendously in my eyes making things far easier to access and navigate something that has always been a slight niggle in the past especially with a game that has as much depth as this.
They have added more depth this year than ever before and yet somehow they have made it feel not as intense or overwhelming for doing so.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Well I only ever play low league teams and I'm talking Conference North/South England level of teams. Never had much of a problem in 2011 and I'm running away with the Conference South this season in 2012 with Truro, getting to FA Cup first round (Preston beat me 2-1) and still in FA Trophy (January at the moment).
Playing a 4-2-4 so far this season though used to play a 4-1-3-2 a lot with my teams.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Well I'm in a little while into my attempt to promote a Blue Square Conference South team to the Premiership in England. I have chosen Truro for this task and I'm currently in my second season in charge.
First season went well I won the league by around 30pts with only dropping 20pts myself over a 42 game season, so a pretty good start to my task. I reach the FA Cup 1st round but was knocked out by Preston, while spurning a clear cut chance in the dying seconds while 2-1 down. I did win the FA trophy without to many problems completing the double from a potential treble.
Best signing was Mohammed Sylla the ex Celtic and Leicester winger and Fergus Bell (ex Hibs youngster) who I sold at the end of the season for 210k.
First season as a promoted side has went better than expected considering I made the mistake of not signing my better players on long term contracts. I ended up losing my top goalscorer from the previous season for nothing and one of my key centre backs due to the high wages they wanted. Mo Sylla went as well due to asking for to much cash. I did managed to keep my 3 other defenders and my 2 centre midfielders from the previous season along with my backup strikers. As a result I've had a decent enough core to work with.
16 games in to the season and I've lost one with two draws and fifteen wins leaving me currently top by maybe 5pts. Through to the first round of the FA Cup after playing a 4th round qualifier, the FA Trophy hasn't started as of yet so not started defending my title.
No big signings at all during the summer, a lot of youth on £5 a week youth contracts is keeping my wages around 5k a week at this time. Actually found this transfer window in a better league harder to attract better players than my first.
Quite happy so far and at this stage it looks like the Football League awaits.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Finished my 1st season as manager of Nottingham Forest and finished 5th losing to Burnley in the play off semi finals, but managed to reach both the FA Cup final and Carling Cup final( losing both to Chelsea), but as Chelsea finished in the top 4, it got me a place in the quailifiers for the Europa League(which I have qualified for. Ishmael Miller is a goal scoring machine on it.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Finished my second season in charge as Truro manager and can't be at all disappointed with how things have went so far.
I won the league in the end but only with two games of the season to go, I finished up with a pretty good 96pts after 46 games. It wasn't plain sailing, I had a dip in form around Nov losing a few players to long term injuries. This resulted in some undeserved narrow wins and a slow painful crawl towards Jan and the transfer window. Luckily I survived and brought in 6 new players (No big names) during the window to strengthening my squad for the second half of the season. This ultimately paid of with me winning the league without to many nervous moments, the form of the two chasing teams was just extremely good.
Again I was knocked out of the FA Cup via a 1st round exit at the hands of Stevenage, who are now a League 1 outfit in my game. I could say it was close but it wasn't, they had me in their pockets for the most part and went through as 3-1 winners.
I fell back on the old trusty FA Trophy to raise the spirits and it duly did giving me my second win in as many years. It was pretty standard this time around, not a hard game on route and the final was comfortable also. A 8-2 aggregate win against Cambridge in the Semi set me against Mansfield in the final who went down like lambs 4-0 come the final whistle. I really am going to miss this tournament now I'm no longer able to enter.
Two years in to the task and with back to back promotions coupled with successive FA Trophy wins I'd be a fool not to be pleased with my start. The Football League awaits and hopefully a season of consolidation (most of my team will still be on Part Time contracts next season), then building for the onslaught towards the Premiership.

Finished first season with the football superpower that is Aberystwyth. Lead them to their first ever Welsh League Title, won the Welsh equivalent of the League Cup and reached the quarters of the Welsh Cup before being knocked out by English Blue Square Premier side Newport County???
Signing of the season was Moses Swaibu on a free alongside Vincent Kompany's younger broth Francois. Hopefully with the appeal of Champions League football I can sign a couple extra better quality players.

Re: Football Manager 2012
Just finished my first season with Luton Town in the Blue Square Premier. Got to the 2nd round of the FA Cup, beating Nuneaton, giant killing Charlton and then being knocked out by the mighty Sheffield United, won the FA Trophy beating Grimsby. Lost the last three league games resulting in not being champions and finishing 3rd, but turned it around and ended up beating York City in the playoff final.
Re: Football Manager 2012
ive currently got oldham in the prem mid table. anyone finding the league cup really easy? i won it in the championship, every major team i played put there reserve team out probably thinking my team was rubbish because of there reputation. a season in the europa league helped my finances out and attracted a few good players

Is going to be a struggle i think, and i refuse to go down the route of keeping it tight for first 70 mins away from home

My Bristol City team survived the first season in the prem, 16th i think it was
Maynard finished 3rd highest goalscorer with 19
Ashton Gate being expanded to a 27,000 seater atm and should be finished 23rd November so more money coming in there.
New signings include the likes of Scott Dann to sure up my defense as well as Peter Crouch for added attacking power, just have to decide my line up now to whether include both Maynard and Crouch or go with last seasons formation and rotate..

Re: Football Manager 2012
my ususal tips is get your shortlist sorted with all the best young players/free transfers, save it so its nice and easy when you start a new game. can do the same for your training regimes
the other tip is when all the youth players come through (new on this game around march) go to player search maximum age of 17 and untick unrealistic players. it will then basically show all the best players to come through that year. use to always jump on brazil in january and was always guaranted a wonderkid in one of there teams (changed in this one though bit tougher and not sure when they come through). the other way is the same search then just highlight certain traits (tackling and marking etc for def). that way you get the obsure players from africa etc popping up at very low prices.

Re: Football Manager 2012
First Season with Liverpool. Onl;y get a £2mill tranfer budget.
Only signed Ganso for £27.5mill with £25.5mill over 48months.
Won the league by 3 points, very close and went down to the last game with United, with my second to last game being a 1-1 draw with them after being down to 10men for 80mins!
Lost FA Cup final to Wolves 1-0 being truthful they deserved to win.
Lost League Cup quater final to eventual winners Blackpool on pens after drawing 2-2 (they beat Everton in the final )
Applied and got Great Britain manager. Got to the final where I was smashed 5-2 by Brazil after being 2-0 up at half time. But Rooney and Chris Smalling were suspended for the final and I had to play Welbeck and Rodwell as I never had a sub CB!
Bale was immense and scored 12 goals for me. Which is why I signed him for £67mill!! Also bought Tevez for £10mill. Had received a £40mill transfer budget
7 games into my second season and am now 4th but only 3 points behind top after 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa. I have already lost the same amount of games in the league as I did all last year (2!!). Bale has been quality until he picked up a hip injury and is out for 3months Top of champs league group with 3 wins out of 3
Tevez bangs them in but he is moody
My Best Starting XI is
GK: Reina
DR: Johnson
DL: Enrique
DRC: Carragher
DLC: Agger
MC: Adam
MC: Lucas
AML: Bale
AMR: Suarez
AMC: Ganso
FC: Tevez
Adam won Player of the year. He is quality!
