Guilty pleasures
First topic message reminder :
Is there an album you love even though you know it's naff as hell? Let's put 'cool' to one side and be honest about things!
My guilty pleasure is Year of the Cat by Al Stewart. Good tunes, great musicianship, an excellent album all round, even though it's so middle of the road you can hear the white lines on it.

Dyre - that's really freaky...I was going to ask if anyone had that earlier, but thought better of it

The sci-fi influences don't worry me. The only thing I'd feel a little guilty about would be some of the photos of Geddy Lee on the earlier album covers

'Ride on Time' is okay, but it's not a patch on 'Touch Me' by the 49ers.

My youngest sister bought Sam Fox's album on cassette for her friend, who's also called Sam Fox. One of the tracks was called 'Hurt me, Hurt me (But The Pants Stay On).'

Poor old Sam - she wasn't stereotyped much. Other "hits" included "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" and a cover of Donna Summer's "Love To Love You" . Those who know the original will know what I mean....

Nearly as embarrassing as when she and Mick Fleetwood presented the Brit Awards. Shame really as she had a good voice and could have been more than a 1 album wonder if she'd been given some decent material.

Re: Guilty pleasures
That's true Dyre. If she'd had better producers instead of going to Stock, Aitken and Waterman, and her PR moved away from her Page 3 persona, she probably would've had a good singing career.

I was never a fan of hers, but I remember a Brit awards night when Gary Clunes and Neil Morrissey announced the winner - and despite having more or less the same surname, Neil Morrissey announced her as 'Alanis Mosirette!'

Re: Guilty pleasures
I sent this thread to Tasha Danvers the UK athlete who did a Q&A with us a few months back.
She was asking for cheesy songs.
She actually read the thread and said that she couldnt believe anyone would like S Club 7.
Shame on whoever it was.....

Re: Guilty pleasures
Tasha Danvers? Thats a very American-sounding name.
As a forfeit for embarrassing the 606v2 community, Hero has to listen to a compilation of the UK's Eurovision entries from the last decade.

Oh, speaking which...
Dunno if this counts as a guilty pleasure but I downloaded Lordi's Hard Rock Hallelujah (Finnish Eurovision winner from a few years ago).

Would've been a bit of a bummer if she'd moved out by the time he finished.
I'm probably going to destroy whatever reputation I may have had with these nominations:
Fleetwood Mac - Little Lies
Belinda Carlisle - Circle In The Sand
That look she gives the camera at around 1:41...simply smouldering!
T'Pau - China In Your Hand
What is it with me and redheads?

Re: Guilty pleasures
I can do better than that...I've got T'Pau's Bridge of Spies album with that song on! It's actually a very good album. Carol Decker had a good voice on her. I've also got Belinda's Heaven on Earth album, which has a great cover of I Feel Free on it.
Speaking of late '80s rock/pop cheese, I also have the Big Area album by Then Jericho...remember them?!

Re: Guilty pleasures
Kiss Shandi ... was a huge hit in Oz.
Suzi Quatro & Chris Norman Stumbling In annoyed me at the time
Promises Baby It's You ... still a guilty pleasure
Bonny Tyler Lost In France this was the first song I heard after my hamster died...
Pussyfoot The Way That You Do It ...this song used to drive people mad... and still does!
Noosha Fox S-s-s single Bed
The Moir Sisters Good Morning... How Are You? was another huge hit here. So annoying at the time. Get ready to cover your ears when they hit the high notes!

Steps - Stomp.
"Everybody clap your hands
Get on up and dance
We're gonna stomp all night now"
I challenge anyone who mocks me to listen to this song immediately on YouTube and then admit it's actually alright!

I never liked Steps - but that reunion program was a guilty pleasure of mine.
Also, listen to Stomp, then listen to "It's not war, just the end of love" by Manic Street Preachers - exactly the same tune

Re: Guilty pleasures
It's not the most PC album ever made that can be said. Still go in the pub were they haunted for many a year.
Re: Guilty pleasures
They should have put that on the album sleeve - it might have sold a few more!KingKenny7Heaven wrote:

I remember a video of theirs where they were jumping off a wall (in black and white possibly)
Re: Guilty pleasures
I remember at the time of buying it that everyone at school thought they were so rude , and if you listened to their tapes you were cool . Also remember being asked how old i was when i bought it as it had a censor sticker on it

Re: Guilty pleasures
They had a record shop in Macc too called the Hectic House, in there they put their own records in the section marked s***e.
When the Hectic House closed they moved across the street to their shop...
The Bell End Cheddar.

'I Touch Myself' is a great song, but I wouldn't class it as a guilty pleasure. What I would say is that I doubt it would've been a hit if a bloke had sung it...
