The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Stephen Jones photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Bring him to Rome and show him all the stuff they built is still there, so don't mess things up because the world would be a better place now of they didn't. We would probably have been to mars by the 15th century

Yea I asked it other way around. If you visited them what thing would you bring them. Here its about them experiencing something from our time. Like standing in the middle of a massive city.
Thomond - people LOVE putting the working classes on TV. . . aparently.

I'd sit him in front of a PC and show him the world via the internet. Can listen to music at the same time as well

Shouldn't that be someone from the 4th or 5th century instead?

I’d play him some music, take him to a match, and show him the advances in bikini line hair removal.
Dr Who did that with Van Gogh - he took him to the Van Gogh gallery. Still committed suicide though. Twas sad.
I personally would get Judas and Pilate and bring them to Waterstones and show them a potboiler called the Bible (in the Fiction section). I would show them that they are going to be remembered for being the ultimate pantomime villains.
Butterfly effect.........L Ron Hubbard book sales go up.....

Stag, there's a show with rich people from Chelsea and I wouldn't have thought Essex is an incredibly working class area.

Watching Storm v Dragons at work. Love this job. Have to say I thought the fuss they made over Billy Slater for his 200th appearance was a really nice touch. Came out met his kids and family and ran through a big banner with his name on it.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think he meant Chavs Thomond. There's a difference between Chavs and working class people.

Loads of people thought the world was round before it was proven. Of course, somepeople thought it was a flat disc sitting on the back of a turtle.
Maybe teaching them some of the fundamentals of modern science and medicine would mean we'd instantly get moved forward a few hundred years?

You are right a lot of reality shows are about working class people but I was just saying not all of them are.

Essex might not be working class but it certainly isn't D4.

Okay, here's a question, if you go into the past, do you change the future or has it already happened and everything stays the same?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, I'd definitely steer him clear of libraries, bookshops, TV and the internet. The last thing I'd want him to find out is what happens in the world between his time and now. How utterly demoralising would it be to know that there are centuries of warfare and massacre ahead of you.
Then again, isn't that what's likely to be ahead of us?
Happy Friday, everyone...

If we learned anything from Back to the Future,it's that you must stay away from your mother when you go into the past!

Munsty - I'm not a scientist and I'm not even going to attempt a discussion about it as I'd be out of my depth but as far as I'm aware no one has invented any sort of contraption that can physically take them back through time.

Munsty there is a great two part documentary about that. It's called Back to the Future. Really informative

I wasn't really talking about that Cari and I never believed it was possible. Just a hypothetical question.

Munsty if you physically go back into the past you are capable of changing the future yes. Time travel isn't possible though. Einstein proved that. Time viewing though has potential. Based on the idea that if you know the location of every single atom and it's direction and velocity you should be able to accurately predict their path. That whole 'every single atom' thing though is 1000s years away from being known. You'd need dozens of supercomputers and all sorts.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
If you step across the international date line you can go into the past.
Depending on what you do you would change the present by differing amounts. I don't believe that the butterfly effect would be as obvious as somepeople think, like when homer sneezes on a dragonfly and comes back to the present to discover that Flanders is the king of the world. If you shot Hitler (or something massivly significant) then maybe things would be different though.

One butterfly effect I've wondered is if Munster had won Heineken Cup in 2000 would we have enjoyed the near decade of good European campaigns after. Or would we have ended up like the flash in the pan lesser teams like Brive, Ulster, Northamtpon or Bath?

Does anyone here think it's odd, that people use "my" when referring to a team they support in a foreign league? I support Leeds in the championship but I would never use "my" as they are not really my team. Same with the NFL team I support.( I probably could use "my" as I spent a part of my life in that area)

Yes. Was it Mick who was telling us about his friend from Dublin who was unhappy to hear his son wanted to support Man Utd. He said "No he'll be a Scouse like his Dad".
And the blokes from Ireland.

But how can you support a team if you feel no affiliation towards the team??? Regarding yourself as one of them allows you to feel some Passion towards the team. Without it your just watching a bunch of lads run round a pitch and are emotionally closed off from the team
