The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Stephen Jones photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Kiwi - I think quite a few people will "anti-support" a team in the world cup.

I'm with you, I'll support whoever's playing Chelsea. In rugby I support whoever's playing Leicester.
We're like pea's in a pod on that one Luckless. Can't stand them.

Same with the anti team support thing, Kiwi.
I'm going for Melbourne in this one. Saints, Roosters are my anti-teams. Funnily enough I don't mind Souths who are our traditional arch enemies.

I don't know why I don't like Leicester. It's not because they've been a successful side, because Wasps used to be successful and I wasn't bothered.
With Chelsea, it's simply that they've bought their success and they're parvenus. Plus, John Terry is an ass. Plus, their fans singing 'Chelsea' to the tune of 'Amazing Grace' is one of the most boorish sounds in sport.

I know why Lucky, because they were the ones who introduced 'professionalism' into British Club rugby. And by that I don't mean paying players, I mean the idea that anything is fair game if you get away with it, no matter what the spirit of Rugby might require.

Either that or because Neil Back played for them.

I don't like South Africa. Several reasons. Bakkies Botha antics and the Schalk Burger eye gouge episode. The abrasive style they favour and Peter de Villiers. I don't all this talk about colour quotas and token coloured players etc. Just don't like the whole culture of SA rugby.

I nearly got urinated on at the old Stamford Bridge. What started as a trickle turned into a torrent.
I remember it cascading down the terraces... and this was even before Gerard Depardieu was really famous!
Never really liked them when they switched to champagne either...

Afternoon all,
I know what you are saying about SA Stag and I would have felt the same until a couple of years ago. I have a real soft spot for that country having spent my honeymoon there and having seen the way our Ulster Saffers conduct themselves I now have a very different view.
Those guys are some of the most gracious lads you could hope to meet.

I can't stand New Zealand ever since the lions tour of '05. That incident was handled appalingly by the authorities, and for the NZ players and staff to turn and go 'well it's a contact sport, people get hurt' made it all the worse.
BOD was effectivly assulted on the pitch in full view in a massive rugby match and there's been no retribution. There's an arrogance that runs through the team which ain't nice. They play pretty decent rugby though so that's something.

I love NZ rugby. I think that many of us Irish over played O'Driscolls injury. What did you expect NZ to say.
Did you see Heaslip's comments after getting a red card for intentionally kneeing McCaw in the head. Saying McCaw basically deserved it as he was infringing and he was amazed that the NZ public were treating him like a murder suspect.

Stag kneeing someone in the head in a ruck isn't the same as lifting someone up completely off the ball and firing them head first towards the ground. Besides Heaslip was rightly punished, have Umaga or Mealamu?
Mrs P justice is a form of retribution. The point is moot neither took place.

There's an ad up on the Bakerloo line platform of Charing Cross station for Chelsea corporate packages. "It's not just a prawn sandwich. It's a Chelsea prawn sandwich."
Just had a nice sausage and mash pub lunch watching the cricket. Every now and then Sky cut away to a shot of the London Eye, with Charing Cross station to it's left, and our work building on the right. So we were able to confirm the place wasn't on fire while we were out.
NZ as a country did react badly to the BOD incident - by the 1st test SCW had manage to completely alienate the NZ public to the point where they automatically argued the opposite of anything he said, regardless of what he said - so when he weighed in on the subject ... . An impressive effort considering that previous Lions tourists were feted up and down the country.

Ireland have plenty of time to get familiar with NZ. Toured there in 2010, touring there Rugby World Cup 2011, touring there 2012 to play 3 test games, provincial sides and the Maoris.
They'll be sick of the sight of the Irish

Hangover's gone, a bit tired still, and I'm stuck with the post-exercise aches and pains for the day I think.
My flatmate's 2 nephews (aged 2 and 4) are having a "sleep-over" in our lounge tonight so I'm going to try to force myself to stay out past their bedtime ...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I wish this bloody rain & wind would stop... I've got ghosts banging on my window. How rude!
I look at them Munsty - I've been to games in Tonga and Cook Is... the crowd does that high pitched wailing. It gets frenzied when there's a brutal tackle and even more so if it's a visiting Oz team (which it was) Scary to witness it. It makes you wonder how you're going to get out of the ground alive but then you see their happy smiling faces and you realise they are also very friendly people.
That's when you quietly slip out and look for your little moped chained to a tree out the back.

Hello,
Haven't been in for a while, collateral damage of large parties at a patriarchal age
Had a great time at the bash, and we are looking forward to more participants next year(avoid Belgian festivals0 We may change the date/formula, but that will be discussed in december for the Hardcore Weekend.
Slow build up to the RWC, with most NH nations keeping their cards close to heir chests.Tonga may be a surprise in the French group.
ASM play Scarlets this evening;they have 16 academy players announced(amongst the 27 for the game)We will be a force to be reckoned with ,when the 15 internationals get back.
Agen play Aironi this evening, but they want US season ticket holders to pay 10 yoyos entrance
Think I saw somewhere that Cari is Job hunting;if you need a break, ryanair to Bergerac, and we'll take care of the rest
Later
PS can we find the tennis smiley/ico for ASM?

Not good for Ireland. David Wallace gets injured. And young Lakafia from France is injured. They replacing him with Dusatoir.
