The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Stephen Jones photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Not still moping about are you Notch? Pull yourself together mun. You know what they say about falling off a horse - get straight back on. Preferably another horse (this is where the analogy falls short slightly) or you may get done for harassment.

The only way to get over someone is to get under someone else.

Moping about?
I've barely gotten out of bed. But this is not unusual when you post at 1 and then again at 10. You are quite right.

I shouldn't say this but I'm worried that Geordan will be selected for the Irish squad. Surely Ireland don't need him. He's a pensionable old man and likely to get broken again.

I'd say he is now a shoe-in. I know you'll miss him, but would you not be pleased for him at the same time a little bit?

He missed the last 2 world cups so it would be great for him personally to go.

Started in the decisive final group game against Argentina and scored a try.

Only because Notch describe him as a shoe-in which he's isn't (he's a shoo-in), I thought that I'd take a bit of time to research the etymology:
"And here’s one from The Word Detective, who has been writing about Words and Language in a Humorous Vein on the web since 1995:
‘Shoo in’, as it is properly spelled, was originally a racetrack term, and was (and still is) applied to a horse expected to easily win a race, and, by extension, to any contestant expected to win an easy victory. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the first use of the term in print dates back to 1928, and the original sense of the term was not as innocent as you’d think. A ‘shoo in’ was originally a horse that was expected to win a race, not by virtue of its speed or endurance, but because the race was fixed. The sardonic ‘subtext’ of the original usage, now lost, was that the designated horse would win even if it were so lackadaisical in its performance that it simply wandered somehow up to the finish line and had to be ‘shooed in’ to victory."
So there you have it - If Murphy gets selected it will be a fix!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Can't decide whether it's better to be near sure of your 30 or to have plenty of positions up for grabs? Perhaps it makes no difference?WillyGilly wrote:A lot of people have got into work this morning and surreptitiously opened an extra tab in their internet browser for breaking sports news and perhaps one for 606v2 as well. From an Irish perspective I genuinely couldn't name you our 30. For my part I have 23 in mind who have been sent their plane tickets and been told to pack. The other 7 spots are open to Mr Kidney's interpretation.

Well we have three real options at fullback, we probably plan to bring two fullbacks and one has just been ruled out of the tournament through injury. I'd say he's on the plane, but Kidney has a penchant for surprising people!
Asbo, did you ever watch that second half?

Cariadwr, try not to be too despondent - think of it like a practice essay, the second version is often better as you think of better ways of getting your message across

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Hello pub. I somehow managed to totally reboot my phone and lost texts and, more crucially, email. This has meant creating a new email address (eventually), which wouldn't allow me to login here.
All sorted now with 'The' dropped off my login id.
Cari, that is good advice from As although I can understand your frustration. I usually type such stuff in a Word document and then copy and paste it into the required area. That also has the advantage of spell check and grammar check.

No Greg Laidlaw or John Beattie in the Scotland squad. There's a thread on it over in the international section.
Think those two guys could have made a difference to them.

Cari. Try My Computer select C drive, right click select search. and then advanced search. Put in the dates surrounding the one that you put in the lost missive.
And refine the filter with any key words that you know you have used in the text.
That should bring back anything that your local PC has stored. (unless your IT dept wipes the lot remotely).
Worth a try...
