Saracens Thrash Leeds Empty Saracens Thrash Leeds

Saracens kept up the pressure on Premiership leaders Leicester with a crushing win over bottom side Leeds.

Michael Tagicakibau crossed as early as the second minute for the hosts, Alex Goode kicking the extras, the first of his 14 points.

Brad Barritt and James Short also went over before half-time, with Richard Wigglesworth sealing Sarries a bonus point just after the break.

Chris Wyles' solo effort late on heaped more misery on hapless Leeds.

Leeds, who parted company with director of rugby Andy Key on Thursday, have won just once in the Premiership all season.

But any hope of an upturn in fortunes was snuffed out when Leigh Hinton's clearance was charged down, Tagicakibau winning the race to touch down.

Six minutes later, Saracens rolled a maul towards the visiting line, Wigglesworth whipped the ball to his right and Barritt darted in between two defenders.

Leeds, who did not cross the halfway line until the 15th minute, were further punished by two Goode penalties before Short intercepted an Adrian Jarvis pass and raced clear to score under the posts.

With the game effectively over at the break, Wigglesworth ensured that Sarries' earned a crucial bonus point by taking the ball from the back of the ruck and spinning between two defenders to touch down.

Saracens had now done enough to ensure that Leicester's advantage at the top of the table would be back down to five points.

But there was still time for Wyles to rub salt into the Leeds wounds with a moment of magic.

The left wing gathered a pass from Neil de Kock in midfield before leaving six opponents in his wake en route to the line.
