Blackburn boss Steve Kean has agreed a £5million deal for Bosnian striker Vedad Ibisevic.

The Hoffenheim star had a medical on Thursday after Kean switched his search for more threat in front of goal to the highly-rated 27-year-old.

Rovers will pay around £3.5million for Ibisevic, a strong, 6ft 2in front-man who was born in Bosnia but fled that war-torn country for first Switzerland and then the USA's college-sports system.

Ibisevic will need a work permit, but that should be routine because he has over 30 international caps.

Kean has also lined up FC Dallas defender George John and enquired about Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury, Liverpool defender Danny Wilson and Manchester City's Nedum Onuoha.

Attacking midfielder Vukcevic, 25, had a medical on Thursday, ahead of his £2.5m move.

Kean will try again for Raul in January as owners Venky's seek a marquee signing.

He added: ‘He was anxious to give us a go and we were delighted with that. We were told he was disappointed not to come.

'It moves forward to the next window. If you can get a player of profile then great, but more important is a player that can still do the business, and he can.

'I don’t think it’s dead and buried.’

if you haven't seen much of german football and have no idea who he is, the man is a very talented forward and is a composed finisher
