Songs You Loved As A Kid
We all remember (just about!) our first introductions to the vast array of music out there. For me, music was a big deal from an early age. I spent most of my formative years without a television in our house (Mum was a very strict infant teacher who believed TV was bad for a child's education) but I was allowed my own radio from being 6 or 7 years old. A proper transistor radio it was too!
I had the radio on in the car the other night and heard a song that I haven't heard in donkeys years but it took me straight back to being that little kid with the transistor.
This is mine, what song takes you back?

I'd completely forgotten about that song. So 1978!
I remember hearing this one as a very young kid on the radio as we drove over the Gladesville Bridge c. 1971. Happy hippy child music!

Awh! Class thread! Music was really important to me too. Not coming from a well off background, music was cheap, accessible and a great escape. We always had records and a radio in the house and it was through my mum and older siblings, I discovered some great music, but I'm definitely an '80s child! I listened to a lot of stuff from earlier decades, but these songs just instantly remind me of my childhood.
The first record I bought was this, although I was partly persuaded by the amazing cover of the record sleeve:

This was my fave track on the first album I bought:

Christmas 1984...

My sister had this on 7" single and played it to death!!

My first major crush (Simon Le Bon ):

I also had the pleasure of discovering this band in 1984 thanks to my sister's record collection. I remember being mesmerised by this though:

I was born in 1990 so most of the stuff I listened to was the Space Jam soundtrack, Backstreet Boys and Nsync.

Awww...poor Steve.
As a kid I was a lot more into pop and mainstream rock. Here's a few I remember:
Adam and the Ants - Antmusic
Pet Shop Boys - Opportunities
Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al
Paul Hardcastle - 19
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes
Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right to Party

My taste went odd in my teens - I started listening to the legendary John Peel, and discovered loads of interesting indie bands through him. I was really into the "shoegazing" stuff (Dinosaur Jnr, Ride, My Bloody Valentine...).

Does anyone remember Paul McCartney's Frog Chorus? I bet he wishes we didn't, but I really liked it as a child!

Thats on my list of "most hated" songs.
*begins sticking pins in a Paul McCartney voodoo doll*
Then again, I'm no better. I quite liked Spitting Image's The Chicken Song

Bob Marley never did that song. It was originally Neil Diamond, then covered by Tony Tribe, Jimmy & The Vagabonds and most famously in the '80s by UB40. Was that the one you were thinking of?
Dyre - note: I liked it as a child. I think I'd shrivel up and die if I had to listen to it now. I haven't listened to it since I was little.

I heard ya Cari - but Frog Chorus annoyed me as a kid too. Plus I admitted to liking the Chicken Song...still do as a matter of fact...

Re: Songs You Loved As A Kid
The Chicken Song was genius to be fair. It totally took the pish out of novelty records and was a huge hit anyway. I didn't buy it, but I remember reading the lyrics in Smash Hits. Bizarrely I can still sing them now!
