So Bad It's Good!
Does anyone else love "bad" films, the cheesy kind that make you laugh for the wrong reasons? Some have gained almost cult status because of how popular they are to laugh at - like Troll 2, Birdemic, or The Room. Are there any personal favourites that you've enjoyed having a chuckle at? My all time favourites would probably include ZOMBIE LAKE, THE SWARM, SHARK ATTACK 3, MEGAPIRANHA, THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN and JAWS THE REVENGE just for starters.
I don't mean films that were bad and you didn't like them, or films that were over-hyped. Just the guilty pleasures that were fun because of their awfulness.
Youtube clip: Zombie Lake (in 2 minutes)

Good call on Jaws the Revenge!!
One of my faves is Hard to Kill.
I especially love Steven Segal's rambling speech about growing up in China and the reasons he learnt the art of pushing people over.
This coupled with his comedy post-coma beard make for a true slice of comedy gold.
If you watch the last scene when he is reunited with his son, marvel at the way his son runs down the stairs like some kind of ape.

I suppose these are more of guilty pleasures, but I own the following on DVD. They're all pretty cheesy:
Bad Influence.

Mannequin

Frankie & Johnny

it was starship from memory but cant remember the song title.
Jaws: the revenge is awesome.
I love everything aout the film - whats not to love about a film that has the offspring of the original shark out for revenge. It lays traps, travels 1000's of miles in pursuit and roars its way into our hearts.
And then blows up for no reason.
Great film!
My two suggestions would be Trancers and Let it Ride.
Both brilliant in their own way.

Conan the Barbarian is brilliant.
Again, so many unintentionally funny moments in the film, I was creased up laughing the first time I watched it.
I can't believe that some people think that it's actually good.

Re: So Bad It's Good!
Here's advance warning of a couple of great unintentionally funny films being shown on Friday this week.
BENEATH LOCH NESS (2001) - one of my favourites - is on Movies4Men at 5:20pm.
Scotland looks suspiciously like America, local accents are all over the place, underwater diver scenes are clearly filmed in a dry studio, Loch Ness has a coast guard (?) who seems to think he's a sheriff with powers to lock people up in his cells (?), and - oh I could go on. I LOVE this film!
TARZAN IN MANHATTAN (1989) is also on Movies4Men, at 8am.
In this film, the Ape Man appears extremely buff, waxed, has long designer hair, and looks exactly like a Chippendale. Oh and he has an American accent. His adventure takes him from his jungle home to "Noo Yawk" to rescue Cheetah the Chimp, where he encounters a pretty but scatty female taxi driver.
If you like cheesy movies that will make you laugh, either of these are worth setting the recorder for!

Weird Science

NOt quite.
They spear the shark with the front of the boat. Thats what makes it inexplicably explode.

Now the subject has moved to sharks I'd put Deep Blue Sea into the hat for so bad it's good.
From the moment the chisel jawed winkle of a lead man rides a Tiger Shark dolphin at Seaworld style I know I was in for a cheesey 90minutes.

*SPOILERS*
Apparently there are 2 different endings depending on which version you have on DVD or TV. The one I know is where the pointy thing on the front of the boat 'pops' the shark as if it's a giant balloon (as well as the shark roaring like a lion, HOW does it manage to "stand up" in the water?!) causing it to explode into a lot of recycled footage from the first film. And one of the characters we saw being killed by the shark earlier, miraculously turns up alive at the end (apparently test audiences didn't like him being killed off). Quality movie!
Here's a link to the ending on YouTube

So it wasn't the fact the sharks were smart enough to figure out how to break into the complex and get through the perimeter fence, but apparently were confused by lifejackets with air canisters attached to them?
I actually thought it was quite decent. Typical, flawed B-movie fare, but I wouldn't say it was so awful it was good. I'd reserve that kind of judgement for something like 10,000BC.

Re: So Bad It's Good!
There's not just a shark theme developing here, but an exploding shark theme.
Jaws
Chief Brody shoots scuba tank lodged in shark's mouth...SPLAT!
Jaws 2
Chief Brody electrocutes the shark with an undersea cable...SIZZLE!
Jaws 3D
Hero reaches into the shark's mouth (while its wedged in the seaworld control room) and unhooks the pin from a grenade, still clutched in the dead hand of expert shark hunter...SPLAT!
Jaws: The Revenge
Ellen Brody spears shark with ship's bowsprit (the pointy thing at the front). Stomach full of gas or anothe scuba tank? End result...SPLAT!
Deep Blue Sea
Hero's sidekick harpoons escaping shark (and shark-riding hero) with explosive charge and detonates it...SPLAT! Shark riding hero miraculously survives.

"10,000 BC"..? How about "100 MILLION BC"? A film from The Asylum - famous for their low-budget 'Mockbusters'. This one has Christopher Atkins (The Blue Lagoon), some time-travelling military types, and a giant dinosaur running around the modern-day city. It tends to get shown on SyFy or Movies24 quite often.
See the trailer for 100 Million BC here

I have a soft spot for hilariously bad shark movies! Here are some others in my collection.
(I've already written reviews for some on my website, so I've put links to those if anyone's interested.)
There are probably loads of others, I'd love to know if anyone has seen any of these, or any others.
(I've already written reviews for some on my website, so I've put links to those if anyone's interested.)
- SHARK ATTACK 3 (2002) - with THAT line, and almost cult status as a bad film
SHARK IN VENICE (2008) - killer shark terrorises Venice - starring a Baldwin brother
RAGING SHARKS (2005) - killer sharks, with space aliens too!
JAWS 3 (1983) - originally filmed in 3D, starring Dennis Quaid
SWAMP SHARK (2011) - deep water shark gets into swamps (my review here)
MEGA SHARK VS GIANT OCTOPUS (2009) - starring 80s Pop Princess Debbie Gibson
SHARK ZONE (2003)
SPRING BREAK SHARK ATTACK (2005) - shark attacks scantily clad jello-wresting co-eds in Florida (my review here)
SHARK SWARM (2008) - starring Daryl Hannah
MALIBU SHARK ATTACK (2009) - hot lifeguards, a tsunami and prehistoric goblin sharks
DINOSHARK (2010) - defrosted prehistoric shark attacks (my review here)
SHARKTOPUS (2010) - ok, only half shark - and half octopus!

90s techno makes you glad a decade only lasts 10 years.
Also, if you think Starship Troopers was bad, you have GOT to see the sequels. They're so bad, they have to be seen to be believed!
I'd also say that while the original Highlander was a good movie, the sequels were pretty naff.

Watched a few recently, for reviewing, which I enjoyed.
BUGS (2003) with Antonio Sabato Jr fighting giant prehistoric scorpions in a half-built underground train tunnel.
THE BRAIN (1988) involving a disembodied giant man-eating brain that gives people hallucinations of hot topless nurses.
THE MUMMY THEME PARK (2000) where a rich sheik sets up a Jurassic Park type theme park - except it's ancient mummies being brought to life and attacking visitors, not dinosaurs. And some of the worst special effects I've ever seen.
I loved all 3, and my reviews will be up on the blog soon if anyone's interested (the Bugs review has already been uploaded here).

Some that I've found really (unintentionally) funny are TROLL 2, SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS, HOBGOBLINS, MERLIN'S STORE OF MYSTICAL WONDERS, and THE BARBARIC BEAST OF BOGGY CREEK PART 2. There just aren't enough films with men in tatty gorilla suits, or little people in goblin masks.
Has anyone else seen any of these, by the way?
Some are really hard to get hold of in the UK, unfortunately. And some others are just bad in a 'bad' way. But it'll be interesting to see what else the list turns up!

Shark Attack 3 is a spectacularly bad but great film. As is Shark in Venice.
Other's I would recommend are:
Lake Placid
Lake Placid 3 (forget 2 its pants)
Walk Like A Man
Back To The Beach
All so bad yet so good.

Re: So Bad It's Good!
On TV last night - Driven
Sly Stallone as an Indy Car racer, Burt Reynolds as the wheelchair-bound team boss.
The whole film was the biggest pile of trash, and the race sequences were beyond ludicrous. Definitely well into the so bad it's funny category.

Had a busy couple of weeks, but finally uploaded my review of this 80s cheesefest (at http://badfilmfriday.com/the-brain-1988/ if anyone is interested). I picked this up at a Cash Generator shop never having heard of it before, but it's become one of my favourites!

The Condemned
Steve Austin is the good guy and Vinnie Jones is the bad guy. It has a plot similar to The Running Man. There's dodgy special effects and cheesy lines. Man, it was good!
