Club Champion!
Well, after many years of failing I have finally managed to achieve one of my biggest goals; winning the club championship.
AM round of 69 placed me 2 shots off the lead, then another 2 shots back to the guy in third. We went out last in the afternoon and I held it together for a 72 to win by 1. Felt for the guy who was leading though, he is a young promising player and had a 1 shot lead on the 18th tee after birdie on 17, he felt the pressure and doubled the last after being just off the green in two.
Played nicely and the key was limiting the errors, 6 bogies and 5 birdies in 36 holes.
Golf is an odd game, I had little confidence and hadn't practised much going into the tournament, but everything just felt right and it clicked.

Cheers guys.
Well not so much 'young' anymore kwini! Nice to have my name behind Gary's on the honours board. (pity he couldn't finish it off yesterday, but another good result, glad to see Fisher win though).

Great stuff Goldie, will this give you a renewed enthusiasm for the game? I remember for a while back in the old 606 days you mentioned you had become a little despondent about the game.
Have you made changes to the swing this season or did things just fall into place this week? I always remember how good your swing looked when you posted it on youtube.
Will this win qualify you for any regional events and where does it leave your handicap?
PS. Feel free to make a little victory speech about how the lord was with you all the way round.
PPS. How did you celebrate this great win?

Top man Goldie, really pleased for you. Good to shoot decent scores to achieve it as well.

Re: Club Champion!
Hi Mac, yeah I had fallen out of love with the game about a year ago, but there were other things on my mind that weren't helping, that's all sorted now so I'm enjoying life and my golf a lot more now.
I have changed a few things since that video, slowed my swing down a bit and now I don't turn the hips as much through impact, it's illiminated the block (with the odd exception!).
Everything just clicked yesterday, my short game was great, especially putting which has always been my weakness. I think it helped having no expectations this week too, I felt no pressure at all, all day.
I qualifiy for a county 'Champion of Champions' event, which is al the club champions from the county in an 18 hole event. Should be fun.

Super GW! Winning the club championship has to rank up there near the top for what one hopes to accomplish in their golfing lifetime.

Well done Goldie - It wasn't that long ago that you actually said you were seriously considering jacking it in and even offered your fli hi to me at a bargain price. I s'pose this means the deal is off!!
Still, club champ eh - that really is something.

Brilliant stuff Goldie! I went down to play Minehead with a good mate of mine a while ago. Little did he know, but both his grandparents were members back in the 1950s and you could see how proud he was to see them both on the honours lists for ladies and men's sections and the biggest thrill was seeing his grandad as club champion on more than one occasion. You have achieved something that most of us could only dream about. Well done to you sir

Re: Club Champion!
Thanks guys.
Yeah noshanking, the bit I'm most pleased about is getting my name on that board, there's some very good players on there, most of them are + figure handicappers, so to have mine alongside them is a real achievement.
Sorry oldshanker, the fli hi is staying, it was the club I used to hit the shot of the day with; 230 yards to 2 feet

Re: Club Champion!
For the first time ever, I decided not to keep a track of scores (leaders went out together). Obviously, I knew my score and that I needed par on the last for a 141 total, but I had no idea where I stood with regards to winning, if I had to guess I would have said I was 2 or 3 behind playing the last, as it happens it was only 1. The guy who was leading had my card so knew exactly what the situation was. I was a tad embarrassing as I had no idea I had won until I shook his hand and he said congratulations.
I'm not saying that's the only reason but it was definitely one of the reasons. In fact the club champs is the only tournament that this would work in, as all others are all 18 hole events!

Congratulations GW. Always nice to get your name on the board along with some of the top players.
Do you get many repeat or multiple winners?

Yep, tour pro Gary Boyd won it every time he was able to enter it! I came runner up to him on his last win before turning pro, only 11 shots between us!1GrumpyGolfer wrote:Do you get many repeat or multiple winners?
