"I'd prefer Liverpool to Manchester City, but would need to see both offers," Coates told Ovacion.
Oh dear. Will Man City ever be satisfied with their already bloated squad? Is there any international player they are not interested in? Heskey maybe.

Re: coates
Don't know too much about him myself, other than watching him at the Copa America, but according to all the articles I've read on him he'll be an absolute steal at that price.
Gary Cahill was my preferred choice as I'd like someone with Premier League experience who can slot straight into the team if need be, and if we get Coates he might take time to settle (then again he could do a Suarez and look like he's played in the Premier League all his career).
I suppose though for the asking price of Cahill we could get Coates AND Scott Dann, or is that being a bit too greedy?

Agree, he looked good when he came in at the Copa America. Hadn't really heard of him before, except seen him on Football Manager, thought he was a lot older as well.

I was sent a link to liverpoolfc.tv and it says on there Coates is signed sealed and delivered for 7 million deal done . Still think either Cahill or Dann will be brought in aswell .

If we could get both for combined 15 million that would be fantastic business.

If we can get £15 pounds for the ten least performing members of the squad I'm happy.

First time for everything mate...
He is huge this Coates guy... 6"6 and mobile... good win for Liverpool today as Bolton are strong and they made them look very poor... Starting to think Liverpool could maybe do slightly better than I thought this seaosn and actually challenge... Was just thinking a top 4

Re: coates
There seems to be a belief within the squad , loved the way Adam had a right go at Skrtel and Carra at the end for poor defending for Boltons goal .
Coates is young quick and like you say at 6"6' he's a big unit , hopefully another good signing by Kenny.

Do wonder how they'll be fairing closer to Christmas and January though when it starts getting a bit harder for them

Re: coates
Carroll seems a bit injury prone in honesty and wonder if the new boys will keep up the good work... Other than that really Liverpool look pretty set in honesty.
Got to just wonder how good are they? Granted they beat Arsenal at the Emirates though they are going through a slight turmoil and where a man down when both goals went in... Didn' quite get the gauge of as to how much they have improved, though most certainly improved they have. (Sounding like Yoda)

To be fair it ain't like Torres was firing on all cylinders... Plus you made £15 out of the deal... For a striker thats scoring, gives a different dimension and will most certainly improve! Not the worst deal really...

It's an almost certainty he was at the Liverpool game today and a very good convincing win probably helped aswell.

I always thought that Suarez and Torres would have been as good a partnership as Rush and Dalglish were. If only Dalglish had been given the job at the start of last season he could have persuaded Torres to stay.KingKenny7Heaven wrote:If only Torres had stayed what a front 2 they would have been

Im amazed he only cost £7mil that's a steal compared some of the silly price's being touted about for average English player's. Gary Cahill £20mil, Coates £7mil

Re: coates
Just shows how infalted prices for Britsih players are.
Here we have Liverpool buying a promising, but establised International defender for £7m, Arsenal an established international defender, with his best years ahead of him for £6m.
Yet incredibly, Bolton are insulted by a similar offer for a fledgling Cb, who has proved very little other than that he is understudy to Rio and JT.
Mental I tell the!

Completley agree prices for British players are ridiculous ....
it's being reported Leighton Baines has been given permission to leave the England cap to sign for an un-named premier league club for 16 million !!
Arsenal have just signed Santos for 6 mill , Liverpool got Enrique for 5 mill so how on earth is Baines worth 16 million ?

My guess is that he is going to sign for Man U or Suprs, but we shall see

Re: coates
The prices for English players is way above market! But with the Uefa rule where you need at least 8 trained in England and 4 trained at your club between the ages of 15-21. This makes them more of a commodity.

Re: coates
First team squad now has 13 defenders (out of 32 players). Keeping Skrtel, Agger, Carragher and now Coates, I think we can let some of them go out on loan.

Think with the squad going down to 25 for the premier league and no european football there will be a few loaned out .

Re: coates
Will Coates get a Bapistism of fire and thrown in against Crouch away to Stoke? Not the best place to make your debut.
I think his first game will be in the cup against Brighton. Thoughts?

Yeah me too , Crouchy is an handful and Stoke isn't a easy place to visit . I'd bring him on slowly Carra Agger and Skrtel are playing well enough so no need to rush him .

Carragher is getting his coaching badges. I think he'll stick around. Plus positioning is key. Yes he made an error in the run up to the Bolton goal, but he got back and took the ball off Petrov. It was bad luck it came to Klasnic. Where was the right back?

Carra still reads the game well , Coates needs to learn the Liverpool style of play which being around Carra will help . Carra will go onto the coaching staff imo.

Re: coates
Those of you who think Coates is quick may be in for a bit of a shock... he certainly isn't very quick or especially mobile.
This isn't to say it will be a terminal flaw in his game, though it may mean that Liverpool have to play deeper when he is in the team to prevent him getting exposed.
He was excellent for Uruguay though there were a few factors in this:
- played alongside Lugano
- deep lying defence
- screening defensive midfield
Hopefully (for Liverpool and Coates) they will be careful about when they play him as the English league is very different from what he knows in South America in terms of the pace and style. If he can get to grips with it, the team's tactics are planned properly and he can be paired with a vocal centre half (preferably with some pace) then he has every chance to learn and develop into a top quality player.

This is well worth a read for all the Liverpool fans who want a bit of insight into him.
Seems to be consistently praised as a good bit of business by Liverpool, not least for the resale value of someone so young should it not work out!
