V2 Golf Census

This part of the forum is fantastic and you should be proud of what you have created here in the short space of time its been up and running.

I am running a census of how many posters on here are actually golfers - it will help with negotiations with clubs should we are able to achieve it going forward.

Just hit the yes button if you actively play.

Hobo.. This is going very much down the 100% route here... and I think you'll find that it remains such. With one or two exceptions pretty much every regular poster on 606 and those who have migrated across are keen regular golfers. Some are not members of clubs and some only play socially... but there are a good % who are also very competitive.

LJ - I think the point is to count how many golfers there are posting here on 606v2 - not to differentiate between how many are golfers and non-golfers. Hobo is just trying to get a feel for how many of the total 606v2 members are regular readers/posters/participants in the golf section

Davie I would think you could just do a count of the number of distinct poster names in the golfing section and that would be pretty close. Not that this is a bad idea... just that I think a lot of people won't bother voting.

113 topics, 2135 post. You wanna go through and count 'em all? :-P

No... But I would think there is a database behind this.

so something like

select distinct username from forumname where forumname = 'Golf'

or something similar should give you a reasonable idea. Failing that there must be some analytic tools behind it all giving number of posts, poster names and the like in the same way that we have stats on our user pages.

Yes OK I know what you mean. A simple SQL query would do it - but remember this is essentially a free forum software product, hosted by forumation and the only thing the admins/owners pay for is to remove the adverts and to have our own URL

On free forums such as this, you just don't get that sort of analytical too. If it was a bespoke forum, hosted by us then I could knock up enough analytical scripts to make your head spin, but you've got to remember that we don't have full tools to work with here.

SQL programmer? Nah. That's just something I do in order to not go through my IT department. 10 days to get me information is not acceptable! :606laugh:

hang about, why don't we ask Kwini to write a piece on the subject :606laugh: There mustbe something like an SQL in the background that looks at GOLF - MEMBERS which should be enough or drilled down further by POSTS

We know for a fact there we have 60 members on the 606 contact list, and would hazard a guess that the majority have moved over here. We also know we've got some new people on this site, so probably at least 60 in total as a rough estimate.

Unfrotunately i can't run an SQl script as we don't have access to the database but i might be able to find some info for you another way.

There must be something on each forum that gives you something though?

We have the number of posts and the number of threads... so the site may well provide a unique number of posters. And it will probably be a bit more accurate than this as you will have a full set rather than those of us bothered to respond.

To show you what I mean this has had 106 views when I clicked into it and only 16 votes.

It's pretty basic in there, but i've tried another tactic, just waiting for something to enable then i might be able to dig a little further.
