Wales to get a semi
First topic message reminder :
Back in August 2007 i joined the original 606,my first article i published was on how Wales will not get out of the group,
i got shot down by my fellow country men for my comments and surprisingly got a lot of agreement off the English contingent.
Any how to my pain i was right.
Now four years on i am going to put my neck out again and im backing Wales to equal their all time best and reach the semis and win the third place play off.
My optimistic yes its optimism because how can you argue an event that hasn't happened yet?
is based on Wales finally having a back bone, Wales have finally show what has always been a missing ingredient some real dog and desire to push for the cause,We have had a good pack for a while now and have backs to finish the job but the mental frailty was always evident all teams had to do was just squeeze us and rush us then we made mistakes and they lived of them, not anymore.
COME WALES.

luckless pedestrian actually previous tournament performances are a pretty good marker. In every tournament. No one ever says England in football will ever win an international tournament any time soon because their record is appalling.
Also it helps to look at the pools too.
England are the highest ranked side in their pool. Topping the pool is not a foregone conclusion but much easier than for Wales.
Wales have a very tough pool. Their record against South Africa shows that match will be very hard. Samoa and Fiji will fancy their chances against Wales though you would expect Wales to triumph.
Realistically Wales will lose to Australia in the quarter finals.
Wales are capable of beating Australia or South Africa but it is unlikely.
England have beaten every 6 nation side this year including Ireland and Wales away.

Good luck to you, i think you'll make the quarters for what its worth. But to get a semi you'll need to get more balls in hand surely? You say you have a decent pack that that wasn't much in evidence against England at least in the set piece, are you relying solely on Adam Jones to change all that? Its a big ask for him if so.

But back to the World cup, and lets look at the relative efforts of all the Home countries since 1987 and combined Wales, Scotland and Ireland have 1 semi- final in 87 to brag about, while England have won the Cup and been in 2 other finals and semi's, so i ask you, who is more likely to do well. Actually don't bother, just revel in your combined mediocrity. Bye!!
I don't know who is more stupid, you for posting such drivel, or RubyGuby for taking the bait.

All you have to do is throw out some bait - its quite easy. I just managed to catch a Great White on here, I'll think I'll throw him back now though, it's more humane

Ruby, you're so thick, you probably sit at the back of the bus on the way to the DSS because you think you get a longer ride.

Ok that's enough fun for now let's get back to the rugby. I of course bow to your superior intellect and your ability to practice the theory of cognitive dissonance to an expert level when appraising your nations past results. That perception is likely to keep you in excellent psychological health for the future where any defeat (god forbid) will be treated as a minor hiccup as opposed to a disaster. GW, Ruby, I know you're having fun but do please drop the personal insults.
They don't exactly show any a lot of "intellectual" superiority after all

Supporting your team is great. But bigging them up before SA and Samoa is a trifle well, silly.
England playing poorly could have won by at least 3 or 4 points with no tries if they had elected to kick their goals. Its not really sensible to talk about having a 'semi' after that. It wasn't worth it.

Re: Wales to get a semi
Oh dear, have I really just read an Englishman trying to school someone else on fiscal responsibility? That hilarity aside, Wales should of course have aspirations of a semi (no pun) but I think SA's ferocity will come as a surprise to them early on and Aus I can only see improving as time goes on. Realistically, Wales will need the pill for the majority of the game to have a decent crack at it.

Re: Wales to get a semi
During my recent holiday I spent a very enjoyable night chatting to a Welsh couple from Cardiff.
We talked about the game from the amateur era and all the Welsh wizards, through to present day from club to international level.
The two things that were absolutely certain in their minds were that the Blues should return to the "Park" and that Wales had no chance against South Africa.
I agreed on the first point, but I do believe that they were wrong on the second, I think Wales have a good chance against SA, not favourites for sure, but closer matched than they have been for some time.
Get off to a win in the first game and you could be right View.
Good luck.

Wales to get to the Semi.
Well, I guess any thing is possible this is the Rugby World Cup after all.
Even though i do agree with Shane Williams, Wales are the fittest they have been for a long time now.
But in all hoensty even though Wales are fitter than they have been for a good few years now, they are still playing that same type of rugby now.
That is "CATCH UP RUGBY" if Wales are to get to thye semi final, they will have to play a lot better than they have in this years 6ns and the summer warm up games.
Wales cannot afford to go into half time 20+ points down, Wales maybe fitter now than this time last year, BUT, but being fitter is no garentee that you are better for it.
The whole team of Wales might beable to run at full tilt for Eighty minutes, but if they want to get to the semis, they will have to play for the full eighty minutes.
But like i said any thing can happen.
So good look to the Welsh team.

'Wales to get to the semi'
I have to say that it does have a certain ring to it, like 'Des 'o' Connors greatest hits' which is also a shrewd title, and one that makes non-believers want to break something.
I really don't know what i've done wrong, as i was merely trying to be public spirited and spare a few million Welsh supporters their usual dose of World cup Heartache. Anyhow good luck to Wales, they'll need it!!

Re: Wales to get a semi
Just a comment on part of the original article...
"based on Wales finally having a back bone, Wales have finally show what has always been a missing ingredient some real dog and desire to push for the cause,We have had a good pack for a while now and have backs to finish the job but the mental frailty was always evident"
I haven't read back on all the posts, but you are obviously not old enough to recall the Welsh team of the 70s and early 80s. They had backbone, real dog and not a lot of 'missing ingredients'.
As an Englishman, but more so a rugby fan, I loved watching Wales play in that era.
Wales should get out of their pool comfortably this time.

wales have a good 1 to 15 and if we keep every one fit and gethin gets back we should certainly make the quarters and possibly the semis.
If we lose adam j, warburton, hook then we are in the mire.
fingers crossed time!

There's a lot of truth here. We still start games as if we're waiting for something to happen, instead of seizing the game and making something happen for ourselves. I don't know why this is, but you're right that we can't afford to start our World Cup games in this strangely passive way.
