England vs India - T20
First topic message reminder :
(From Cricinfo)
Team news
With the probable selection of Alex Hales at the top of the order, England are set to field their 19th opening partnership in 38 Twenty20s.
The bowling attack is set to have a familiar look to it, with Jade
Dernbach's performance in a rain-reduced game against Ireland having
cemented his value in the shortest form of the game. Jos Buttler, who
once again demonstrated his big-hitting credentials for Somerset on
Twenty20 finals day, could find himself squeezed out of the reckoning by
fellow newcomer, Ben Stokes.
England: (possible) 1 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 2 Alex Hales, 3
Kevin Pietersen, 4 Eoin Morgan, 5 Ravi Bopara, 6 Ben Stokes / Jos
Buttler, 7 Samit Patel, 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Stuart Broad (capt), 10 Graeme
Swann, 11 Jade Dernbach
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Dravid's debut coincides with the end of Gautam Gambhir's tour. He has
not been himself since thwacking his head on the Oval turf while
dropping Kevin Pietersen in the fourth Test, and has finally bowed out
with a concussion. Parthiv Patel, the diminutive wicketkeeper who first
made his name on the 2002 tour of England, is set to open the innings,
with the twin spin attack of Amit Mishra and R Ashwin also likely to get
an outing.
India: (possible) 1 Parthiv Patel, 2 Rahul Dravid, 3 Virat Kohli,
4 Rohit Sharma, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 MS Dhoni (capt / wk), 7 Amit Mishra, 8
R Ashwin, 9 Praveen Kumar, 10 Munaf Patel, 11 R Vinay Kumar

Pitch and conditions
Old Trafford had a reputation as being one of the quickest decks in
world cricket, until the square was rotated as part of the ground's
redevelopment. Since then, the pitch conditions have been somewhat
subcontinental, although that didn't aid Sri Lanka in their
ODI-series-deciding loss earlier in the season. The weather, ever a
factor in Manchester, is set fair. Which is nice.

Re: England vs India - T20
It will take them 1/2 overs to get properly in though and Eng have all the momentum behind them now. Not sure I agree with the short tactic at Raina...

Re: England vs India - T20
smashing us again.. they could walk to 200 playing like this.. painful day again for the young England captain.
Still, the indian fans have paid a lot of money for their train ticket/bus/shoes to follow their team, they deserve some luck.

Spin back on with two new batsmen in? I would have given Bresnan an over seen as Indians play the spin so well.

Raina may aswell have done that in the Test series! That was absolutely crunched!

Re: England vs India - T20
that was a huge, if these two stay in it'll be big big big. get one and who knows. feel sorry for eng really , genuinly as batting second again lost them this i fear.. India blew it in the test series but they can cope with this form and it shows.
still, you never know.

Re: England vs India - T20
I like the captaincy again from Broad there. Swann's gone for just two off five balls so he pushes mid-wicket back to the edge of the circle to protect the boundary.

Raina is looking very good here. Completely different player to the one we saw in the Test series.

Will someone bowl a yorker! I have seen about one attempted yorker all innings!

Bresnan bowling really badly, what's wrong with the odd full delivery?

Well said! It really is ludicrous, whats the most effective ball in in T20? Yorker.
Stop bowling short!
Re: England vs India - T20
Dhoni gone
Hales almost dropped it.
Is Jade only going to bowl slower balls?

Ashwin walked down the pitch and Raina was like hells no!
Raina and Praveen, this could still be 180+

shocking stuff from England, never got their lengths right on this pitch, needed to be so much fuller it's untrue

Re: England vs India - T20
Two full(ish) balls in a row from Bresnan?
Never though full length/yorker length balls would work...
And now back to short balls... Have our bowlers never played t20 before?
Sky being so biased its untrue

Re: England vs India - T20
Slower ball and relatively full length...
Jade bowling well.
165-170ish is way too much for us I fear

Re: England vs India - T20
And Dernbach wraps it up nicely, England finishing strongly and India finish on 165, considerably less than they looked on for but a fine score none the less

Re: England vs India - T20
yep but they wouldn't have after 11 overs or so. It was pretty clueless batting by their tail I must say...

Re: England vs India - T20
India definitely favourites at halfway stage. Although should have been more than 165. I think I heard the average score at Old Trafford in domestic games this year was 139, so 165 is great!

Re: England vs India - T20
but you'd have to say JD that England's batting is better than the average team seen at OT this year, whereas I'm not sure the same can be said about India's bowling. Also they're going to have to get through four overs of Raina and Kohli, and that's assuming their four main bowlers fire. I think it's nicely poised, though India are on top

Re: England vs India - T20
2 of India's debutants did well, a 38 year old youngster who just proved a point, although there was nothing for him to prove to anyone, and another one who came through by doing the hard yards in first class cricket, and not through the glams of the IPL.
Ravichandran Ashwin, over to you man!.

Re: England vs India - T20
KP's record is very good in T20 cricket, unlike ODI cricket in the last 2 years! And MFC, true but I think England will struggle withouy any real pace on the ball! Bowlers like Munaf and Praveen will be very hard to get away expecially as England prefer faster bowlers. Then Ashwin will turn the screw in the middle overs aswell.

Think Dhoni should have given Ashwin the new ball in place of Vinay.

Half an hour of KP, 165 will look a rather small total. Get him early, and we will have a contest.

Decent from Praveen so far, Munaf and Vinay too need to keep it tight. Think Ashwin to Kieswetter should be an intereesting contest.

Horrendous start from Munaf Patel. Already undid all of PK's early good work.
