Studio Ghilbi Empty Studio Ghilbi

Post by Mickado Wed Aug 31, 2011 10:26 am

I’ve recently been watching some movies made by Studio Ghilbi. At first I wasn’t keen but with an open mind I must say I’m really enjoying them.

So far I’ve seen Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle, with My Neighbour Totoro and Porco Rosso next up on the list.

Has anyone else seen any of them? What do you think? Are there any more that you would recommend?

You owe it to yourself to see:

Ponyo
Spirited Away

Other good ones are:
The Cat Returns
Kiki's Delivery Service
Whisper of the Heart

My girlfriend loves them so I've seen most of them. They really are brilliant.

I really enjoyed Howl's Moving Castle, which I saw randomly on New Year's Day on terrestrial tv. I'd like to check a few more out, so thanks for the reccomendations.

Porco Rosso was my favourite, but I've seen Princess Mononoke, Ponyo, The Cat Returns, Nausicca (highly recommended, too!) and I'm sure a couple of others.

My girlfriend really loves them and so do I really, they're just good films, animated or not!

Nausicca is definitely worth a watch.

Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are just great, great films. Everyone has their own tastes in movie genres, but occasionally a great film comes out that just transcends barriers like that.

Hayao Miyazaki is a genius.

Oh, how could I forget; you must watch Grave of the Fireflies. Thats definitely not one for children. It's been called the animated equivalent of Schindler's List. Deals with two kids who are orphaned during the Kobe firebombings at the end of World War 2.

It's a bit grim, but it's also a feicing great film.

It's going on the list Notch. Although we were watching Inglorious bas... Last night and I had to turn it off before the first scene started because she found it so tense! Ha! Col Landa is an epic villain but I didn't think he was that epic!

Watched my neighbour Totoro last night. It's a kids movie but it's really good, i kept thinking something really sinister was going down, but it's just a happy tale.

I must keep an eye out Dicey, I've seen a good few of them at this stage. It's good lazy Sunday viewing, on the couch, with a blanket on and a feeling of "oh crap, i should be cristmas shopping" stuck in the back of the mind! ha!

Spotters badge for him!! Never copped that one.

Watched Elf last night, perfect kids Christmas movie, the fact that I don’t have kids is irrelevant. I was all over it!

I didnt either, He loved My Neighbour Totoro (as did I) but my older kids didnt that much as it is obviously aimed at the younger kids

Huh? I dont remember Thundercats being a Studio Ghilbi product

I watched Tales from Earthsea on Friday, it was a bit of a pointless film TBH and I can see why the author of the books would be peed at it too
