2011 Regular Season Analysis
See Spoiler Below for Regular Season Analysis
- Spoiler:
- New York Bulls (12-1) - First Three Picks: - A.Rodgers, F. Jones, D. Jackson.
Drafted Players on Final Roster: 7/15 - 48 Waiver Moves - 2 Trades
Clearly the class act of the league. Any team that goes 12-1 in a competitive league deserves major credit... even if it has Aaron Rodgers. Scored the most points (by a whopping 0.5pts over The Stormbringers!), conceded the fewest so no complaints. Lost in week 3 to Team Tebow and was rarely challenged from there until the final couple of weeks when the Injury to Fred Jackson caught up with him. This despite some high picks that didn’t pan out, exemplified by an early season trade of F. Jones and D. Jackson for P. Hillis… did anyone win that one! Star pick was probably J. Nelson in round 10, if not F. Jackson in round 5.
Beast Mode (10-3) - First Three Picks: - T. Brady, A. Bradshaw, S. Holmes.
Drafted Players on Final Roster: 7/15 - 20 Waiver Moves - 1 Trade
Midseason blip including a loss to the NY Bulls was all that cost Cherriesfan and the team powered by skittles from a shot at the number one seed. A solid core of T. Brady, A. Bradshaw, S. Holmes and M. Lynch probably made this one of the better drafts in retrospect. A big 32 point score from the Ravens D gave him a tight come from behind win over BamBam in week 4, likewise Brady helped him pull out a 3 point win on MNF in week 10.
The Stormbringers (8-5) - First Three Picks: - M. Jones-Drew, R. White, D. Bryant.
Drafted Players on Final Roster:5 /15 - 25 Waiver Moves - 5 Trades
The winner of the “Most Trades Award” with a grand total of 5. Some interesting ones in there… Getting Julio Jones and B. Lloyd for M. Bush and L. Kendricks was a great deal in September when Bush was parked on the bench, trading for A. Johnson in late October probably didn’t work but I can see the logic. J. Graham was a steal at number 72 as he has been a class act this year. The current team looks tidy and should be a danger in the postseason… B. Roethlisber, MJD, R. Matthews, R. White, V. Cruz (a very smart pickup via trade as it turned out), J. Graham and B. Lloyd... potent!
BamBams Warriors (7-6) - First Three Picks: - L. McCoy, G. Jennings, P. Rivers.
Drafted Players on Final Roster:5 /15 - 39 Waiver Moves - 4 Trades
The Jersey Division champion having conceded the third fewest points, only behind the other two division winners. A late season collapse cost him dear and relegated him from contention for a Bye to a first round playoff against the San Francisco Trams on a 7 game win streak. BamBam contested a very tight game in week 5 against the Devonshire Longhorns, winning by 1.96 points on a late R. Gould Field goal on MNF against Detroit in one of the leagues more dramatic finishes. LeSean McCoy led the way for most of the season and lived up to the pre draft hype. Phillip Rivers didn’t and that probably held the team back in the late season when the losses mounted.
Team Tebow (7-6) - First Three Picks: - C. Johnson, M. Forte, K. Moreno.
Drafted Players on Final Roster: 6/15 - 17 Waiver Moves - 1 Trade
Pipped at the post by BamBams Warriors after a 4 game plummet to finish the year, but still holds the only victory over the NY Bulls thanks to a big day from Megatron in Detroit’s come from behind win at Minnesota. Megatron and Forte were brilliant picks at the “snake point” of the 1st/2nd round but the next three picks include high profile busts such as K. Moreno, K. Britt and R. Grant. When Forte was lost not even the “Tebow” in the teamname could summon up a potential starting running back miracle for the playoff push and that appears to have cost them.
San Francisco Trams (7-6) - First Three Picks: - A.Peterson, V. Jackson, S. Greene.
Drafted Players on Final Roster:8 /15 - 20 Waiver Moves - 1 Trade
A tale of two halves is an understatement for yours truly. A bitter run of 6 straight defeats followed swiftly by a miracle streak of 7 win catalysed by DeMarco Murray brought the Trams out from the dead and into the playoffs with the final throws of the season. The QB and WR positions were soon a mess after P. Manning’s neck decided not to play ball and when were K. Kolb or R. Grossman ever going to be the answer! A pitiful -2.28 by Rex led to a trade for T. Romo and the infamous waiver claim for Murray. V. Jax then learnt to catch, S. Greene learnt to run and Leslie Fraiser remembered that A. Peterson was allowed to play both halves. With it all on the line in week 10 an A. Peterson TD run on MNF gave the Trams a miracle 0.18 point win… the closest of the year. As the last team left standing the Trams overcame Antonio Gates and a 6 point deficit on the back on V. Jackson to pip Child Please into the playoffs.
Child Please (6-7) - First Three Picks: - A.Johnson, M. Turner, W. Welker.
Drafted Players on Final Roster:6 /15 - 37 Waiver Moves - 2 Trades
Narrowly missing out on the playoffs was slightly unfair on GB1919. Some good drafting gave him the core of A. Johnson, M. Turner, W. Welker and B. Wells with a trade giving him the sensational R. Gronkowski in place of C. Benson. Despite this they never got a win streak going in part due to a QB flip flop between R. Fitzpatrick and high draft pick J. Freeman which has since resulted in a M. Moore gamble.
Dyslexia United (6-7) - First Three Picks: - A. Foster, M. Wallace, L. Blount.
Drafted Players on Final Roster: 8/15 - 14 Waiver Moves - 4 Trades
A relatively low number of Waiver moves from Pr4wn, helped along by 4 trades – 2 of which was an accidental switch of J. Best and M. Wallace! The season started badly with a pair of losses, at least partially due to the lack of A. Foster. Having M. Stafford has helped, but as is often the case drafting a second strong QB (T. Romo) didn’t pan out as you’re almost obliged to trade one and the deal for M. Williams and K. Kolb didn’t pan out. L. Blout didn’t have the season most expected and neither did high draft pick V. Davis who was eventually traded for James Jones in an attempt to ignite the WR corps.
Thunder and Lightning (6-7) - First Three Picks: - R. Rice, P. Hillis, J. Best.
Drafted Players on Final Roster:4 /15 - 59 Waiver Moves - 3 Trades
Praised on draft day for boasting by far the strongest stable of running backs, injuries took their toll on Thunder and Lightning and let to the execution of a whopping 59 waiver moves, top of the league. R. Rice was clearly a success, as was E. Manning who proved to be a bargain in the 7th round. Outside of that the disappointment was exemplified by P. Hillis fall from grace, J. Best’s injury and the non performance of the Colts D. Clark and A. Collie. Even M. Colston went wandering mid season due to the injury bug. An early season trade of Hillis for F. Jones and D. Jackson looked like smart money, but didn’t turn out that way either as the losses built up late in the year.
Devonshire Longhorns (6-7) - First Three Picks: - C. Johnson, L. Fitzgerald, R. Wayne.
Drafted Players on Final Roster: 13/15 - 4 Waiver Moves - 0 Trades
The closest roster to the originally drafted team once ignoring the “inactive” teams and the lowest active scorer on the season. Gambling on C. Newton in draft paid off big style and was perhaps the value of the season at pick 142 especially given the other QB was J. Flacco, though Chris Johnson was perhaps the biggest bust of the fantasy season with his first pick. SGB was another to fall foul of the Indianapolis Colts in the form of Reggie Wayne who never pulled his weight. A two point loss to Pr4wn in week 10 thanks to a missed R. Longwell field goal cost the Longhorns a four game streak to finish the year and a potential playoff berth with a 7-6 record. In that sense a 2 point loss to Might Mikes Marvels will hurt more as the game was decided again on MNF by a D. Thomas run.
Prestige Worldwide (5-8) - First Three Picks: - J. Charles, S. Jackson, M. Austin.
Drafted Players on Final Roster: 5/15 - 18 Waiver Moves - 4 Trades
A season characterised by scattered wins over some of the leagues weakest teams ended almost as soon as it started with the loss of J. Chares, a major breakout candidate to a season ending injury. Trading for Antonio Gates didn’t work out on two levels, one due to his perennial injury, but also because it lead to the trading of R. Gronkowski who leads all tight ends for points.
Horwich Casuals 2 (4-9) - First Three Picks: - R. Mendenhall, D. Brees, D. Bowe.
Drafted Players on Final Roster: 15/15 - 0 Waiver Moves - 0 Trades
Conceded the most points in the league and was relatively inactive for large portions of the season but did manage to make it to 3-3 at one point before a streak of 6 consecutive losses. The team has the big hitting D. Brees at QB and he has provided and invaluable source of points all year. Another Saint, D. Sproles was another of the 11th round wonders and provided a little bit of spark to the backfield after R. Mendehall’s drop in form.
Tony Romo and Juliet (4-9) - First Three Picks: - M. Vick, D. McFadden, A. Gates.
Drafted Players on Final Roster: 3/15 - 16 Waiver Moves - 3 Trades
A mere 3 of his drafted players remain, although the team name is one of the more creative I’ve seen in a long time. LeedsCowboys will be disappointed with a draft that initially looked promising but was soon hit by the injury bug to the top 3 picks. He was able to rid himself of D. McFadden in November for the Panthers pair and A.J Green, but it was too little too late. 2-8 at one point with only S. Smith looking like a gem of a draft pick it’s been a bad year and Tony Romo was eliminated from either of the playoffs.
Might Mikes Marvels (3-10) - First Three Picks: - F. Gore, H. Nicks, B. Marshall.
Drafted Players on Final Roster:15 /15 - 0 Waiver Moves - 0 Trades
As if there was any doubt who would finish last… “Winner” of the least points scored and the inaugural “Inactive Award” are Might Mikes Marvels. 3 wins were taken behind a the potentially explosive quad of F. Gore, H. Nicks, B. Marshall and J. Witten although there gains were often offset by having the unknown C. Steele lodged permanently in the flex and the world most famous miracle worker Tim Tebow on the bench. There were some truly horrendous weeks including a 27.9 point showing in week 7, though the team was able to overcome Thunder and Lightning despite fielding 3 bye week slots… shameful!
2011 Draft Analysis
See Spoiler Below for Draft Analysis
- Spoiler:
- San Francisco Trams - First Three Picks: - A.Peterson, V. Jackson, S. Greene.
AP goes number 1. Slightly lacking in RB depth behind the top two, but have plenty of potential value at WR. I targeted Jimmy Graham or Owen Daniels at TE and landed the latter and I believe he has a big year in him. Peyton Manning's misery was ended at the end of round 4 and provided he doesn't miss too much time is good value.
Devonshire Longhorns - First Three Picks: - C. Johnson, L. Fitzgerald, R. Wayne.
Tennessee has the best schedule for RB's so CJ2K was a no brainer, Ingram should be a decent partner for him provided the Saints give him more carries than average. Fitz is a great pickup at #27, but QB depth is limited with Flacco and Newton the only options.
Dyslexia United - First Three Picks: - A. Foster, M. Wallace, L. Blount.
Tony Romo and Matt Stafford at QB is probably the best in the league. Mike Wallace could be a star this year and is part of the reason so many of the experts" have been targeting Roethlisberger in their drafts. Pr4wn also nabs Tampa runner in the 3rd round to compliment Foster. Malcom Floyd in round 11 could be great value if Rivers throws as much as last year.
New York Bulls - First Three Picks: - A.Rodgers, F. Jones, D. Jackson.
First QB off the board. As is often the case when drafting a QB so high, the RB depth is little bit patchy. BenJarvus Green Ellis and Fred Jackson are both starters, but in backfield committees. Loads of WR's drafted. Jordy Nelson could turn out to be a steal in round 10, as could Emmanuel Sanders in the final round.
Thunder and Lightning - First Three Picks: - R. Rice, P. Hillis, J. Best.
Running Back crazy at the start... if Hillis can avoid the Madden curse it could be a very could trio. Suffered from not being active in the draft and was promptly given Graham Gano in round 9. Roy Williams would seem good value in round 12, but he has been slipping since the start of preseason... that said, it is a Mike Martz offence so passing is the name of the game and he is a starter.
BamBams Warriors - First Three Picks: - L. McCoy, G. Jennings, P. Rivers.
I love the first 5 picks from BamBam. Solid running back pair in McCoy (who I feel is poised for a big year) and D. Williams (plus J. Stewart). Rivers could be a beast at QB and Jennings and Finley should take most of Rodgers targets this year and he is the unquestioned number one. Steven Ridley, taken late on could be in for Green-Ellis starting role by mid season.
Prestige Worldwide - First Three Picks: - J. Charles, S. Jackson, M. Austin.
Top running back pair provided Jackson stays healthy. Also has T. Jones as a handcuff to Charles. Schaub in round 5 was my original target, so that's a good move. As is Mario Manningham in round 6 as the Giants have a decent schedule this year as far as WR's go.
Horwich Casuals 2 - First Three Picks: - R. Mendenhall, D. Brees, D. Bowe.
Another computer drafted team. One of Hightower and Bush has to start at RB which could be an issue later on in the year although Bowe and Harvin is tidy at WR as they are clearly the number ones on their respective teams.
Tony Romo and Juliet - First Three Picks: - M. Vick, D. McFadden, A. Gates.
Mike Vick could do anything this year, but couldn't be passed up at number 9 and could star. Antonio Gates should be a machine, but WR depth is questionable despite containing a host of "number 1" receivers if only because top pick Brandon Lloyd is constantly banded around as a bust for this year.
Might Mikes Marvels - First Three Picks: - F. Gore, H. Nicks, B. Marshall.
Looking only at those 3 picks you'd be thinking things were going well. Nicks is perhaps the number 2/3 receiver this year and Gore will have to shoulder the load this year as the 49ers are inept at QB. However the CPU was in control and promptly destroyed this draft with a kicker in round 6,a 3rd string RB in round 8, Kyle Orton as starting QB with Tebow backing him up plus only 3 receivers, the last of whom was Bernard Berrian drafted in round 15. Shocking!
Beast Mode - First Three Picks: - T. Brady, A. Bradshaw, S. Holmes.
Very good start getting Brady, plus Sam Bradford later on. A loud cheer erupted in the draft room when Lynch was picked in round 4... apparently a team can't called itself beast mode without it's beast. Mike Sims Walker could do well this year with Bradford, but the targets could go to a whole host of WRs. Steve Smith (PHI) could be a steal if he can get back healthy and into the Eagles lineup with Mike Vick on fire.
Child Please - First Three Picks: - A.Johnson, M. Turner, W. Welker.
Tidy team here. Johnson and Welker make a top notch pair of starting receivers. Turner has durability issues but is one of the rare featured backs in the league. Beanie Wells should go very well, but that has been said before! Josh Freeman could come down to earth this year with a tougher schedule, but has the talent. One of my favorite teams.
The Stormbringers - First Three Picks: - M. Jones-Drew, R. White, D. Bryant.
If I had to pick to trade entire teams, this would be my target. MJD has health issues, but that can be covered by picking up his backup. Otherwise, Dez Bryant is primed for a huge year and could beat Miles Austin fantasy wise. Ryan Matthews started to turn up at the tail end of last year and should continue that this year. Roethlisberger is great value in rd 5, J. Graham and L. Kendricks at TE are both primed for breakout seasons. James Starks could be taking a 50/50 share of the Packers carries as well. This is why I prefer to draft late in a round!
Team Tebow - First Three Picks: - C. Johnson, M. Forte, K. Moreno.
Again a late 1st round team that has good quality. Nice starting backs in Forte and Moreno, plus Ben Tate could capitalize on any lingering issues with Fosters hamstring. Kenny Britt should do well as long as Hasselbeck stays in at QB Ryan in round 6 could be a steal. I have to question drafting Colt McCoy in rd 10

Re: 606V2 West 2011 - NFL.com Fantasy Football Homepage
Just an idea...
Maybe someone should create a new fantasy thread with a list of all possibly leagues such as East, West, keepers, dynasty and any others...
People can put their names down (list names under leagues in original post) and then get the players to comfirm nearer the time.
Not sure if that makes sense to anyone else but it would give an idea to the different leagues and who's up for what leagues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On another note, if we are going to go with the East and West leagues... are we going to have a different waiver format?

Wouldn't be a bad idea , that way we can set up or reactivate the leagues but not end up with another M.M.Marvels who joined then never showed up again
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would go along with that
Something like if you use the waiver go to the back of the queue

I've long been for the sign-up then reconfirm model. I'm all for new members to the board, but I want to avoid someone being reserved a place because they happened to look at the AF section on the correct day and forgetting because we set up a league relatively far ahead of the season itself.

That is essentially what we had, only that it reset to the worst team first after each game week... Changes muted last year included caps on the number of moves per season such that you had to think about it a little bit more.

Oh, and on the Dynasty/Keeper/IDP thing.
Don't think a Dynasty is the right move as I don't think we can keep interest amongst participants for so long given that your team literally stays the same.
More into the keeper idea as it is the blend between the standard and dynasty games. You get rewarded for picking up great value, but your not locked into a terrible team long term (bound to put people off).
IDPs I have never even thought of doing... wouldn't have a clue what the draft strategy would be! I guess I could give it a go but if anything I like having a team defence!

I like the keeper idea. It is more appealing to me than a full on dynasty but I think that we should be able to keep a fair amount of our team instead of just two or three as it is in some leagues.

I'm all for new members to the board, but I want to avoid someone being reserved a place because they happened to look at the AF section on the correct day and forgetting because we set up a league relatively far ahead of the season itself.Forward Pass wrote:
I would go along with that
Something like if you use the waiver go to the back of the queue
That is essentially what we had, only that it reset to the worst team first after each game week... Changes muted last year included caps on the number of moves per season such that you had to think about it a little bit more.
Sorry , wasn't very clear I meant I prefer if it doesn't reset to last team 1st each week
I meant that once you you used your pick you go to the back of the queue
Would have no problem with a limit of waivers etc

On the waiver idea, how about using a budget? I'm sure there is some technical fantasy term for it, but can't remember exactly. Say $100 for the season, highest bid on a player gets him on waivers. If you use all your budget in the first 3 weeks, tough! Makes it a bit more strategic too.
Yeah as I said earlier, I worry whether we would a) have the numbers for dynasty and b) be able to sustain it. Keeper sounds a lot better, but I don't think we could have more than say 4 or 5 keepers at the very max each year.
As for IDP, I personally wouldn't have a clue where to even start! I would be more likely to waste my defensive picks on players I recognise rather than considering fantasy value!

The Waiver Budget sounds like a good idea. Are we doing it on NFL.com again this year? If so, do we know that they offer all the options we are after?
I think I'm with Bambam on IDP, it'd probably end up costing me my slim chance at the title.

I joined an IDP league last year for the first time, it worked out ok and not to hard to grasp.
In this league played on NFL.com I had to pick a one DL LB CB and flex DP which could be any defensive player.

Just had a look and the Waiver Budget looks an interesting option
Better than resetting each week or capping no. of waivers IMO
But happy to go with any of them
Assuming the leagues are reactivated ,any idea of a draft date Pr4wn ?

Good point. Its July, but next thing its August, then its pre-season and before you know it the seasons upon you. If we are going to do this again this year, we need to be organised pretty soon.

I was in the East league last year and realise this is the old West thread but count me in for being involved again this year. The season just wouldn't be the same without being involved in a fantasy league.
Re the IDP thing - I was in an IDP league 3 years ago and I really liked that format. Wasn't that hard - you just go for guys that you think will rack up a lot of sacks, tackles, forced fumbles or INTs. If it came to a vote then I'd go for that but would be more than happy with team defenses if that's what the majority prefer.
Don't like the sound of dynasty but keeper appeals - there was a whole bunch of my team from last year that I'd hate to be stuck with but one or two of them I'd happily keep.

I don't like the idea is limiting or budgeting the waiver wire. I was in the position last year of having alot of injury problem, so the waiver was the only place to turn as generally trades were few and far between. Also given the size of our league the waiver tends to be slim pickings at best, and also consider if a few people don't make the draft, they could be left with a team they didn't really want with very little room to make adjustments.
Keeper league is something I'd be very interested in, out of the 3 different formats proposed.

I've collapsed all of last years stuff into Spoilers at the top of the thread.
Shall we keep this one going or do people want separate thread for the next season?

Would have to agree with this. Logically the best time is a sunday late afternoon/evening

Any ideas on the draft order? Maybe random again or possible have the 1st round in reverse order from last years league? Ie winners pick last (1st in the 2nd round)

I agree Sundays are easiest for everyone to attend draft
Always prefer draft to be as close to regular season start as possible in case of injuries / hold outs etc
Late AUG or 2nd Sept
Don't mind which way draft order is sorted out

Draft order randomised for me. Probably too many new faces in each league to leave it dependent on last year's finishes.
Agree with a Sunday evening draft

Imagine draft order (if pr4wn ever gets round to giving me control of this league!) will be done as per last year, i.e. I will do a random drawing and set that as the default, with the snake process doing the rest.
Either way, it will be the same as the other league

If it's random draw . you can either do a draw yourself anytime & let us know draft order or NFL.COM will random draw it 30 mins before draftcrazy_dave23 wrote:Imagine draft order (if pr4wn ever gets round to giving me control of this league!) will be done as per last year, i.e. I will do a random drawing and set that as the default, with the snake process doing the rest.

Would rather crazy_dave does it. I'm sad enough to do a load of mock drafts from that draft slot first!

I knew there was a reason it was better to do it yourself rather than let NFL.com do the randomization for you!
