England vs India First ODI debate
So the first ODI is about to get underway.
The big news of the day is that Sachin Tendulkar isn't playing.
India team.
Rahane
P Patel
Dravid
Kohli
Sharma
Raina
Dhoni
Ashwin
P Kumar,
Vinay Kumar
M Patel
Eengland.
Cook
Kieswetter
Trott
Morgan
Bell
Stokes
Patel
Bresnan
Broad
Anderson
Dernbach.
Not the best of starts for India with Tendulkar out, but will they show some fight on the field? Will England enhance their not so stable ODI reputation? Will Captain Cook continue to surprise? Will they miss Pietersen?

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
Big support for India again. Thinking Eng need the barmy army here now and treat it as a tour match.
Will we ever get to a stage where British people of Indian origin support England? Like people like myself of Irish origin support them or people of African origin tend to in soccer or is a case of such cultural seperation that they will never do so?
As for the game, India are stuffing England and Nas is loving it on Sky,

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
Rahane gone after a good start. He, unike some of the IPL propped up young guns, was playing the short ball well, but this time the pull came of the top edge. An impressive 40 from Rahane. Would have wwanted him to carry on, but any ways.
So now its Dravid time.

Good over from Broad and a well deserved wicket. Nice cameo from Rahane

wicket to Broad, but England still bowling too short

Broad gets Dravid, nothing on hot spot, but you can see the change in the ball rotation as the ball passes the bat, so there was definitely an edge there, good decision by the third umpire, and good bowling by Broad

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
2 down, Dravid gone via a review nothing on hot spot but definitely a noise
Re: England vs India First ODI debate
Indian commentray saying they can't believe the decision but I don't see why not, there's a noise as the ball passes the bat which couldn't be anything else, a change in the ball rotation, just nothing on hot spot, which we know isn't 100%. Snicko shows a clear edge, so it IS the right decision, and they're still going on about it. It was OUT!!!

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
Hotspots a load of rubbish doesn't show up faint edges, snicko alot more reliable.
Re: England vs India First ODI debate
Dravid given out on review ones again, and again guess what? the HotSpot showed absolutely nothing.
TMS says there was a sound and a little deflection.

I just hope they remain consistent on these calls.

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
snicko takes too long to load though. I just don't get these Indian commentators, that was clearly out, but because hot spot doesn't show anything, they don't think it should be given. There IS a deflection in the ball rotation (they're saying there isn't) and snicko clearly shows the edge, so surely if the right decision is reached that's good?

He nicked it, snicko confirmed it, thus the right decision was made, thus very good bit of umpiring. End of story.

oh yeah, just can't see how I can do without Zaheer (both as far as Indians and good seam bowlers are concerned) so no deal I'm afraid, sorry.

yep, definit edge, they need to suck it up.
they're happy to cheer the fours, so accept the wickets.

Is Patel (Samit) ambidextrous, I notice he throws right-handed, but bowls left-handed?

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
Oh for flip's sake, his bat's away from his body, there's a clear noise as the ball passes the bat (at the exact moment) which shows up on snicko, and there's a change in the ball rotation (which the third umpire actually saw). It was OUT, now can we move on please? (commentators)

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
I fail to see what there is to argue about, it was clearly out, as shown by snicko, so what's there to debate apart from hot spot being shown to be flawed again? (which we already knew)

good couple of overs for England, going for just five off those, but they culd do with some wickets. This is where we miss Swann

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
do England actually think sometimes when they bowl, Patel is loving that pull shot and we keep feeding it to him. He hasn't hit a single decent cover drive, and yet we persist with the bouncers, useless

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
I don't even want to get started on bowling short. It is the worst type of delivery in an ODI, and should be used solely as the surprise ball.
Re: England vs India First ODI debate
it's OK if the pitch has a bit of pace, but this is another spongey wicket, so there's no sense in bowling there, especially when the guy has 70 without hitting a drive all day

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
and Eng are getting punished for it.
On a different note:
Looking at the weather for the next week or two, i wouldn't be surprised if several of the games don't finish now.
we've been lucky with how many results we've had this summer to be honest.

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
so taking the old rule of doubling the 30 over score, India should make 300.
I wouldn't fancy England getting near that on a damp overcast day. Maybe bowling first was a mistake today. getting 250 folowing will be hard.
India sure are far better in this form and the crowd are mostly behind them. It's all set-up for them to win (mind you , the way they shout for everything their could be only ten of them and they'd outshout the reserved english english)..

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
India really have to put up a big total, other than PK and Ashwin, their bowling seems too weak. Munaf can be effective on his days, but think they missed a trick by not playing young Varun Aaron.

These two are showing utter disdain for englands bowling.
they're far too good today. a class above in the form in which they are the worlds best.

I don't believe it, Trott comes on and he bowls a short ball to Patel, who pulls for four, this has got beyond a joke now

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
yep, it's a poor bowling display all round (we will not chase 300 or near it), show that we look very weak without Swann.. Maybe young Briggs needs a look, we need other spin options.

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
Ben Stokes isn't fit enough to bowl, and England's 5th bowling option seems pretty weak at the moment. Samit Patel's only chance of getting a wicket is batsman playing a bad shot, and same's the case for Trott. Who was saying Samit could be England batting all-rounder in tests when they play in the sub-continent?

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
India should have taken the power play when the 5th bowlers were bowling. Trott and Samit have already into their 9th over. Had India opted for the Powerplay, England ould have been forced to use their main bowlers under field restrictions, and towards the slogging part of the innings, they would have to use their parttimers.
Not the greatest way of thinking, and now they will be going for everything in the powerplay against good bowlers in the closing stages. And every chance of a few falling in a heap.

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
And Patel throws it away on 95, horrible flash at a wide ball, thin edge through to Kieswetter, and that's Anderson's 200th wicket in ODIs. Maybe England will figure out where to bowl to Patel in the rest of the series now...

Re: England vs India First ODI debate
Patel was dropped early in his innings, and had a 50-50 LBW call going in his favor, but at last luck ran out on him on 95.
Take nothing away from him though, coming in as a make shift opener, playing his best ODI innings. Well done Parthiv.
