US Open Day 9/10 07/09
Well the weather laid waste to play yesterday. Other outdoor courts will be used.
On Arthur Ashe in the afternoon session is:
Muller v Nadal
Djokovic v Tipsarevic
On Louis Armstrong
Ferrer v Roddick
On Grandstand
Murray v Young
Isner v Simon
Night Session
Federer v Tsonga
Now will the organisers consider a Monday final?
Look at it this way. The winners of the 4th round today would have to play again tomorrow. Then the semi's on Saturday as well as the final on Sunday.
The US Organisers really need to look at their schedules for the future.

To me it's clearly the worst slam by a long margin. For the last 4 years the player playing first the semi won the final. Only Federer beating Davydenko in 3 sets in 2007 reversed the trend.
You woudl think they would start the eve session at 6pm instead of 7pm...but no...better deprive the spectators AND CBS of an extra match than argue against CBS itself.

Re: US Open Day 9/10 07/09
Won't make a difference mate as he is too good for anybody right now, only way he can lose to someone on the other side of the draw is by making unforced errors galore, and that rarely happens anymore. To be honest right now Tsonga is more of a threat to him than Federer or Nadal, a game between them would be quite close just like the other three times they played in bo5.socal1976 wrote:All I can say is please god let Novak play in the first semi.

Yeah Djoko is the massive favourite now, especially now Nadal and Murray (his most likely final opponents) will have such a congested schedule.
That's assuming Djokovic doesn't have any further issues with his shoulder...

Although, in light of the congested schedule I'm hoping that Djokovic will be in the second semi final...
4 matches in 5 days for Nadal/Murray PLUS less recovery time for the final would seem a little unfair. And though we all may want different people to win, we surely all want a competetive and entertaining final.

Tenez,
Sampras beat Agassi in three finals
after playing the "night" semifinal.
In the original "Super Saturday"
the second semifinal followed the womens
final.

Re: US Open Day 9/10 07/09
They should put it back to Monday now. If the whole draw was behind then fine, cramming everyone in would not disadvantage anyone as they'd all be in the same boat.
But at the moment half the mens draw is a round behind schedule. Surely the number one priority for the open is to ensure that the quality is high, which is less likely with one half of the draw a round behind.
I know commercially they probably want their super Saturday, but it would be a shame if the quality of the competition was sacrificed because of it.

True? Good on him. Agassi was a nervous player with a bad record in finals.

You actually think that matters?
Anyway, being completely biased I'm hoping for a good day today (and Fed wins)
Clear Friday (so Murray/Nadal play their quarters)
Super Saturday (Fed on first and wins)
Sunday final.
Hell, he keeps getting 2nd semi anyway, so about time he got the breaks.

They should construct some drain holes on the courts, saves them wasting 45 mns to dry it.

For all the bad things that can be said about the USO, that maybe an over-simplistic criticism.

They would have to slope the court for that to work - a 5% slope should work.Josiah Maiestas wrote:They should construct some drain holes on the courts, saves them wasting 45 mns to dry it.

I can't blame them for the weather MFC. They do have indoor courts. They could use them.

Apparently they don't use covers at the US Open - so it takes longer for the courts to dry once the rain stops. Nadal was complaining about the lines being slippy.

Re: US Open Day 9/10 07/09
nope but the stupid scheduling doesn't help, it's so heavily weighted towards the back-end that as soon as you get any rain it becomes incredibly congested. Having R1 matches on wednesday is ludicrous!

Never in doubt, you could make his side of the court half the size of his opponents and he would still find something..!Nadal was complaining

Re: US Open Day 9/10 07/09
Odd that Muller broke Nadal's 1st service game to lead 3-0 before the rain stopped play - last year Nadal was all but unbreakable at USO.
I'd expect Nadal to claw that back on any basis, but the further short delay maybe a good opportunity for him to re-group quicker than he might have done with Uncle Tony's help.

This Gilles is such a talent. I remember he knocked Roddick off this same tournament a few years ago when Roddick was still a force. He certainly gave nadal a very hard time at Wimbledon too.
Great LH! Nadal i sprobably very worried. Shame I missed the first games.

I have been working today so missed what little play there was. Apparently Nadal, Murray and Roddick were so unhappy at their treatment they visited the referees office.

Re: US Open Day 9/10 07/09
The reason is that they don't look 'stylish' I can't work that one out.
Apparently Nadal, Roddick, Murray had a whinge at the match referee because it was 'spitting' and the back of the courts were wet. Nadal has claimed that they players weren't treated properly and their safety was not considered.
A bit much I think. I understand the players concerns, but a tad bit dramatic.
