The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of great modern open-side flanker pictures on the bar. We've got Dusatoir, Jennings, Pocock, Brussow and McCaw up, all in action "pilfering pill". Graffiti's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Carter's having a funny day. He's nailing the difficult kicks and fluffing the easy ones.

Notch, why was hook talking about cricket??
He was talking about the minnow nations in the World Cup and then he went on a long tangent about Ireland in the Cricket Word Cup, and comparing them with Argentina in the Rugby and the Pacific Nations and eventually Pope had to interject

Carter's kicking has been a bit like that all year in the S15 Cari, not sure if it's not a bit of complacency and lack of concentration with the easy ones.

No Pete, in fairness ITV are the broadcaster of RWC 2011 for the UK. That's England Wales and Scotland and technically N. Ireland as well. All I ask is for some balance

I don't object to them talking about England more than they talk about the other home nations - they have a better World Cup record and are more likely to do well; but I object to it when they don't mention the other home nations at all.

Tonga have got to have a strong scrum now. They're only a couple of metres away from the try line.

Tonga should have a strong scrum, the worst most devestating scrummager EVER (according to sky) is packing down the loosehead side for them...

England vs. Argentina is the next big game in the competition and one that would have the most appeal for the largest proportion of the ITV audience, of course they are going to mention it after this game, it's their next major televised sporting event. I would imagine that straight after that game, they will talk about Wales vs. South Africa, which will then be their next big match.
Sorry if I sound a bit humpy with this one but it does get a little grating in here sometimes as an Englishman when there is constant digging out of the coverage favouring England when it is on channels where the English audience is the largest and therefore the coverage is quite rightly targeted that way.

Awh guys, come on WORLD IN UNION. Who gives a toss about the coverage as long as we get some!
Viewers in Wales can watch S4C if you're that fed up of ITV during the Wales games.

I can't agree with you on this Pete, it is ITVs duty to cover all three nations in a fair and balanced way, the fact that even in the build-up they cut to a reporter to tell us all about "Jonny Wilkinsons England" and their build up but failed to mention Wales or Scotland already shows they plan a biased English heavy coverage

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
ITV are catering to more than just an English audience though, so balance is needed when discussing the home nations (although I concede England will be mentioned more often then the others) . It's not just ITV that does it though, the BBC are just as guility and that's not even in the build up to matches, that's just reports on the RWC itself. Just because there's more of you, does that really mean it's fair that Ireland, Wales and Scotland don't even get a mention?
I'm not going to say any more on it now.
Cari - tis S4C all the way for me, I love their coverage
Notch - cheers for the name
