GBP Sack Ring Magazine Editors
From: http://queensberry-rules.com/
On Thursday, Eric Raskin and William Dettloff, contributing editor for the publication and senior writer for the publication, respectively, announced on their Ring Theory podcast that editor-in-chief Nigel Collins and managing editor Joseph Santoliquito had been fired by Golden Boy Promotions, the boxing promoter that owns Ring Magazine. They said that the offices of Ring Magazine in Blue Bell, Pa. will be shuttered, and the magazine offices will now be centered in Los Angeles, where GBP and the editors of RingTV, the magazine's website with previously separate leadership, are located. Dettloff and Raskin sounded alarm bells about what this entails for Ring Magazine's independence, and, consequently, its championship policy and the credibility of its rankings.
If anyone had noticed the way RingTV.com went downhill after Raskin and Dettloff were "removed" -- this looks like bad news for fans of the magazine and advocates of the Ring ratings and championships (the only ones which made sense to me, incidentally).

Mentioned this on the news thread, but not very specifically, deserved its own thread.
Loses all credibility, that's the belt and Magazine dead in my eyes.

So will the ring belt-holders now be refered to as having won an Oscar?

Re: GBP Sack Ring Magazine Editors
Worst news for boxing fans for years, of far more significance than the lack of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, for example. The Ring was the one oasis of sanity in a desert of multiple champions, ludicrous rankings and paid-for entries. It was, at least, a reference point for someone trying to make sense of the chaos.
Now, we face an uncertain future. One would hope that someone such as Collins, who isn't always right, but has always had the interests of the sport at heart, will be able to unite with like-minded, independent individuals, beholden to no-one, and produce a new publication which can perform the task that the Ring has managed over the years.

Am not a massive fan of the ring always found its holier than thou attitude really grating and given its past largely unwarranted. Also its seeming inability to report on a fight within three month of it happening is a little annoying.
However putting aside my own opinions on its content this is potentially very bad news. For the magazine to have any credibility it simply has to be free of bias to a particularl promoter or governing body and one has to fear at its likelihood of doing this with GBP now choosing their own people at the helm rather than those they inherited. Rarely bought the Ring, as I consider the two British based magazines infinitely better but have to say this news is unlikely to see me reverse such a decision

Last time I read a copy of The Ring in WHSmith I found about half a dozen grammatical and spelling errors within about ten minutes. I know that makes me sound like a grammar Nazi (and I am), I think it's just poor standards from a publication which likes to enjoy the reputation The Ring has.

I used to buy the mag religiously for a few years but TBO I found most of it pretty rubbish and as someone stated above their attitude that their better than everyone else wears thin.
Also I found them lately to be very pro Manny and very anti Mayweather so they're definitely not whiter than white as they like to broadcast.
I still flick through it every month in shops but not much stands out to make me want to buy it.
We'll have to see if they seem to to more positive articles about GBP fighters and review their rankings.

Best thing about The Ring recently has been their covers, with artwork by Richard Slone on a few occasions.

Re: GBP Sack Ring Magazine Editors
Didnt really read it much anymore as it always seem to be a month behind when I bought it anyway.
This was always going to be on the cards when GBP bought it.

What boxing could do with is a disgustingly rich Arab with nothing better to do to inject a fat stack of cash into establishing a respectable boxing organisation, and force the rest to the sidelines.

~ Tally Ho~Ho and onward and downward we shall go. Sack the lot and replace them with Barney World and noone would notice the difference.......NOONE!!!!
With that golden opportunity lost, after Mr. Dettloff's grade school effort in his recent Klitschko brothers article, he should count himself blessed if he was demoted to Chief Pencil Sharpener & Ink Blotter.
Sorry to rain on your kindly concern sir, but saying that Ring is the best of the lot is like saying crazy Colonel Qaddaffy is the best dictator in chief, really now, those in the know should know better. The days when Mr. Fleischer controlled the boxing media and took under the table payments from mobsters for favorable articles are long gone not that Mr. GBP shall ever be any more fair and equitable.
We won't ever learn the true story behind those fishnet stockings, you can bet your fuzzy booties on it!

For one horrendous moment I imagined Fleischer in fishnet stockings. Thank Heavens I erred in reading it. Golden Boy was bad enough.

Re: GBP Sack Ring Magazine Editors
The last couple of times that i have read the Ring it has seems like an old 90s version of FHM with a bit of boxing news in usually well out of date.
Very outdated which is a shame as it was a good magazine years back

Re: GBP Sack Ring Magazine Editors
I was talking more historically rather than currently to be fair, remember buying it every month many years ago when it was truly the bible of boxing. I agree BM is definately number one nowadays.
