Asamoah Gyan leaves Sunderland for the UAE
Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has signed for United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain on loan. The Ghanaian joined Sunderland from French side Rennes in August 2010 for £13m. But on Friday, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce claimed "parasites" turned Gyan's head after his goal in the 1-1 draw with England at Wembley in March. And on Saturday it was announced that the striker, 25, was on his way to the UAE.
Bruce said: "Anyone who has seen Asamoah play will know that he hasn't been himself in recent months. This option suits all parties at the present time and the club is well-protected in the deal. Asamoah has three years remaining on his contract and of course my wish would be that he finds his spark again and we see him in red and white stripes next season in the form that first attracted us to him."
Throughout the transfer window, Gyan was linked with a move to a big European club. On Friday Bruce blamed agents for turning Gyan's head. "Since that game at Wembley, all the parasites, as I call them, hover around," said Bruce. "People are in his ear constantly trying to engineer a deal for him. Certainly since the England game, when he played at Wembley so well on the night, something has been troubling him. It's very difficult, the constant speculation no matter what you try to quash or quell, and the people around him, the people who want to make a fast buck, and it affects him in the end. He was going from Real Madrid to Bayern Munich to Valencia to Atletico Madrid."
Now Bruce said on Friday that he had challenged the striker to rediscover his form. "I had a conversation with him two days ago to say, 'Look, the window as now closed, Asa," Bruce said. "Right, we need to see you back playing again and back the way you know you can play'."
Gyan - who has yet to score this season - was due to miss Saturday's Premier League match with Chelsea because of a hamstring problem picked up on international duty with Ghana.

Terrible news for Sunderland fans, that leaves just Bendtner and Wickham to lead the line this season, and I would be worrying that they're not going to get a lot of goals now. Asamoah Gyan hasn't looked as good as when he first started but he was still giving defence's a handful, and surely even Gyan working at half his usual quality is better than nothing. I doubt he'll ever play for Sunderland again now.

What a bum signing this guys proven to be, potentially a great player but Sunderland sold Darren Bent on the back of having this guy

Re: Asamoah Gyan leaves Sunderland for the UAE
Steve Bruce has blasted him now, claimed he had said he was happy two days ago only for him to suddenly leave, he says he doubts he'll ever play for the club again.
I think he's a good player, and Sunderland are going to miss him with only Bendtner leading the line now.

It's got to be wages, no other reason he should want to leave. Bruce not convinced he'll be coming back to Sunderland as well.

Apparently he's made the decision to go out on loan over the last day.
Re: Asamoah Gyan leaves Sunderland for the UAE
Yes but surely it would be upto Sunderland to grant him permission ? and given Bruce's comments only on friday of him needing to concentrate on playing for Sunderland why let him go ?

Judging by Bruce's comment on MOTD, he doesn't know a whole load about it.
Re: Asamoah Gyan leaves Sunderland for the UAE
Yeh saw that , i just find it really odd that if they were willing to let him leave that they didn't sell him in the transfer window and get some money for him .

Well I assume they'll get money for him next summer, because his contract isn't up until 2014. Judging from Bruce's comments they didn't want him to go, and Gyan was claiming he didn't want to go until yesterday.

Re: Asamoah Gyan leaves Sunderland for the UAE
Didn't Gyan hand in a transfer request on the last day? There had been loads of reports he's wanted a way out for the entire summer.
What I don't understand is how this is being done to financially help Gyan. As I understand it, when a player is loaned out, the parent club still is in control of his contract, but the child club may pay a fee to loan him in the first place, and then offer to pay a percentage of his wages. If UAE were to inherit his current contract with Sunderland, surely they couldn't offer him bigger wages or bonuses legally? I'm pretty sure I'm incorrect because no one seems to have mentioned it, but I'm still quite puzzled.

Turns out I was wrong, when a players move in a loan out of his domestic country then a new contract is offered. Rumoured to be on £100k+ per week.

Re: Asamoah Gyan leaves Sunderland for the UAE
why would Bruce keep a player who will leave a bad smell around the place?
He's not as clueless as Harry and Levy in keeper an unhappy player at the club when it have a poor impact on the club... Gyan was probably told by his agent that a bigger club wanted to bring him in, or Gyan just isn't suited to the english culture...

Fair play to Steve Bruce for just biting the bullet and getting rid of player that has changed vastly over a year.
After the World Cup he came across as a very humble person that was very grateful to have been given the chance to play in the EPL but as always, the vultures we all loathe to call 'football agents' have swarmed around him and brainwashed him into wanting to make the most money possible.
What on earth can he gain by playing football in the UAE? I would fully understand if he had moved to a bigger EPL team or a Milan/Madrid sort of side but he has moved to a league where it is obvious that all players only go there for the cash.
Bruce has done the right thing in getting rid of an unhappy player that won't give 100% if the going gets tough and he deserves a pat on the back.

I love everyone praising Bruce, but it seems he had little to do with the actual deal

Gyan is now reported as saying that the deal was "too good" to refuse as he apparently has doubled his wages. He is not different from the majority of players who want to get on the gravy train.

Re: Asamoah Gyan leaves Sunderland for the UAE
The Times this morning reports that Sunderland get £6m fee (for a loan deal!) and Gyan gets a pay rise of £100,000 -- yes, that's right, he will be on £125,000 per week over there. Too good indeed.
Crazy figures, and especially as he'll be away for the African Cup of Nations in Jan/Feb too.

If those figures in the Times are anywhere near accurate then its a good deal all round, Sunderland can go out and buy a striker in January, I can't recommend Gorgious Samars highly enough Steve...

Its the record payment for a loan deal its crazy and he royally screwed over Sunderland since they cant replace him, they do have the Korean striker Ji but cant see him doing much in the first half of the season

The thing is that for all i do think he is a cracking player...he is not a profilic goalscorer which is exactly the thing that Sunderland are desperate for.

Very true. 2 goals in 5 games is not good and 3 of those games were defeats. Brucie has to work with what he's got until January though.

Re: Asamoah Gyan leaves Sunderland for the UAE
£6m to loan an inconsistent striker for a season, and not having to pay any of his wages. Ideally he'll net 20+ goals for his loan team so whoever's in charge of Sunderland at the end of the season can get a fee that comes close to what they paid. I'm glad we're not the only club lacking striking options.

But now they're missing a cracking player and a profilic goalscorer, I'd much rather have at least one of the two rather than none. Particuarly as they have now Bendtner and Wickham as their only striking options and Sessengon as a make-shift striker, but I don't rate him highly in his actual position never mind up front.

Thats true Leak,
However they could still go out and find some loan signings for a season or until january before they bring people in permanently.

I'm fairly sure the loan window has shut as well? I think the free transfer window is continuing, but I think transfer window and loan window shut at the same time. The only reason Gyan was able to leave then was because the UAE window is open.

James McFadden is a free agent, rrumoured he'd be going to Celtic or Villa, maybe not as prolific as Sunderland would likebut probably the highest profile player who isn't old and has bags of EPL experiance that is still available

That is a good shout, I think they desperately need at least one other striker and should snap up the first decent player that will move there.

McFadden is a decent player for a Scottish international; really made some good goals in everton colours, I honestly don't Celtic going that way though seeing as they have 3 or 4 good enough striking options already...
