Cari - I dunno, just have never liked him and he seems to put cheap shots in, stupid swinging high arm on the USA player in the deadball area in what was just a really clumsy attempt at a tackle. He seems to do it a lot (whether it's accidental or no), Just I dunno, don't like him.

Someone please shoot Gordon D'arcy. He has contributed nothing in an Ireland jersey in 2 seasons.

Well again Ireland unconvincing. A win is a win but it really wasnt a great display
The USA really deserved a try this game, they have really put up a good fight.

Pleased for the USA that they got that try.
Good game, decent win for Ireland, they will need to improve to beat Australia, but they have it in them.

22-8, great effort and endeavour by the USA, score reflects the match imo. Well done Ireland on the win
Ireland improved 2nd half and took their chances. THeir lineout looked good. They just need a bit more composure and the points will come.

Well done Ireland...terrible conditions in the first half, and the USA will be chuffed with that. glad Tommy came good eventually. Hopefully Sexytoes won't be too disappointed with himself. I still think they need to sort out the balls...

See you all for the Wales SA match. Come on Wales!!!!!!
Can someone explain to me why D'Arcy is still starting? Great player in his day but he is woefully out of form and is showing no signs of getting it back for Ireland.

So, they deserve that consolation score but I knew we weren't going to score once we blew that last attacking scrum. We can't score from outside the 22. I simply can't imagine us scoring from outside the 22.
Very disappointing performance from Ireland.

Comprehensive win for Ireland. If it was a drier and firmer pitch probably would have been by more.

All jokes aside, well done Ireland. That was a big potential banana skin. No injuries, selection made simpler. Three tries whilst not in top gear. Forward dominance. Well done USA, excellent account given and a try on the board. If Aus think the same Ireland will turn up against them they've had it.

I thought Ireland was solid, they had some ahndling errors, but to be expected in the conditions.
You can't take it away from the USA though, they tackled their hearts out and never gave up.

A win is a win. I knew the USA would be tough.
We made a lot of handling errors but the set piece was excellent and we looked dangerous with the ball.
Excellent performance from Ferris and OConnell and Bowe showed again what a great finisher he is. Jennings and Best played well too.
There's plenty to work on but some positives too. Well played to the USA.

With Italy to come after Oz, that missed point could cost us.

Good points from Lynah. I've been saying for a while that this rotation of the half backs is really bad for the side.

I thought bowe was average enough. Poc wasn't at his best. The centre combination is busted but I really don't think that mcfadden is the answer. The highest level he has played at 12 is in the magners final and he was poor in that game.

Hopefully we'll see reddan-sexton but I fear that sexton may have played himself out of the team, haven't see him play so poorly since around 09 and before.

Team for next week
1. Healy
2. Best- did enough tonight to hold off flannery
3. Ross
4. DOC
5. POC
6. Ferris- Our best player
7. SOB- A dual threat with Ferris could be irresistable
8. Heaslip
9. Jesus i dont know.
10. ROG- Sexton has played himself out
11. Trimble
12. Wallace- D'arcy offers zip
13. BOD- if we had another option i would be debating it
14. Bowe - Harsh on Earls i think but 2 tries swings it for me
15. Kearney- if fit
It feels very like 2007 all over again

I thought jennings was poor, game was made for boss today thought he would have done alot, Murray didn't have the experience to boss it for us, doc was poor.
Is kidney just a man manager, where are the tactics, it seems its just up to the players, I know you can be over coached but from a fella who masterminded so many wins for Munster in bad conditions it was a bit shocking, ferris id say can't wait to see sob and healy back, he was on his own making yards.

Re: Ireland v USA - Live Match Thread & Post Match Discussion
Joubert was absolutely atrocious, couldnt officiate the breakdown and why the hell did he give a 22 drop out at the end when the USA carried the ball over their own line??
You wouldnt expect that from a Rabo ref nevermind a WC ref.
I thought Lynagh summed things up perfectly with regards to the half backs. As I said about a month ago we dont know who our first choice half backs are. That is something that should of been sorted before we arrived in NZ. But it hasnt been - why?
Well its because of the fiasco that is Tomas O'Leary and Kidneys ludicrous decision to play him in 3 warm ups then not take him to NZ. Its ridiculous.
PS
If its similar conditions against Australia O'Gara should start.

Right I'm off to run a half marathon in gail force conditions
Best of luck for Wales! Sorry I'll miss that one and I think Wales might just do it!

Fed up of hearing about the conditions as well. Totally unnacceptable. These guys dont live in St.Tropez. IT rains in Ireland as well
Totally agree re Joubert. Worst performance i have ever seen from him. He reffed that with stars and stripes in his eyes. He would have been totally different if that was two tier 1 nations. Again i think (or thought) he was the best ref in the world but you cannot allow sentiment into reffing. Very unprofessional

Lads i utterly admire your positivity. That was utter dung.
Can we leave our management team in the southern hemisphere. Yet another dreadful directionless attacking performance.
We were equally crap with rog on field. Sexton was poor murray was even worse. Why on earth has he not got a chance with reddan. Heaslip,Darcy very poor.
Kidney et al whatever they are doing are sucking the life out of our best crop of players in years. It is very very sad. Why are good players making so many errors.

Bowe's try came through ROG attacking the gainline. That was the best thing he did all game. I think getting a new backs coach after Gaffney could do wonders for us. We lack direction in attack.

Wow
Don't think I've ever seen such negativity from fans of a team that has just won their opening World Cup match pretty comfortably against decent opposition.
You do know that USA are a decent team right and you were never likely to put 50+ points on them right?
And you do know that you don't get a trophy for hammering one of the tier 2 nations in the firat game as well yeah?
Ireland won, comfortably and can grow into the tournament. They have work to do, but they have the players to do it.
Fill yer glasses fellas and stop being so half empty about things.
