England vs India 4th ODI Debate
First topic message reminder :
So the 4th ODI is about to be underway.
1 change for England, Steven Finn comes in for Jade Dernbach. India going in with the same xi that lost a close match last time around.
Finn for Dernbach, I think is a good move, this being Finn's home ground, he should know the conditions pretty well. And he's a real wicket taker, although he may go for a few. Dernbach has been bowling too many slower ones these days, and the Indians seem to have decoded him to some extend.
India going in with PK, Munaf and RP Singh. Can't understand the logic of it. When will Varun Aaron get a game?
England winning the toss and bowling, on a track that should offer some early help to the pacers.
Your thoughts??

England did well by sending Swann in ahead of Broad. Even if he was fully fit, I'd have Swann ahead of Broad during the end overs.

Its England's game to lose now. 29 of 24, with Swann and Bopara in, should walk it.
India can go back with an absolutely clean slate!!. Well done BCCI!!!.

England to win with at least 5 balls remaining!.
India missing the experienced hands of Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan.

I thought it would be a tight finish and it's gonna be. This partnership huge for England.

I put my hand up. I was one of Bopara's biggest critics and was even questioning the selectors. He and them have proved why they do their job and i do mine

15 of the last 2 overs. India doesn't have the firepower to save this one.

Re: England vs India 4th ODI Debate
how did England manage to lose from here, Bopara played a fine knock, but when the pressure really was on he couldn't produce. Why constantly go leg side when the field is up on the off side?

Looks like the bopara haters are back in force he is the only reason we had 1/2 a chance of winning this after the bowlers shocking last 5 overs.

They may get 2 in 2, but India just can't get over the line. Stuart Broad doesn't seem to be fit enough to bat, India were favorits, but as I said, some real divine conspiracy!.

Re: England vs India 4th ODI Debate
yep Bopara played a superb innings, BUT couldn't find the boundaries in the PP and then got out, so ultimately he'll still be criticised. It's unfortunate, but in cricket you can't leave the job half-done and Ravi has done this too often in the past and here.
Superb knock still. Right now, England would take a tie, they won't fancy Finn Anderson and an injured Broad to get these runs...

Re: England vs India 4th ODI Debate
Makes we wonder what Dhoni has done wrong as the cricket gods continue to tease and mock him match by match.
A tie on Duckworth Lewis even in this one day form the game provides new endings and entertainment.
Right time for the brickbats !
Stokes , thanks but no thanks come back when you look closer to international class
I blame Swann more for this not being a win as his time wasting was nothing more than a useless distraction, a couple of quick singles would have won it in that time.
Great innings from Bopara but still looking a little unauthoritative If he had kept the ball on the floor for that last shot again we'd be laughing.
Anyway thats a series win against the WCs so its all good.

I wouldn't say the WCs to be honest, most of their winning side is injured!Stellar Key wrote:

Indeed billy.
India isn't destined to win anything in this tour, may be the BCCI, the players, and everyone else needed this kick on the back, to address some major issues in Indian cricket.

My Team for the ODIs in India
I know I am changing it every game but this is an ODI after all.
Cook
Kieswetter
KP
Taylor
Ravi
Buttler
Patel
Bresnan
Swann
Jimmy
Finn
Assuming that Broad is still injured and Mogs has already been ruled out.
Do you guys agree?

Re: England vs India 4th ODI Debate
First of all, where did that pace from Finn come from?! It was like watching an accurate Shaun Tait!!
Secondly, great innings from Bopara, and a decent knock from Bell. Fantastic slogging from Raina and Dhoni early doors, too.
Shame it ended in a bit of a farce, I feel England were a little hard done by at the end with the decision to wait to take them off, but never mind, a very good series win against a solid ODI outfit.

Re: England vs India 4th ODI Debate
To be fair, while in one way it's a lucky tie for England as they probably wouldn't have made the runs, in another it's a lucky tie for India as had they come off one ball previously England would have been the winners. Having said that serious concerns for both sides:
India: bowling still not really good enough, they should have closed that game out once they had England five down. Kohli a place too high in the order at n°4, still hasn't really impressed me.
England: awful death bowling. should really have cruised home when they needed 19 off three overs. Lack of power hitters, six hitters.

Re: England vs India 4th ODI Debate
That was a cracking game.
Both teams did well in places and not so much in others.
India were explosive in their PP and set a great total. It should have been too much. They then had England under pressure but they could not keep it up and England managed to get within a sniff of the total heading to that last over.
England bowled well until the PP's and then did poorly, they need to sort that out. They then had a big total to chase and looked in trouble but thanks to Bopara got within a sniff of it. They sadly seem to have lost Broad now on top of Moggy, big worry heading to India.
Will India finally get one win on Friday? Will it stop raining long enough in South Wales near the sea in mid September?
Heading to the return series, it's so soon after this i fullY expect Eng to struggle. They can't be in any state for such a strangely scheduled short tour surely?

By the time the return series takes place, Tendulkar, Gambhir, Sehwag, Yuvraj, and possibly Zaheer will be fit and available. Harbhajan is already back to fitness, but I hope he doesn't come back to the team without some quality performance at the domestic level.

Re: England vs India 4th ODI Debate
I don't think it will be easy for England on the sub-continent without Pietersen and Morgan, and of course Broad. KP should be available, although there were reports that he may not be in action till Jan next year, as there is some rist injury to be attended to.
Think Bopara would retain his place, but he should move down a place to 6, as KP will be back.

Re: England vs India 4th ODI Debate
Something that I'm really noticing now is just how resilient this England team are.
A few years back you'd know they had no hope of chasing down a score 50 over par and yet here they were right on the edge of indeed doing so and thus giving themselves the draw.
A very different beast.
Indian dude on Sky says no chance of rain over there. He probably thinks Eng can't win without it but that seems a little unfair. We'll see.. i think eng will struggle in such a short tour though.
