Week 2 - Match 1 - Delhi Daredevils vs Kolkata Knight Riders - Both Teams Submitted
Welcome to the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, home of the Delhi Daredevils
Form
Delhi Daredevils - D
Kolkata Knight Riders - W
Pitch Conditions: Slow with low bounce, very little in the pitch for bowlers once the batsmen get themselves in and this should be a high scoring affair.
-----
Pleas post tactics below:
Delhi Daredevil’s Tactics.
Team
1) David Warner (U25)(O)
2) Virender Sehwag ©(I)
3) Aaron Finch (U25)(O)
4) James Taylor (U25)(O)
5) Irfan Pathan (I)
6) Naman Ojha (WK)(I)
7) Ganesh Gaikwad (I) (U25)
8) Shahbaz Nadeem (I) (U25)
9) Raymond Price (O)
10) Morne Morkel
11) Varun Aaron (I) (U25)
Selection News
After
last week’s encouraging draw with Kochi, the Daredevils have opted to
take the Feroz Shah’s slow pitch into account with this week’s
selection. Morne Morkel and Varun Aaron retain their places in the seam
department but will be largely assisted by the Daredevils extensive
spin options in the guise of Ganesh Gaikwad and Shahbaz Nadeem, two
young Indian spinners who will be familiar with the pitch and conditions
and Zimbabwe’s Ray Price, who has taken wickets in all forms of the
game in a plethora of conditions. Batting wise, Tamim Iqbal misses out
at the expense of Aaron Finch, an exceptional t20 batsman with a strike
rate of 130+.
Toss – Bat first.
Batting
If
the toss is won, the Daredevils will bat first with Warner and Sehwag
sharing opening duties. Warner will face from the off, allowing Captain
Sehwag to get a good look at Bresnan and Harris from the other end, the
openers will be tasked with seeing off the new ball whilst scoring
responsibly in the tricky conditions, Warner will rotate the strike
early doors and Sehwag will play himself in before exploding as the ball
loses its purchase. Being an exceptional player of spin, Sehwag’s
attack will force KKR’s spin attack into a more defensive mind set,
playing into Delhi’s hands. 3,4 and 5 are occupied by Finch, James
Taylor and Irfan Pathan, Finch will look to attack from the off no
matter what position the side are in and has proved in the past that he
can find the boundary with ease. Taylor is an adaptable batting asset
and can attack but can also play to the conditions and will stretch the
field whilst scoring quickly with his speed between the wickets whilst
Pathan can also keep the rate up. Naman Ojha and Ganesh Gaikwad at 6 and
7 are also canny operators who have strike rates exceeding 100 and
both average in the mid-twenties, and are also familiar with
surroundings. Should all go to plan, I think a score of 180+ is easily
gettable and pressurise the Knight Riders reply.
Bowling
Kolkata
will have to attack from the off and this may play in to Delhi’s hands
as Morkel and Aaron share the new ball. Morkel’s varying array of
bouncers, Yorkers and nagging accuracy with the hard ball will stifle
KKR from the off, whilst Aaron’s sheer pace will contribute to taking
early wickets before the pitch dictates proceedings once more by which
time the bowling changes will have happened, Pathan coming on with his
knack of getting wickets on Indian surfaces partnered with Ray Price who
will use the slow conditions to stifle the KKR middle order and
restrict the boundary hitting. Price will bowl two overs, whilst Pathan
will bowl through his spell. Gaikwad and Nadeem will then share 3 overs
a piece, utilising the slower pitch giving way for Morkel and Price to
bowl the last 4 between them, seeing Delhi through to a massive win
against one of the more fancied teams.
Over Allocation.
Morkel – 4
Aaron – 2
Pathan – 4
Price – 4
Nadeem – 3
Gaikwad - 3
KKR Tactics
Chris Gayle
Shikhar Dhawn
Gautam Gambhir
Manoj Tiwary
Eoin Morgan(wk)
Yusuf Pathan
Shakib Al Hasan
Bipul Sharma
Tim Bresnan
Ryan Harris
Pragyan Ojha
Toss:Bat First
This is the team which I think is best suited to these conditions.
Since
its a flat pitch,Jacques Kalllis has been left out as I dont think we
need an anchor. He has been replaced by a very capable Indian batsman
Shikhar Dhawan who has got a very good domestic record. He is not a big
hitter but he can score quickly. He will look to bat through while Gayle
will just tee off from the other end and should score plenty of runs
given that he is equally efficient against pace and spin.As always the
rest of the batting order will be floated depending on the situation. In
case of an early wicket,I have the ever reliable Gambhir to bat thorugh
and then hit at the death whereas in case of a good start the likes of
Morgan and Pathan can come in and take the attack apart.Delhi dont have a
quality spinner(from what I remember) and the pitch wont suit their
seamers.KKR on the other hand are going in with only two seamers in
Bresnan and Harris and both are good even on flat pitches as they showed
in the WC and the SL Test Series respectively. My side is also filled
with some high quality slow bowling options.I have got 2 world class
left arm spinners in this form of the game Ojha and Shakib plus I have
got Bipul Sharma who has a very good record. And then a couple of part
timers who bowl off spin i.e.Gayle and Pathan and they are among the
better part timers in the world.
Delhi have got a very good
batting line up and I am looking up to Bres and Harris to get rid of
Sehwag early.Bres did dismiss him early in the WC when he came onto
bowl.I also have Harris at the other end who has proven with his
performance in the SL Test series that he is one of the best seamers in
the world on flat pitches. If we can get rid of Sehwag early it shouldnt
be too much of a problem coz the likes of Warner,Iqbal and Taylor like
the ball to come onto the bat and they wont get that on this slow and
low wicket against a spin heavy attack in the middle overs.
I will
bowl Bres and Harris with the new ball for two overs each at the
beginning and 2 overs each in the slog overs.Ojha and Shakib will then
come onto bowl with Ojha bowling out and Shakib and Bipul Sharma bowling
two overs each with Ojha and then in tandem with each other before
Harris and Bres come back in the last 4 overs.
Obviously I have got Gayle and Pathan (two of the better part timers in the world) to turn to in case something goes wrong.

i think you should have gone with another quick shanky, bearing in mind the amount of people in your side who can bowl spin..

I dont have an Indian quick suited to bowling on a slow pitch.Spin should do the trick.Bres as seamer should be enough on a slow track.

Risky playing 1 seamer. Sehwag is lethal if he gets set against spinners. Still a very, very strong KKR team.

On popular advice i have decided to bring in Ryan Harris for Bishoo.Harris has quite clearly shown in the SL series that he is an exceptional bowler even on slow tracks. So with him and Bres together i think i have enough to prevent sehwag.

To clear this up:
One change is allowed providing the other team hasn't submitted their tactics. As soon as both teams submit that's that.

Shanky aaron has rapid pace, and even on flat pitches, real rapid bowlers tough to face, hence why australia went for rapid bowlers in the world cup, and to a certain degree, it worked, pathan is useless against the short ball, so aaron can tuck him up, as is gambhir.

The guy who scored 3 fifties in 4 innings on some of the bounciest pitches in the world in SA against Steyn and Morkel is useless against an uncapped Indian on a flat pitch?
Gambhir has scored plenty of runs in SA and NZ.He surely can play Aaron on a flat pitch.
Agree with Pathan. But he will be batting in the middle order. And the pitch is very slow.
But I cant see how you can say such a thing about Gambhir.

If Aaron was that good he'd be in India's side ahead of Vinay Kumar

My point is Gambhir has scored runs against Steyn and Morkel on bouncy pitches. So he can surely score runs against Varun Aaron on a slow pitch.Or do you think Aaron is better than Steyn and Morkel?Aaron hasnt even played a single match for India yet.So you are making all these assumptions just on the basis of a few rumours you have heard.cricketfan90 wrote:why are u bringing up morkel i never brought up morkel.
Btw I forgot that even Pathan has scored a century in SA at Centurion? So he too isnt as bad against short pitched bowling as you are making him out to be.
