Saddest Songs Ever - Page 2 Empty Saddest Songs Ever

Post by dyrewolfe Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:15 am

First topic message reminder :

Being about the only sort of song that hasn't been covered yet, I thought I'd give it a bash. What songs always leave you with a lump in your throat, or even a tear in your eye? Some of mine include:

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

Queen - The Show Must Go On

Duran Duran - Ordinary World

Tears For Fears - Mad World

George Michael - Praying For Time

Pearl Jam - Black

Metallica - The Unforgiven

REM - Losing My Religion

Linkin Park - In The End

Alice In Chains - Down In A Hole

Alice In Chains - Nutshell

If you only click on one of these, make it Nutshell...

Good choice Y I. Perfect "teen angst" song.

The Who - Behind Blue Eyes
Thought I'd better pick this instead of the Limp Bizkit version.

I think the Stereophonics version its sadder. I've got it from the Radio 1 Live Lounge and its quality.

Few that come to my mind are:
The Wire - Paul Weller
Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Good Riddance - Greenday (Played at me mates funeral)

My father has always maintained that this is the song he wants played at his funeral, so it natural depresses the hell out of me.

I thnk you've interpreted 'saddest' differently from everyone else Wink

Otherwise some great nominations - the video to Hurt is also probably the most moving ever made. The juxtaposition between the images of the 'Man in Black' and the frail old man and the woman he loved through his life, allied to those words and the incessant drive of the tune are absolutely classic.

My father died nearly 3 years ago (at only 57 years old, and just months after taking early retirement), and I've found the song 'Dance with my Father' very difficult to listen to since - I know it's a bit cheesy at times, but some of the lyrics get a bit close to the bone.

I completely understand dummy_half, my father died 11 years ago, also at the age of 57. I still struggle to listen to a Sam Brown song, sums up the sub-conscious reaction, even after all this time

Oddly, I never thought of Creep as a sad song...more the usual teen angst type of track. Perhaps Radiohead did "Emo" before anyone had coined the term?

Here's one that always gets me. Perhaps the best song Johnny Cash never recorded. Think the Man In Black could've done a great cover version.
