Young p;ayer of the year
Why is Liam Rushe (Dublin) being touted in the media as a near certainty as young player of the year? Why not Bonnar Maher (Tipp) or Conor McGrath (Clare), or Pauric whatsit from Waterford? Is is the Dublin media pushing for one of their own?

Maybe because Rushe had a far superior year to Maher(who is overrated) and McGrath (not enough game time). Mahony maybe, but Rushe is out on his own, a fantastic hurler......................
Nice conspiracy theory!!

Maher overrated, come on. McGrath and Mahoney both under 21 also, so they have plenty of game time. I think Rushe had one great game this season and has been touted ever since. Plus he had a poor under 21 final last Sat.

I don't think he is overated as I never rated him in the first place only jokin he's a good hurler at the moment and should go on to be a great hurler, I just don't think he had a great year and I might be biased but I can't see anyone else but Rushe winning it and if he does'nt win it then imo it would have to go to either Declan Hannon(Limerick) or Padraig Mahony(Waterford)

Re: Young p;ayer of the year
Sorry Lads.
I think he is overrated because he doesn't have scoring power and stickwork to be considered a class forward. He does donkey work which is of course necessary and is as brave as anything but when people say he's the most important player in the Tipp forward line, it's just not the case....................
As regards U 21 performances, not sure they should be taken into consideration much when you are picking a young player of the year. If they want to pick a seperate award for performances in the u-21 ch'ship, then so be it...............................

Pfft Liam Rushe this, Padraig Mahony that.. I think it will be a close contest between Tony Browne, Christy Ring and Fermanagh's own Ryan Bogue!
In football though it will probably be Cillian O'Connor, Paddy McBrearty or maybe Fermanagh's own Sean Quigley could join the race late.

If they don't it will be proof that there is an anti-Ulster bias in the southern media. (Before ye all get the impression I'm a Fermanagh fan don't, I'm a Tyrone fan undercover who likes to poke fun at Fermanagh's woes. Although I do play underage hurling for in a Fermanagh jersey! )
